SoS is starting to become impossible to find. I use to have a lot of luck at a packy I visit frequently but havent been able to score it in close to a month. After talking to the guy, he use to give me heads up when they were getting shipment, he told me the distributor and brewery are no longer telling places when they will be getting deliveries because there are too many truck chasers. They have even changed their delivery patterns to prevent the truck chasers. He also so once he gets it in one person finds out and they sell out in about hour or 2.

Was also told that Sea Hag will start to become very difficult to get. NEBCO is brewing it at full capacity right now so the package stores are getting the max amount they possible can but the popularity is starting to take off. My guy said dont be surprised if in a couple months its difficult to find Sea Hag.
Been hearing that about Sea Hag for a while from people connected to the industry in various ways. I think that the places I frequent for beer bars and package stores should still be in good shape, but we'll see. Not quite sure what's up with NEBCO, but I think there is a little more to it than simply increased popularity. That said, one of the hardest things to do in almost any business imo is to stay medium-sized in the face of increasing demand.

Speaking of increasing demand, I heard that FBD is out again, but have yet to taste the new batch. I think NEBCO is still closed for growler refills because of some work on their tasting room, but I'm not on FB so don't know for sure. One thing I do know is that they make it remarkably difficult to allow you to purchase their product, and in the long run I'm not sure if that's a good business model in an increasingly competitive and saturated market.

Funny you say that about SoS, as just yesterday I thought I had the opposite experience. My local packy guy had a fresh four-pack waiting for me, and he had a Captain's Daughter for me, too, so I was beginning to think that the market was loosening up. Then he explained that SoS had just come in and that it had been a couple weeks since he had any, and that he had turned away several non-regular customers in the meantime who simply walked in the door and asked for it, and then walked out. So I guess it's not getting any easier after all; I just lucked out.

I see that Stony Creek is out in cans now, and I'm hearing increasing buzz about the brewery. Does anyone know if the beer is getting any better? I tried the Cranky IPA a few months ago and thought it was meh--quaffable but nothing special. Sounds like it's a nice place to visit though.

In Montreal right now, fresh local Unibroue beers. They ain't serving 9% Fin du Monde in 12 oz. glasses up here. Try 24 oz. Maudite is good too.

Is there any Kraft beer there? ;)

I was at Maximum Beverage in West Hartford Friday. I asked the manager if he ever gets SOS. He said yes, they just got 5 cases last Tuesday, they announced it's arrival via Snapchat. It was sold out within 20 minutes.

By the way, you can keep track of where it's available on this great site. It's currently on tap at Artisanal Burger in Manchester.

Craft beer cellar in West Hartford had SoS on Friday they were allowing people to buy cases at a time saw one guy loading 5 cases into his trunk. Joes in East Windsor and Harry's in Vernon get shipments towards the beginning of each month even though this month they were a little later then normal. But those places limit it to 2 cans per person

Firefly Hollow in Bristol tapped a brand new IPA last weekend. Amazing.

Up Quark IPA
Up Quark IPAThis resiny American IPA blends both new age American Hops with experimental German varieties. Look for up front flavors of soft stone fruits, mango, tangerine, and citrus. The beer finishes dry with lasting herbal flavors reminiscent of gunpowder green tea, pine resin, and black pepper spice. By blending hop varieties from two very distinct growing regions, we’re able to achieve loads of complexity and subtle flavors.
ABV: 6.0%
OG: 13.5 Plato
Grist: Bohemian Pilsner, German Vienna, Flaked Maize
Kettle Hops: Mandarina Bavaria, Hallertau Blanc, Citra, Hull Melon
Dry Hops: Citra, Mandarina Bavaria, Hallertau Blanc, Mosaic, Hull Melon

I was at a place with a big draft selection and asked if they had anything new that wasn't on the menu. He said they just tapped SoS. I ordered one and it was very good. But when I settled the tab I saw it was $9. for a 10oz. glass. No beer is that good. SOS certainly wasn't.

