I’ve been hoping for Iriafen for quite a while but now that Ducharme is on board I don’t know if Auriemma would want another class of 5. There’s a lot of high end front court talent in the ‘22 class and he already has Brady. And with Betts, Barker, Gardiner etc. out there, it might not be realistic.

Possible but maybe not realistic. I love Azzi to death, but I’d be thrilled to get Kiki.

I wish AZZI would commit already so we can all peacefully sleep at night and watch UConn dominate teams for the next 4-6 years

It is "minor" teams from little countries, not for quality but just lacking the money to keep their best players.
Even in EuroLeague & say div2 EuroCup, there is a big gap betweeen Russia & Turkey and the rest of the continent. Spain, Italy, Czech, France, Poland each have a few teams that can entertain but Russia & Turkey have the big sponsorship and so they attract the best players. A player who show talent in WABA, won't end long in this league, they will go in the previous said countries to earn more money and try to win more prestigious trophies.

Thanks so much for this. Could I ask a further question? What's the difference between EuroLeague and EuroCup? Two different leagues? But are there structural differences? Geographical? Money? Is EuroCup like the minor league for EuroLeague? Can a EuroLeague team get demoted (relegated) to EuroCup? Do they have separate drafts for talent?

Always curious what happens to our great players over there. No coverage to speak of here...

After watching the 2109 FIBA U16 Women's Championship once again for perhaps the 3rd time this is the kid that I was most impressed with. No, not Branford, or Rice, nor Betts, nor DeBerry, nor Aaliyah Moore, nor tiny Londynn Jones, and not Saylor. This is the kid that jumped off the screen. She is a sniper with a pretty shot from anywhere on the court.

Completely agree. Totally unselfish. Unfortunately, the shipped sailed for good with Caroline Ducharme's commitment.

@JordyG very disappointed that you are this late to the Payton party. A bunch of us were experiencing as it was happening realtime this summer. She does literally jump off the screen and the phrase used this summer was "sneaky athletic". A bunch of us moved her to the top of the list if UCONN cannot snag Azzi. She's going to be a powerful Alpha combo guard that is going to be a problem to contain.

Well no geographical differences between League & Cup, both cover all continent (&Turkey + Israel)

Cup is the B league of Intercontinental play, for exemple in France the first 3 teams of the LFB (national championship here) qualify for Euroleague, then 4 to 8 in the standings generally enter EuroCup play.

Euroleague regular season season play is divided in 2 groups of 8 teams, each meeting the others twice .
Then begins the fun, the first 4 of each groups qualify for Quarters-Final which are set A1vs B4, A2 vs B3, ...
The teams # 5 & 6 of each group in the regular standings are reversed to EuroCup where they enter directly in Quarter-Finals.

After Quarters, it is played as FF in Euroleague + a game between losers of semis for 3rd place.

In Eurocup, Quarters are draws between all teams with all "hasard", Euro League losers can meet each other or mett the last 4 qualified who entered Eurocup at the start of the season, then QF, SemiFinals & Cup are played with teams meeting home and away and point average making the decision if it's a tie .

So, yes, cup is B-League for teams who couldn't enter EuroLeague.

EuroLeague was previously known as Champions League.
EuroCup was previously known as Copa Ronchetti.

There is no draft in Europe, a young talent can be signed by whatever team wants him and he agrees to play for.

For exemple, the women team of Lyon ASVEL (Tony Parker is the ownerof this team) has this year entered the youngest player ever to play in a EuroLeague match, Juste Jocyte (lithuanian girl born in Washington DC) at 14years29days old.

European basketball is set up in a similar way to European football (soccer) with local competition within the country and the best teams being selected for All Europe cup competitions in two tiers. The countries (or in some cases regions) may have multiple levels of domestic leagues, but only the top domestic league participates in the European Cup competitions.

September 2019 @ CheckMeOutShowcase (California): “Ducharme was the best player in the gym at the NorCal Showcase. She separated herself as an elite shooter who is willing to launch shots from distance with little regard of the arc. Ducharme’s technique allows her to be such a high level shooter. There is no dip on her shot. She catches the ball and keeps it high into her shooting pocket. Her left thumb does get behind the ball at times on her release, but it does not seem to affect the rotation of her shot or the accuracy left to right. To further solidify our solid impression of Ducharme coming out of this camp, she was the first camper in the gym and the last camper out on both days. If you are a high school player with a strong ego and self-worth, do you crave competing with all of the UCONN talent? Is the probablity of becoming Gaussian noise to great? Fear of getting lost in the Bueckers media showtime too much? No matter how unselfish Bueckers is, the media is not. You score 30 points and the media waxes poetically about Bueckers setting you up for the points. Many folks on this board have expressed concern for playing time. Probably recruits for next year are doing the same. If you were national NPOY as a sophomore in high school, wouldn't you want the same thing in college? Will this happen in UCONN's egalitarian basketball system? Better really believe you are another Moore, Stewart, or Taurasi.

A: IDK what you mean by "Gaussian noise".

A: Nope! The original showtime was more than just Magic.

A: Nah! I'd want more.

A: Yes it can happen in the UCONN system because it has happen before. Tina Charles displaced Maya Moore as National POY. BTW UCONN system is not "egalitarian" is more of a meritocracy where players are selected on the basis of their ability. Game recognize game and killers want to be with other killers.
C: Better really believe you are another Moore, Stewart, or Taurasi
R: Neither player is seeking to be "another" Moore, Stewart, or Taurasi they are seeking to the "first" Paige or Azzi.

If you are truly "a high school player with a strong ego and self-worth" you don't need to have your name in the headlines after every game. It's the ones with insecurities that need that.

Kiki Iriafen
(Harvard-Westlake, Studio City) 6-3 F

Iriafen, who is the first-ever state junior of the year from Harvard-Westlake and is the second in a row from the San Fernando Valley (following Vanessa DeJesus of Sierra Canyon), has dozens of D1 college offers. Hearlihy said the list includes Baylor, Connecticut, Stanford, UCLA and USC with Stanford, UCLA and USC offering her a scholarship.

Isuneh “Ice” Brady (Cathedral Catholic, San Diego) 6-4 C

Brady, who is considered one of the top five Class of 2022 college prospects in the nation, posted higher sophomore totals in all categories with 19.9 points, 13.4 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. In a head-to-head matchup in the CIF SoCal D1 regional playoffs vs. eventual state junior of the year Kiki Iriafen, Brady had 16 points and 10 rebounds in a 59-55 triumph.
