Using Win Shares to
compare Paige and Sonia who are on two dissimilar teams (Wins, Defense) is
flawed;
- Win Shares (Total) approximates Wins; as of today, Dallas has 9 wins whereas Washington has 16 wins; so Paige is disadvantaged in this comparison (though compares favorably with (Win Shares / Wins) % with (3.2/9 = 35.6% Paige) vs (4.1/16 = 25.6%);
- Defensive Win Shares punishes a player if she is on a poor defensive team; see Kyrie example &1.
&1 “A good example of this is Kyrie: 16-17 in Cleveland he had 0.028 DWS/48 and when he went to Boston he now had 0.067 DWS/48 more than doubling his total despite his RPM only improving slightly (-2.3 to -1.3), meanwhile Kyrie has really improved his D this year yet his DWS/48 has decreased to .063.”