I agree. That's gouging. I think I posted upthread about guy in a New Haven package store a few months ago who was going to charge me $21 for a four-pack of the 16 oz. cans and I told him to keep them. It's good, but that's ridiculous. The 10 oz. glass is the most offensive part of your situation imo, but $9 is high even for a pint.

Dove - HAve you been to Stony Creek? Their new location on the Branford River is amazng. Huge deck...double doors that open to the deck....most restaurants would die for a location like this.....and the beer is just as good as the view. :)

Haven't been there yet but website makes it look great.

I had no issues finding 2 4-packs of SOS this week. You just need a heads up on general delivery dates. There had been a 3-4 weeks between deliveries this round. Beeradvocate is a great resource.

Also made a run up to Treehouse Saturday morning with the wife and was in and out with a case of Julius in seconds. Great stuff.

Awesome stuff - both of them. 24oz of either one will let you know you had it, that's for sure!! :)

Not sure if these were mentioned in the thread but Julius and Haze from treehouse brewey are some amazing IPA'S

I've always heard that it's the one beer to have when you're having more than one.

It is really the beer for after you have had six.

I think I need a course in beer.

Tried grapefruit sculpin this weekend - dangerous dangerous stuff. Not a huge fan of the regular one (not that it's not good, just overhyped IMHO), so this was a nice surprise...

My family was able to find me a fresh 4 pack of Captain's Daughter. It was delicious! Very well done.

Nice. They (Grey Sail) just came out with a new IPA, Pour Judgment, which I tried for the first time yesterday when a friend brought it back from Rhode Island. It is also very good.

He also brought me a bottle of Maine Beer Co.'s Beer II, a heavily-hopped session ale that was really excellent.

Funny, I had it on tap at Prime 16 last week, but it was right on the heels of the last two pints of Fuzzy Baby Ducks, so I was less impressed by the Grapefruit Sculpin than I probably would have been otherwise. Not really a fair time to try it. I still like the Habanero Sculpin best, but I know that a lot of people are not crazy about that one.

NEBCO is re-opening their tap room on Wednesday. Apparently there are rumors they'll have FBD, but they came right out and said it won't be on tap. They'll have Gandhi Bot and some others though. Thinking about going down there sometime soon; I still haven't visited them.

Best craft beer in the state, don't just name the hop monsters, please name some tasty stouts and porter's too.

I'm lovin' Dragon's Milk, a bourbon barrel stout, New Holland Brewing. "Roasty malt character intermingled with rich vanilla tones all dancing in an oak bath." Packs a punch @ 11% :D

There is a place in Stowe called Piecasso that has good NY Style pizza.
I highly recommend a weekend of Vermont brewery hopping in November. The cool air makes the heavier beers and comfort foods taste their best and nothing is crowded until the ski areas open.

Agree and I deeply miss the Shed...burgers marinated in famous Shed Brew was the best after a hard day, kickin' it, on the front four.

Was at the Ski Sundown Brewfest in New Hartford Saturday. Always well run and a great time…28 breweries almost all from CT….
Tried some new brews I would recommend:

the Newcomer was Kent Falls Brewing:
Juicemaker: waymaker aged on mangos. I’m an IPA guy and loved this
Field Beer – Saison – farmhouse ale

Relic Brewing – Kate Ryn Belgian Wit (this one was new to me)

Captain Lawrence (Elmsford, NY) – IPA – Yum. Not sure of the name.

Broad Brook – Pink Dragon Wit. Once you get past the name it’s fine.

Have to give credit to Stony Creek for their moto: “Aggressively Laid-Back Beer”.
Great food from Avon Prime meats - especially their Begian Ale flavored Chicken Lolllipops.

Loved one of the quotes in the local paper – “The difference between wine and a beer fests is that the rain doesn’t keep people away from beer fests”.

Our little group even made the local paper…it must have been our fashionable pretzel necklaces.

I saw that gansett brought back these classic cans this summer.

According to my son, Captain Lawrence is only making their regular IPA and Effortless IPA - Effortless is very light in alcohol.
They did make a Triple Hop IPA but haven't in a while
