AAF

I don’t get it. How did they burn through 250M already? If they actually did that then they don’t deserve to survive.

They haven’t. It’s Condon who is making the threat. Essentially he is saying Daddy isn’t going to spend the 250.

IIRC they are citing lack of cooperation from the NFLPA

Did they get this whole operation going without clearing it up with the NFL that they can be an NFL developmental league?

He doesn’t really have a plan. Who are they supposed to give them?

I would think practice squad level guys, but then who becomes the practice squad

There are CFL guys

Honestly I thought that they were going to get this up and running quickly with local grassroots talent; I remember rules about teams drafting players who had to have grown up or gone to college in the general area.

I don’t remember them being all about taking guys from the NFL, or why a conflict with the NFLPA was what I remember being cited as the primary reason the league can’t get going

Maybe they used the PAC 12 network financial model.

Seriously - I hope they can limp to a season two.

There are plenty of veterans in the AAF who are better than practice squad guys.

There isn’t any realistic way for a league that plays an opposite schedule to be a direct development league.... the true development league already plays on Saturday.

If they can’t get enough TV money to support it’s dead because there isn’t any other path to breaking close to even.

Might not matter. Owner says he will shut it down unless he gets a player development deal with the NFL. Maybe in a week or two.

The quick rise and fall of this league must have some juicy drama for a book or even a showtime mini series.

That’s a really short book.

Oh come on.

Episode 1 - the youthful brash NBC execute son hatches a league as part of his way of getting out from dad's shadow.
Episode 2 - reality hits when fund raising meets skeptics - show ends when angel funding saying yes.
Episode 3 - fund raising was easy compared to operational reality... owners/mayors/facilities/logos/gear... all swirl in a toxic sea of arrogance, idiocy and greed.
Episode 4 - overselling to wishful fringe nfl players
Episode 5 - media/tv deal breakthrough
Episode 6 - not all angel investors are legit/neither are all mayors&cities
Episode 7 - resurrection from near death (this is a theme that will repeat three times an episode!)
Episode 8 - a fringe college star banks a career rebirth- which lifts the league - but maybe not all in a positive way as hoped.
Episode 9 - prep for game one/opening night...total show shot in a near real time fashion leading up to kick off. all kinds of deeper stories running through the first 8 episodes (which I have not yet developed - but will! (ie love/greed/hate/jealousy/fraud)) meet crescendo.

This stuff is easy.

Their app did some cool stuff - but.... one would venture it cost them less than $70 mill to develop.
Hey, the AAF will have given the football world 4th and 12 instead of onside kicks and a gambling app.

Trying to decide if I should get another hoodie.

Yeah - I have no clue on development valuation - be worth watching what he does with it all said and done (MGM seemed smitten with it).

its funny watching everyone fall all over themselves in a effort to get into such a low margin business.

the casinos in vegas took out their books or outsourced them because they were a waste of space and effort

article today on how delaware is the only state getting near the numbers people tossed around

the unmet demand people thinks exists isnt there - and the ‘legal’ options are garbage in comparison
