B12 and ACC on the clock!

Syracuse was 10-3 in 2018. But otherwise both BC and the Orange have had a generally rough go lately. Pitt has been solid though.

Unrelated to anything, we paid my eldest daughter's UConn enrollment deposit yesterday and now have a Husky in the family. She had some solid options too - UC San Diego, the University of British Columbia, the University of Toronto, and University of Rochester to name a few. But she opted to go with the hometown school.

Yep..missed 2018...an abberation...Cuse has been really bad..since 2013...that 2018 season was sandwiched by a 4-8 and 5-7 season.

Here is a new theory on realignment found on this podcast, with a way to get FSU, Clemson, Miami and UNC out of the ACC. They leave for SEC or B10.

Then, four other ACC members leave for B12, maybe Louisville, NC State, Virginia Tech, and Pitt. The ones heading to the B10 and SEC pay the difference between what the four in the B12 will earn from B12 vs. what the ACC would have paid.

Then, these eight departing members of the ACC dissolve the ACC as we know it. Remaining members could merge with the PAC12 to have a conference of P5 schools from coast to coast with strong academics and sports teams. It could happen sooner than many people think.

And I think UConn may have a place in the PAC12-ACC combined new conference or the B12.

The UMiami to the B1G is funny. The B1G is a conference is a top research conference. That would be like having a diploma mill school in the Ivy League.

UConn to the Pac would be nice Oregon, Stanford, Washington and California every year would be interesting. I doubt it would happen..

Miami is not a diploma mill school.

Miami is not a diploma mill school.
Also, Miami has four Nobel prize winners on its faculty. The last time I checked UConn has none. Rumor has it that Miami is trying to get into the SEC not the B10.

And UConn in the PAC would suck!
Yes it would. Although, it would be doable for football. I agree that it will never happen, and it never should.

Miami is a decent academic school....USNWR #55 in National Universities...(UConn #69)....true, not heavy on research, but a decent academic ranking.

Yeah. I despise Hurricane athletic teams., but the University of Miami is a good school.

They rank #49 in the Times Higher Education Ranking, #48 in QS ranking. Their worst ranking is Shanghai, which puts them in the 63-89 bracket with Florida State and UConn.

They currently rank #75 in research expenditures. FSU sits at 83. UConn is 88.

Brett McMurphy tells 365 Sports that Oregon and Washington have been "cleared" and "vetted" by the Big Ten. The Pac 12's quarterly board meeting is tomorrow...should we expect any news? Trouble in the ACC - Florida State continues to rock the boat.

I would think the B1G10 will wait before extending any more offers. They have a new Commissioner and they haven't brought UCLA and USC into the fold....which could take a number of months.
It's not like Oregon and Washington are going anywhere - The B1G10 controls the timetable

Kind of how I feel. Right now this feels like the sweet spot if football can stabilize and remain respectable despite independence. Obviously there's the financial ramification, but I say stand pat and see how things progress over the next 5-10 years. Have a feeling things are going to look a lot different in a decade from now.
Wait and see strategy killed us once. Let’s not repeat the stupidity. Everyone knows where things are headed and either you are on the power train or not. B12 or B1G any day of the week.

Football showing its potential this past fall and men’s hoop winning the natty in the spring couldn’t have come at a better time.
I couldn’t agree more but it does make me nervous for this football season. If we have a sub-5 win season it’s not a good look for realignment offers.

It’s fair to think that we will be just as good or better. A win against NC St opening night sure would help get things moving.
A sell out crowd for the game wouldn't hurt either.

I don’t want to put negative energy out there necessarily, but I do believe that’s a bit of a pipe dream. My girlfriend went to Clemson so I actually saw them go play down in Death Valley last year and they lost (and their fans were trashy) but they were a solid team that put up a good fight against a great team in one of the hardest environments in college football. I believe they were ranked at the time as well. We beat BC by six points at home and that was arguably our best win. I just don’t see us beating NC State this year. I think Duke is a much more realistic win.

On the other hand we lost our starting quarterback in the first quarter of the first game of the season and played the entire year with a true freshman at quarterback. Our two leading running backs went down and we played the bulk of the year with a true freshman getting the bulk of the carries. Are receiving core was similarly depleted. Despite all of that we went to a bowl game. NC State would be a challenging win for the program which is still climbing it's way out of a decade long barrel of suck, but last year's performance was heartening news by any reasonable standard.

I’m not predicting a win, just saying it’s possible and would be an awesome start. It would look especially good with realignment swirling.

Totally hear that. I agree. I’m also really looking forward to the Duke and JMU games.

If the Big 12 is truly serious about establishing an eastern presence there is one move they can make that will do that overnight.
but what happens to our improving football team?

Do you think Mora can recruit impact makers better/faster to a team in the Big12 or one wandering the desert as an Independent?
i watched rutgers experience in B10. Uconn could be heading for the same thing in FB. Maybe it would be better to stay in the acc for a while if that option exists for football.

There was a time not too long ago when UConn beat the snot out of Baylor and the best QB in the nation… have some faith. With a B12 offer we instantly become the Power 5 Beast of the East while BC, Syracuse and Pitt play in a dying ACC. Rutgers is Rutgers. They are just beyond hope wherever they are.

This is how you have to view this opportunity if it comes to fruition.
