you know what I notice is missing from that list there? Greek Pizza places. I wonder why? I think we need to go back through this thread and scrub all references to Greek pizza. And if I had admin rights (and you all are glad I dont. I would ban everyone but Chief) I would also scrub their accounts from ever being eligible to post in any Yard Pizza discussions heretofore.

Wrong. Willington Pizza is listed.

I don't always order Greek pizza but when I do I top it with turkey and ketchup. I am the most disgusting man in the world. Stay hungry my friends

If only there were Chicago-style Greek pizza. You could use ketchup and american cheese.
With roast turkey. Don't forget the roast turkey...green peppers and Cheez Whiz.

This is now open and all the pizzas look incredible. Will definitely be stopping in next time in Storrs

Lina Lucarelli has passed. She was cofounder of Derby's Roseland Pizza, a popular nominee in this thread.

She was 92. Her husband died in 1980.

Rest in Peace Lina!

When I was a kid there was a place in East Hartford J&G's Greek I think. My family being Italian and owning restaurants in/around Hartford always called him a Greek. Man it was tasty it's was also so long ago. That's a topic for another thread - deceased pizza joints/restaurants

Lina was my grandmother and she will be missed very much. My family will continue to strive to keep her legacy alive and keep Roseland Apizza going for her!

Sorry to hear of your loss. May your grams RIP.

I will have to get to Roseland and try her legacy very soon. Take care

Im sorry for your loss. Im at Roseland probably once a week and its easily the best pizza around. Your family does an excellent job.

Every 5 days, another franchise location is opened by the California-based company. For anyone familiar with high quality pizza who has eaten a Blaze pizza, what's the quality level? Good enough to satisfy typical students? Actually, pretty high quality 'za? Somewhere smack-on average?

I brought my nephew to Jordan's furniture in New haven to do the rope course thing they have in there and he wanted pizza so we got the blaze pizza in Jordan's. He ate half and I took 2 bites and threw it away and went to Modern for some real pie.

I've had worse pizza but I live in New Haven area so there are much better options around. Give it a 5.5 out 10 better than Dominos and those types of places.

So, 1 polite vote for blah pizza. Anyone else?

like everything else in life- its about expectations. Haven't had it yet but if you're going into it with the idea that it will be comparable to Pepes or Sallys then you're probably going to be disappointed. If you are comparing it to the other options in Storrs i.e. Husky Pizza, Dominos, etc then it is definitely a step above from the reviews I've heard. Heading to campus in 2 weeks and hoping to try it for myself while there (although a BBQ onion ring pizza from Ted's might happen instead)

Nah, not New Haven-specific, just good quality pizza. That could be Italy, elsewhere in Europe, NY, Philly, SF, a few other places in CT, Joisey, even Chicago at the best deep dish joints, and pockets of quality elsewhere. Given the dearth of quality 'za in and around Storrs, Blaze could be good enough. Despite its' name and S. California base, we all know anything can satisfy some students and some others - especially when trashed, stoned, penniless, etc.

There's a super classy Pizza Hut off the Berlin Turnpike I highly recommend. Really, really terrific and great.

When I saw this bumped, I was going to post something like, "What moron reopened this thread during March Madness," and then... well, kudos on the mojo boost.

Shut up and eat the mojo sandwich commie!

I finally got the wife and kids to Pepe's on Monday. They said they have been ruined now and will never be able to enjoy pizza again. It was a great day and even I had forgotten how good it was. After Pizza we visited and went on a tour of Yale. I think it will be an option for the younger one. It didn't feel as bad, being in New Haven, as the impression I had been given by talking to people from the area. I thought it had gotten much worse than it was when I was in high school. The surrounding area is no Harvard Square but it isn't Detroit either.

The ghettos in CT's biggest cities are being slowly gentrified. Exhibit A and B: Stamford and Norwalk. Bridgeport is next in line.

Rangers need to move the Wolf*Pack to Bridgeport and take up the Sound Tigers name. And then we'll have even more good pizza.

New Haven was a mess for a good part of the late 80's through the early 00's. There was a "rumor" in college that Chelsea Clinton wanted to go to Yale; but, the Secret Service was worried that they would be out-gunner and pushed the Clintons to send her to Stanford instead. By the early 00's, Yale and New Haven finally figured out that their success was tied together and Yale began to invest in the city. While parts are still rough, like Fair Haven and Dixwell Avenue, downtown and the along Orange St are really nice now. Spent a weekend in New Have a year or two back for a wedding and was impressed and I think it will only get better as Stamford and Norwalk continue to get more expensive and as I don't think people are sold on downtown Bridgeport yet. Off the coast I think UConn moving into downtown Hartford will really help that city. Middletown will be OK with Wesleyan. Not so optimistic about Meriden and Waterbury.

This just opened in Charlotte and it is absolutely awesome. Pieology is coming here too and I am looking forward to trying that one as well
