B12 and ACC on the clock!

I sense the second-tier in the ACC are worried the conference will radically change or fall apart while the B12 is likely a better landing place for them given the strength of their football program.
But, without their consent it doesn't fall apart - until 2036 or a few years earlier when the ACC FB brands get within range of being able to pay off the exit fee and remaining GOR.

The GOR pretty much assures the second-tier that the conference won't fall apart for at least a decade.

Eh, I think these schools won’t try to prognosticate what the climate will be in 13 years. So much will change and they can’t even start to predict what will happen. Why change now for the uncertainty of 13 years down the road.

So the SEC or Big Ten is going to pay the difference to those schools plus the exit fees for the ACC? Plus open themselves up to litigation from the ACC left-behinds... The ACC brands they can add don't add enough money to pay all the fees and the amount it would take a year to make the departing brands whole (and of course there's any potential legal risk they'd have to factor into their cost)

Exactly. The SEC wouldn't even pay the difference for Texas and Oklahoma for 3 years why would they or the B1G pay the difference for 10 or 15 years?

Time will tell!

The problem is that you won't be left with this group. If these teams are the ACC Leftovers, there's a high probability that The Big 12 would grab Pitt, Duke, VT, and Louisville to build out their eastern flank. If GT or Miami are available swap out Duke. AD Dave should be spending a large portion of his daily time on networking with Big 12 athletic directors, media figures, and other school officials to try to gain entry into the conference before ACC Armageddon in 2035. You need to be in the group doing the picking not the one hoping to get picked.

Totally agree. You would imagine that Cincinnati and West Virginia in particular would push for Louisville, Pitt and Virginia Tech.

"Cuse and BC have had no 8 win seasons in the last ten"

Syracuse was 10-3 in 2018. But otherwise both BC and the Orange have had a generally rough go lately. Pitt has been solid though.

Unrelated to anything, we paid my eldest daughter's UConn enrollment deposit yesterday and now have a Husky in the family. She had some solid options too - UC San Diego, the University of British Columbia, the University of Toronto and the University of Rochester to name a few. But she opted to go with the hometown school.

Yep..missed 2018...an abberation...Cuse has been really bad..since 2013...that 2018 season was sandwiched by a 4-8 and 5-7 season.

Here is a new theory on realignment found on this podcast, with a way to get FSU, Clemson, Miami and UNC out of the ACC. They leave for SEC or B10.

Then, four other ACC members leave for B12, maybe Louisville, NC State, Virginia Tech, and Pitt. The ones heading to the B10 and SEC pay the difference between what the four in the B12 will earn from B12 vs. what the ACC would have paid.

Then, these eight departing members of the ACC dissolve the ACC as we know it. Remaining members could merge with the PAC12 to have a conference of P5 schools from coast to coast with strong academics and sports teams. It could happen sooner than many people think.

And I think UConn may have a place in the PAC12-ACC combined new conference or the B12.

The UMiami to the B1G is funny. The B1G is a conference is a top research conference. That would be like having a diploma mill school in the Ivy League.

UConn to the Pac would be nice Oregon, Stanford, Washington and California every year would be interesting. I doubt it would happen..

Miami is not a diploma mill school.

Miami is not a diploma mill school.
Also, Miami has four Nobel prize winners on its faculty. The last time I checked UConn has none. Rumor has it that Miami is trying to get into the SEC not the B10.

And UConn in the PAC would suck!
Yes it would. Although, it would be doable for football. I agree that it will never happen, and it never should.

Miami is a decent academic school....USNWR #55 in National Universities...(UConn #69)....true, not heavy on research, but a decent academic ranking.

Yeah. I despise Hurricane athletic teams., but the University of Miami is a good school.

They rank #49 in the Times Higher Education Ranking, #48 in QS ranking. Their worst ranking is Shanghai, which puts them in the 63-89 bracket with Florida State and UConn.

They currently rank #75 in research expenditures. FSU sits at 83. UConn is 88.

Brett McMurphy tells 365 Sports that Oregon and Washington have been "cleared" and "vetted" by the Big Ten. The Pac 12's quarterly board meeting is tomorrow...should we expect any news? Trouble in the ACC - Florida State continues to rock the boat.

I would think the B1G10 will wait before extending any more offers. They have a new Commissioner and they haven't brought UCLA and USC into the fold....which could take a number of months.
It's not like Oregon and Washington are going anywhere - The B1G10 controls the timetable

Kind of how I feel. Right now this feels like the sweet spot if football can stabilize and remain respectable despite independence. Obviously there's the financial ramification, but I say stand pat and see how things progress over the next 5-10 years. Have a feeling things are going to look a lot different in a decade from now.
Wait and see strategy killed us once. Let’s not repeat the stupidity. Everyone knows where things are headed and either you are on the power train or not. B12 or B1G any day of the week.

Football showing its potential this past fall and men’s hoop winning the natty in the spring couldn’t have come at a better time.
I couldn’t agree more but it does make me nervous for this football season. If we have a sub-5 win season it’s not a good look for realignment offers.
