Sorry that you're BC 2.0 now. Sorry that you're recruiting is subpar now (mostly due to us). Sorry that you're not featured in any of ESPN's, ESPN 2's, or ESPN U's top rated games in the NYC metro area despite being 'New York's College Team'.

I did read your post, and you clearly imply that had the 2003 ACC expansion occurred in 2011 or 2012 (your self-proclaimed Availability window), then RU would have been an ACC target. This begs the question, why were you not selected in 2003? Bc you were not Available then? Surely it couldn't be bc you were less desirable than BC, given what you've said about them on this Board.
But sparsing words doesn't matter, something we can probably agree on. Cuse and RU have absolutely nothing to do with each other anymore. I guess i'd be happy if you knocked off a decent B1G team one year in an upset, creating more room in the Contract Bowls for ACC teams. I don't even know anyone who went to Rutgers, and i'm NYC through and through. Mich, Penn St, UConn, ND, UVA, UNC, Duke...yep know plenty of those alums. You've done NOTHING, like EVER, in mens college sports. Your crowning achievement is a shared Big East football title, and some minor bowl wins over nobody. Be happy thanking your lucky stars that a perfect combination of AAU, Penn St unhappiness, and geography is giving you the opportunity to get paid well to have your face kicked in on the fields and courts for the next 25+ years. I understand why we catch grief for not adding UConn, which was a big mistake by the ACC, IMHO. I do not see bypassing RU as a mistake, though.

I'm with you here. I think that the ACC can benefit from a UConn addition. UConn fits academically. The football can be competitive in the ACC, and the basketball would be really competitive. UConn competes in 22 of the 25 ACC sports missing only Men's Lacrosse, Wrestling, and Women's Golf. They are a good fit. I've suggested this to our hosts hear on this board. Some prefer the Big Ten, but the ACC is a good fit.

Rutgers has no relevant history of athletic success that I can remember. I don't know how many Big East Men's basketball championships or even runners up they have on the resume if any. I don't think I can remember a Rutgers Men's basketball team in the NCAA tournament. I think they had one 40 years ago. They could fit the profile of an ACC school in size and academic standards, but I don't see them exciting anyone.

If the ACC needs that New Jersey market, we have Notre Dame and Syracuse in NY and can add Temple for South Jersey. Temple Men's basketball knocked NC State out of the tournament last season, so I know they can play basketball. Their football is a bit underwhelming, but Lincoln Financial Field is nice.

It was always UConn, Louisville, or, Cincinnati. Swofford could not sell RU to the ACC's FB-first schools. Pure and simple.

If the ACC voted on Rutgers, I would expect that the same voting block that stopped UConn would have done the same to Rutgers. Syracuse in particular does not want to share NYC with anyone, especially Rutgers, even if Rutgers is 200 miles closer to Times Square than Syracuse. The ACC football block may have been a tad bit more receptive as they could ‘sell’ playing at Rutgers every few years to NJ recruits.
As for UNC, they are happy with their fiefdom in the ACC as clearly the conference lives or dies with them. UNC would lose that clout in the B1G or any other conference. It will be interesting 20 years if the ACC implodes once the GoR’s expire and somehow the XII holds on as the survivor if demographics in NC at that time still favor the SEC or will enough Yankees invade TRP & Charlotte to lean UNC to the B1G.

As long as those two facts hold true, the ACC stick together.

I would also add that the ACC will exist as long as ND can use it as a ‘safe haven’ from the B1G.

The ACC was not looking at Rutgers. The ACC was looking at Penn State, but the ACC wasn't ready to move on anything due to the Notre Dame situation. That's the threat that the Big Ten felt, and one of the reasons the Big Ten acted on Maryland and Rutgers. I have never heard from anyone about the ACC looking at Rutgers other than ESPN speculation back when Syracuse and Pitt were added.

If you can find that quote somewhere I would appreciate it. I have stated here numerous times that Gene D. was not liked by the B.C. fan base, and that is being kind. He had very little support from alums and fans who found him to be turning a deaf ear to the masses. Aloof, non responsive, and arrogant are words that come to my mind that were spoken on many BC blogs and sites. Gaining A.C.C. membership was his most important contribution to BC.

That being said, I am hoping for a thaw at some point soon so BC and U Conn can resume playing football. Great for New England and the entire region. At least we will meet in bb this year, I think in soccer and perhaps field hockey as well, not sure have not looked at schedules. Hockey East membership for U Conn is a great way to play BC on a regular basis every year. Thats a good start, who knows perhaps bb will follow suit and ink a series contract. In my opinion shame on the Presidents and Politicians, Athletics Directors and Coaches who ended up deciding for the fans and alums that disconnecting the two schools athletically was in our best interest. They should take steps immediately to restore relations and put this cold war to bed once and for all.

I'm talking about what would've happened if Rutgers was available post Maryland defection, not before. Of course they wouldn't talk about Rutgers - the Big Ten already invited them by then.

Before the Maryland defection the discussion was about how ACC will expand to 14 and what schools will make that up. I don't blame ACC for taking Pitt and Syracuse before Rutgers in that situation (although I think UConn would've been the better add than Syracuse)

I agree that the ACC is a better fit for UConn athletically. UConn would be much more competitive in football in the ACC then the B1G. We have many more natural rivals in the ACC. We have plenty of CT transplants throughout the entire footprint that would attend games (any time we play bball in Florida it's UConn south). All in one time zone which is good too for TV. But, I've given up on the ACC -- they have passed on us too many times and have no reason to add at this time, not till ND becomes a full member which won't happen, not at least for another 15 years.

The B1G, however, offers a bigger pay day and should be a much more stable conference. There is likely a better chance for us to go B1G at this point if they find the right partner that can get out of their conference (Mizzou is the only option available in my opinion).

My preference is selfishly ACC because I plan to move south in a year or two and would have easier access to get to games. At the end of the day, I would obviously take either conference if they offered and be very happy.

Just about anybody who's not from New Jersey will call it the Jersey Shore. People from the Philly area who's visits tend to be day trips or weeks in the summer tend to call it the Jersey Shore. If they own a house or rent for the summer they tend to call it just the shore. It's like the cheesesteak. If you're not from Philly, its the "Philly cheesesteak." If you're from Greater Philadelphia, it's just a cheesesteak.

Speaking of Maryland.....Would like to pass along that I found a very interesting article in today's Washington Post sports section on the dire economic situation that they face at this time. They will make money at some point but most likely not until 2021 at the earliest. Some low points include......

1. 21 million dollar deficit and borrowing another 20million for this year.
2. 85 million owed in construction debt.
3. 15 million dollar membership payment to Maryland being withheld by A.C.C. until the lawsuit comes to a conclusion.( How much $$ will that be)

Some interesting notes on travel burden... and the cost to pay/care for each athlete that the big demands each member school must adhere to, and so on.

THIS IS A MUST READ. In the end Maryland will make money but at what cost? Remember the days when the game on the field was most important?...... and now its the $$game being played behind closed doors that trumps all. College Football is the most exciting, colorful, action packed sport that exists... in my opinion. What a sad state of affairs.
