4-star PG Jalen Carey no longer considering Miami Hurricanes Basketball per report

Someone should tell him to stop sliding into former Huskies. It's rude and dangerous.

Sliding into DMs is how you stalk these days tho

Ahh, the mandatory "we need a kid who wants to be at UConn" after the fact justification. Stage 3 of every UConn recruitment.

Jalen Carey should have no worries about starting here because he will. Carey and Akinjo will be our starting backcourt next year. Jalen Adams is looking to go pro and even if he doesn't, Carey is still good enough to be a starter on our team. The Jalen to Jalen combo could be deadly if Adams stays. With Akinjo and Vital as well we would have the top backcourt in the nation with all 4 of those guys.

Neither Akinjo or Carey would start next year. The starting back court will be Gilbert and Vital.

Unless Jalen develops a 3pt shot this season then our starting backcourt next year will be Jalen and AG.

Made 36 on 35% up from 27% from freshman year and dealt with injuries and being focal point of opposing defenses last year. Bazz shot 35% from 3 as a sophomore while Kemba shot 34% as a sophomore from 3 and 33% as a junior. I hope Jalen comes back next year but I don't think 3 point shooting will be what keeps him from leaving.

Still, AG doesn't exist in your mind
Amazing

What's wrong with it? Good form, 35%. Put up or shut up.
35% on low volume is good to you? Have you ever seen Jalen shoot a 3 in rhythm or off the dribble even once? Have you watched the NBA in the last 5 years? Have you looked at the game of the current starting PG in the NBA? I'm not saying Adams has no shot at leaving this year, but without a more reliable and natural 3pt shot his only options this coming off-season will be to return for his senior year or go the Daniel Hamilton route. And lmao at "put up or shut up", yea dude you really put up with that single sentense.

Yes how bout between the legs with his back to the basket fading away with multiple defenders on him against OKSU in Maui :)

He couldn't take any more threes bc there were no other ball handlers. No one could pass or score. This year will be different

Low volume? The kid was a facilitator, the kid could drive and make 2s, get to the line. He did everything. You must not watch much UConn basketball if you've never seen him shoot in rhythm.

If you're going to knock the kid, and the best you can come back with is, "Sure," then don't be surprised when you're called on it.

I'm not sure that with all the responsibility that rested on JA's shoulders last year, we really saw the "real" JA.
What he did in Hawaii was nothing short of spectacular and if he could have come close to doing that on a consistent basis all year, while he did have a deservingly 1st team AAC season, we would not be talking about JA in the line-up at all now.
Can he shoot a 3 in rhythm - to say he did not at all last year means you didn't watch all the games. Did he do it consistently? No but he had no other ball handler in order to allow him that luxury. Can he improve his long distance shooting? Sure but that could be said about most anyone except a Reddick type player.

8 days away for decision. Little over a week. We still not feeling good about this? Has the staff been to see him recently?

This is a next. Staff looking to 19'.

They will look to see if anything happens from the scandal or they will look at another graduate transfer depending on who we lose.

Also, depending on how we do, and how Rutgers performs, there is some talk of Montez not being thrilled about his decision. Probably just talk, but you get the point.

So what do we do if Carey, decides next Wends. to commit to UConn and not Cuse? We are already 1 over our allowed scholarships.

Yes.

Moving on . . .

I had forgotten how unstoppable he is in transition. And at the college level, I mean literally unstoppable.

Also he has a great mid-range game, and is terrific off catch and shoot. And is a great passer, considering how ball dominant he had to be. He will do awesome this year being able to play off ball a little bit more, but leading the team with the ball in his hands in crunch time. Will save him energy and allow for him to make those crafty drives he's so effecient at.

Montez as a shooting guard has been totally replaced by Matthews, but Carey as a combo guard has not been replaced by Akinjo. Still room for him (though highly unlikely). I can see another 2/3 committing to UConn, though I do see need for a 1/2.

I think we end up with a grad transfer in the spring/summer. So that we can keep a scholly for 2019

There have been flashes of Jalen where he looks just completely unstoppable with the ball in his hands. Like Kemba in MSG good. Overtime in the Cincinatti game in the AAC tourney. The second half of the OkSt game last year both come to mind. I feel like he could really explode this year into a superstar if all the pieces fit together the right way.

Sophomore Jalen was equal to, and possibly better than, sophomore Kemba, IMO. Kemba was wildly inconsistent his sophomore year. I think people forget just how huge a leap it was between his sophomore and junior seasons.

This is a bad take. The low volume point compared to what? Comparing him (35% on 3.2 attempts) to Boat (33% on 4.3 attempts), Bazz(36% on 4.9 attempts), Walker(34% on 3.3 attempts) is disingenuous because of the vast differences in roles during their sophomore year. What do you mean by more natural 3 point shot? I'll hang up and await your response.

I see Matthews of more of 3 than 2 and only playing SG if needed.Either way I think you will more likely see a 1/2 than a 2/3 with all the wings we presently have on the team Williams, Wilson and Matthews. Carey would be perfect complement to the team but it seems like that boat has sailed. Still I would like to see UCONN get another combo guard as I'm not sold on AG's shoulder and we only CV and James Akinjo as true ball handlers next year.

Jalen is without question and elite shooter off the catch and shoot. 50% ish from 3, i believe.

Off the dribble he was not great, partly because it wasnt "natural looking (ie. His footwork wasn't great). Footwork on the perimeter definitely can be learned. He also sttuggled shooting sometimes because his motor was not ready for 35 minutes of being the complete focus of the D.

Same thing with his driving. Even though he was elite, his motor kept him from rafter-worthy performanxe at times. Only thing that didnt seem to suffer was his passing (though occasional dumb turnovers happened) and his mid range shot. If he has prepared his body for the grind this year, worked on that 3 off the dribble, practiced for a respectable left hand drive... well in that case he might just be the best guard in the ncaa
