ACC Big East merger

I absolutely know why the BE as a whole would want this.

I don't see why the ACC would want to add the entirety of the BE.
So a PE firm can purchase the entity and tear it to shreds.

The Big East, despite being pillaged by the acc, is the better basketball conference with programs in better markets

So a PE firm can purchase the entity and earn a tidy annual profit on an extremely valuable product

A) I wasn't responding to you.

B) Your position on this matter is abundantly clear. You think UConn's athletic program is toast. Nothing more to add to that.

Please…. I want to see Big East thrive, but if ACC comes calling UConn is gone.

My position has always been clear, we need to endure this and build up what needs building (football). We cannot spend our time daydreaming of a future where, similar to the 1980's, urban private schools will be dominated forces and there will be mo correlation between being in a major football conference and being in a major basketball conference.

Your position evidently is to show solidarity with PC & Seton Hall and hope schools in the B1G and SEC will start playing nice and not exploit their advantages.

You can't help him. He's too far gone...

All BE schools? Or, UConn for obvious all sports reasons (except hockey), plus a few specific east coast schools in the nation’s most densely populated metro areas, with LT biggest brands, mucho dinero, original BE rivalries, etc.?

The ACC seems like they are spending almost all their energy chasing BCS invitations. They added 3 programs and aren't even paying them. They have been performing worse than the BE in basketball for like 5 years. I understand why UConn would want to be there, but I don't see why the other BE programs would want that. The C7 made that decision 10 years ago... You got the money, they got the BE name. I think UConn will get in the ACC in the next media cycle.

A seat at the adults table. That is why the Big East would want to merge.

Sorry I guess I touched a nerve. Don't worry UConn will get their invitation the next media cycle. Hopefully they start sharing all their wealth by 2040.

Well, yeah! That's the easiest decision since pinch hitting the other Derek. I was replying to comments about why the Big East and ACC would want to merge.

I was trying to use the baseball abbreviation for designated hitter and it kept changing to Dan Hurley. That's annoying.

How does the ACC come calling? Walk us through what that scenario looks like. Explain to us what new information the ACC will have about UConn that was not available for the last TWENTY TWO YEARS that will make the ACC add us as a full member after us asking to join almost every year since 2003.

Easy…. ACC gets agreement from ESPN that they can add UConn. Or a school or two decides to leave opening spot in ACC.

ACC Big East Merger makes 0 sense for ACC. There are basically 4 valuable schools in the Big East for the ACC: UConn, St Johns, Villanova, Georgetown or Marquette. They would be way better just taking those 4 and calling it a day than adding a DePaul or Butler in the mix.

So what new information will ESPN get on UConn that it has not had for the last 22 years? You get that ESPN could have told the ACC to add UConn in 2003, right? So what's changed?

Mate, St. Patty's Day was well over a week ago, I hope you're not still tanked cuz there is no way what you wrote is going to happen. That conference has given us the middle finger so many times, and the last addition of CalFordSmu was the biggest middle finger of all. I'll have a better chance of waking up to a Maserati MC20 in my driveway tomorrow than having those rat bastards ever inviting us to their conference. Still, they're fairly stupid...if we change our university's name to like Nutmeg State University, they might consider a scheduling agreement.

I wish I owned this car and knew where you lived. Because I would show up tomorrow at like 7 AM and lean on the horn in the driveway.

If I didn't have put my kids thru college soon, I'd take some of my 401k, buy that car, and pick ya up for a drive to the Rent on gameday.

What's changed? That's rich. I'll provide Notes by Cliff rather than the War and Peace version

1. ACC went from being an insider in the P6 to an outsider from the P2
2. FSU and Clemson have been granted an escape portal
3. Former Big East invitees have mostly sheet the bed
4. P4 programs became available!!! yawn...
5. 5 men's natties and a few women's
6. a. Dan Hurley
6. b. Jim Mora

It simply makes ZERO sense that the acc has not grabbed UConn so at some point, someone is going to have to get off the dope and make the call.

Pssh, they are bright kids. I'm sure they'll get scholarships.

:D

Have him drive to you. You'd have to go an hour and 20 minutes in the wrong direction if you picked him up

It is a real longshot, but this topic is worth its own thread.

On a related but separate note, this forum is becoming a misery. Most of our fanbase is emotionally invested in the failure of UConn athletics, and viciously attack every remotely positive story about realignment options for UConn without ever offering a remotely realistic alternative. We might want to consider changing the title of this forum to the "UConn Sky Is Falling" board.
They're just projecting their own personal problems, like any trolls.

It's in the ACC's and Big East's interest to merge and resemble the SEC and use the best teams in a geographic region from Carolinas to Massachusetts.

That would make more predictable and lower transportation costs, renew old rivalries and create amazing new ones. TV revenue would be immense with Duke/UConn 2x and Duke/St. John's 2x etc.

Duke - NC
UConn - CT
St. John's - NY
UNC - NC
Villanova - PA
Syracuse - NY
Virginia - VA
Boston College - MA
Providence - RI
Pittsburgh - PA
NC State - NC
Wake Forest - NC
Georgetown - DC

would rival the SEC for inclusion in the tourney and add football with more parity since we have played UNC and others in the past.

So instead of UConn going to the ACC, why not make a mega East conference - schools like SC, BU, Northeastern, Delaware would want in but they can smartly add teams in the geography instead of this coast to coast budget wasting scheme the ACC has or why we need to head to Milwaukee for Marquette or Omaha for Creighton.

Schools that do not play FBS football are without any value.

That would tank St. John's and Providence. The rest I think do have FSB (us, Georgetown, Villanova do and I think all the ACC teams there do). But St. John's with Pitino is a TV draw for basketball - Providence can go swim I guess.

SJU with Pitino is, what, 3 more years?

Georgetown & Villanova are FCS football - not FBS.
