I often read how great our fanbase is and how many diehards we have here. Just pointed out some evidence to the contrary.

Many of us are old school fans and go back to the Old Field House
I've been there since 1965 w/season tickets
I don't know Mau personally but if you have been following here for years, as I have, you know he bleeds true blue, like I do and tons of others
These days of HD TV and as we get older with families and other obligations - it gets harder to get to games. I give my son 1/2 my tickets
I have been a Friend of Soccer since inception in the 70's and religiously since the field ran counter to where it now lies and had no bleachers.I was a founder of the "North Goal Group"
You know how many of my season tickets to soccer I used this past season? 3. But that doesn't make me any less of a fan

We're talking about a conference tournament were all schools were given ticket allotments and with the AAC distant issues and UConn being down - you could see this attendance issue a mile away
Did you watch some of the other conference tourneys? There were a lot of ghost towns out there
You can be disappointed but there is a reality out there.
The fans sure didn't show up this year - When Gampel is 1/2 full you know attendance is an issue

It's my team. I can be objective though.

I think we are a year behind where I thought we'd be with TL, AG injuries, lack of SE development and total incomplete on Durham.

I think tourney next year and FF potential in 2018-19 if everyone stays (JA, TL) and we get productive play at the 4-5 from some combination of guys.

And that doesn't even matter. We had tickets to give away the last 2 days and couldn't do THAT. If you live with 60 min of XL and you couldn't get there for a playoff game ( legit extenuating circumstances aside) shame on you and all of us.

Or let's look at December , I put 2 extra tickets that I was GIVING away for the north Florida game ( or whoever the heck they were) with seats were you could literally touch KO from. Offered them on this message board. One person took one. Nobody wanted the other.

People may not want to hear it, but whalers right here. We suck.


We are such a spoiled " event " fan base. We had no problem spending 1000 bucks to get to msg on a Monday in December. But 30 dollar tickets to a playoff game at home and people can't be bothered.

Spoiled rotten rich front running brats. We are a sucky fan base.

Why did 10000 plus UConn fans show up at msg in December if it is a garbage product?
 
It is amazing that everyone's energy level went up 500% because they beat a bad Houston team on Friday after struggling against an abysmal USF one on Thurs.

Play @ Mohegan. Problem solved. Can get 6-8k every game and will look great on TV. And kids will have a blast hanging at Casino for a few days.

Maybe they should move to MSG. Then we could get more than 6,500 fans for a highly ranked rival. You can spend $200 to go there instead of $15 to go to the XL Center - it all makes perfect sense.

I don't think anyone disagrees with Mohegan being a good spot. For whatever reason the conference hasn't pulled the trigger.

It does. We are spoiled and entitled. the " whine (sic) and cheese" crowd has no problem getting to NYC on a Monday night. They have their 300 dollar dinner and Pay 15 bucks a beer at a bar, because NYC, and they think it makes them a fan.

But a home playoff game at 5 pm on a Saturday ( which is the most convenient time you could EVER schedule a game. I mean it's perfect for everyone) and they can't be bothered because, hey, we are not 30-2.

Screw them.

Yes because I'm a fan of the team. That makes sense to me. If you don't think attendance is based off of wins, losses, and quality of play then I don't know what to tell you.

Name me one school in the country with a losing record that sells out or comes close. Not everyone is on your level of fanhood - we get it. You made that clear. But there's no reason to call out fans for not going. People can do what they want with their money. Let them give excuses - leave it at that.

I haven't claimed myself some type of super fan.

I conceed that people that donate more money are better fans.

I conceed that people that show up all winter at Gampel are better fans.

I conceed that people that travel to more road games are better fans than me.

People who sit home because the team isn't good enough, or can't be bothered because they don't like the American or can't even be bothered to subscribe to stations that show the games and beg for illegal streams - yep I'm a better fan than they are.

Keep checking in to find out when the team is good enough for you to grace us with your presence.

And of course the team will get worse if people don't show up. That can't be a serious question

It's not a different subject at all. fan support is a component of recruiting and absolutely a HUGE component of CR.

We are getting what we deserve. I don't want to hear people bitching about either around here until we do our part.

Name me one school that styles itself as a "blue blood," yet whose fan base had so little demand for program merchandise that there was no need for the university to trademark the freaking logo until the '88 NIT run - 85 years into the program's existence. I bleed blue as much as anyone else here, but that's just tragic. We may be the biggest bunch of frontrunners in the entire country.

I also tend to agree that had this been a bigger tournament (i.e. Big East or ACC) the place would have been packed, but since we're not in that position, we don't have that luxury.

Everyone knows AAC is a death knell for our programs but after 4 years, I'm just shocked at how much we've already gone down in terms of support only three seasons removed from a title.

I have the P5 dream, but I wonder how much more we can sustain this league for basketball specifically.

I wonder if there is anyway to do a ND-lite deal with the ACC to even out their hoops league at 16 and get maybe 4 ACC games a season for football....

Northeast basketball is suffering and he claims it to be "dying" because Syracuse and Pittsburgh actively behind closed doors conspired to kill it, and succeeded.

One thing I hate about all this CR crap is how no one outside the BE really gave these two schools crap for dismantling something they built before jumping ship to their direct competitor.

I hope those two schools are hit with a plague.

One more thing. We have had sustained excellence going on 30 years.
This team and program deserved to be supported during a rare real down year. They've earned that right. We aren't talking about 5 years of losing seasons here or anything close to that. People bail in the midst of one bad year? Pathetic absolutely pathetic. Shame on @CTBasketball
