But what does “package” have to do with liquor?
It’s not just Connecticut because I’ve heard it in other states, but I believe the origin of the term relates to laws that required liquor to be sold in its original package. I’ve also heard people say that it related to laws that prohibit public consumption of alcohol, which were not enforced if the alcohol was placed in a bag, or “package,” but I think that was a later development.

or it’s means if you drink enough booze you have a package on.

kudos to my RI relatives for that one

Guess what? We have tag sales too.

No one should ever try and understand New England colloquialisms.

They just are.

An alcoholic know when liquor stores open, a drunk knows what time they close.

I never knew what time liquor stores opened until lockdown.

I dont know what that says.

I will say this though, I looked it up and CT packy's can open at 8 am, but I dont think there is one within 30 miles of me that opens before 10.

I worked at a place that opened at 8, I spent so many 12 hour days there I would go home and dream about it.

Too hungover to open early

State Cops told me the worst time to go to the casino is 2:30 in the morning. Bars close at two, and the drunks drive to MGM to get a few more drinks.

Right. The liquor stamps were put on the packaging. I also heard a story that it related to the blue laws. At one point you couldn't buy booze on Sunday, but they'd sell a package with something else in it, and give you the booze for free.

I don't believe that particular story, but my grandmother told me of many loophole to get around the blue laws.

Most practical application of algebra I had to use in my younger days was Saturday around 6pm. Had to figure out if I had enough drinks to get through Saturday night AND Sunday, or if I had to make a run to the Packy before they closed at 8pm on Saturday night.

I think when they had to close at 8pm they probably took advantage of earlier open.
Now I think they still want their 12 hour days. 10 -10. I’m sure some areas where it makes sense take advantage of early opening at 8. Just not near me . I don’t really day drink but early lockdown I got in habit of doing grocery store early am and Wanted wine for dinner. But nobody was open....

This is great. What I find most impressive is that a grandma buying a bunch of Four Loko bombers wouldn't trigger an employee's brain to think something might be amiss.

The clip shows the gal returning from the mart with cans of Four Loko in tow, dancing with her friends while she rips off her mask.

Another way to look at this:

A standard drink is about 150 calories. A Big Mac is about 563 calories. (see USDA)

If you drink 3 bottles of wine (5 servings per bottle) per week = 2,250 calories
If you drink two six packs per week = 1,800 calories
Grand total: 4,050 calories or 7 Big Macs

So on average, after eating your usual amount of food and snacks per day, you are also eating an extra Big Mac every day. If you drink mostly in the evenings after supper, it is like having a Big Mac every night before going to sleep.

Meh, nothing 40 minutes of cardio can't take care of.

I haven't seen many stores stay open past 9, probably a big drop off of business after that.

Always Foxon Park Gasossa.
Never heard of the stuff before this post. I'm at the Geissler's today and there's Foxon Park on sale for a buck a bottle. I had to read the labels as I had no clue to its color. I must say, delicious and refreshing!

It's one of the strangest and least-attractive soda names imo; to me it suggests something that makes you gassy. But damn it's great, isn't it?

Someone once told me that the 'g' is supposed to be pronounced like a 'y,' like some people do when pronouncing "gyro." Tried that once in a New Haven pizza joint and got a blank stare, so I have stuck with the hard 'g' instead.

Hmmm...I'll bet it mixes well with vodka.
