April 2020 UConn Recruiting Thread

European basketball is set up in a similar way to European football (soccer) with local competition within the country and the best teams being selected for All Europe cup competitions in two tiers. The countries (or in some cases regions) may have multiple levels of domestic leagues, but only the top domestic league participates in the European Cup competitions.
 
September 2019 @ CheckMeOutShowcase (California): “Ducharme was the best player in the gym at the NorCal Showcase. She separated herself as an elite shooter who is willing to launch shots from distance with little regard of the arc. Ducharme’s technique allows her to be such a high level shooter. There is no dip on her shot. She catches the ball and keeps it high into her shooting pocket. Her left thumb does get behind the ball at times on her release, but it does not seem to affect the rotation of her shot or the accuracy left to right. To further solidify our solid impression of Ducharme coming out of this camp, she was the first camper in the gym and the last camper out on both days. She made it a point to get extra shots up after the session ended on Saturday.” — Jonathan Hemingway

If you are a high school player with a strong ego and self-worth, do you crave competing with all of the UCONN talent? Is the probablity of becoming Gaussian noise to great? Fear of getting lost in the Bueckers media showtime too much? No matter how unselfish Bueckers is, the media is not. You score 30 points and the media waxes poetically about Bueckers setting you up for the points. Many folks on this board have expressed concern for playing time. Probably recruits for next year are doing the same. If you were national NPOY as a sophomore in high school, wouldn't you want the same thing in college? Will this happen in UCONN's egalitarian basketball system? Better really believe you are another Moore, Stewart, or Taurasi.

A: Yes!
Q: Is the probablity of becoming Gaussian noise to great?
A: IDK what you mean by "Gaussian noise".

A: Nope! The original showtime was more than just Magic.
Q: If you were national NPOY as a sophomore in high school, wouldn't you want the same thing in college?
A: Nah! I'd want more.

A: Yes it can happen in the UCONN system because it has happen before. Tina Charles displaced Maya Moore as National POY. BTW UCONN system is not "egalitarian" is more of a meritocracy where players are selected on the basis of their ability. Game recognize game and killers want to be with other killers.
C: Better really believe you are another Moore, Stewart, or Taurasi
R: Neither player is seeking to be "another" Moore, Stewart, or Taurasi they are seeking to the "first" Paige or Azzi.

If you are truly "a high school player with a strong ego and self-worth" you don't need to have your name in the headlines after every game. It's the ones with insecurities that need that.

She sounds she would be good forward/ rebounder fit for 2021 class as we have more enough 3 guards shooters.

JUNIORS:
Kiki Iriafen
(Harvard-Westlake, Studio City) 6-3 F

Iriafen, who is the first-ever state junior of the year from Harvard-Westlake and is the second in a row from the San Fernando Valley (following Vanessa DeJesus of Sierra Canyon), has dozens of D1 college offers. Hearlihy said the list includes Baylor, Connecticut, Stanford, UCLA and USC with Stanford, UCLA and USC offering her a scholarship.


SOPHOMORES
Isuneh “Ice” Brady (Cathedral Catholic, San Diego) 6-4 C

Brady, who is considered one of the top five Class of 2022 college prospects in the nation, posted higher sophomore totals in all categories with 19.9 points, 13.4 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. In a head-to-head matchup in the CIF SoCal D1 regional playoffs vs. eventual state junior of the year Kiki Iriafen, Brady had 16 points and 10 rebounds in a 59-55 triumph.

That Katie Lou kid shows up a lot!

Regarding Kaleena, Parade Magazine used to list All-American teams. They had KML as a 1st team All-American 3 times. I believe they ranked her as the #5 player in the nation as a sophomore, #3 player as a junior, and #1 player as a senior. The "Lewis Launch" made her famous.
 
I can't help but notice the very few "busts" on @MilfordHusky list above-Destiny Littleton (Texas, now SC) and Aquira DeCosta (Baylor, now Loyala Maramount).

This may get its own thread as one of the reasons we have heard why HoopGurlz listed Angel Reese as #2 was her potential/ceiling is so high, yet other times we hear posters say the "ranking" is only reflective of the players current status. More to come... :cool:

Since Hoopgurlz is nothing more than one guy’s opinion, maybe those posters should ask Dan Olson instead of just guessing.

Aly Beebe, another player on the list, signed with Stanford, tore her ACL repeatedly, and had to medically retire without having ever played a minute in college.
 
Is there a list available of grad students eligible to play for 2020-21?

I am going to isolate myself for the next few years so I can enjoy the talent we have coming in.

This from The San Diego Union-Tribune, April 14:

Ice Brady of Cathedral Catholic was named the girls basketball Sophomore of the Year by Cal-Hi Sports.

The 6-4 Brady, who has committed to UConn, averaged 16.5 points and 10.7 rebounds a game for the Dons.

Last year's Freshman of the Year, Brady is the fourth player from San Diego to be named the top sophomore in the state, joining Destiny Littleton of Bishop's (2015), La Jolla Country Day's Kelsey Plum (2011), and Terri Mann of Point Loma (1985).
