2025 WNBA Regular Season

Completely fair points and a fair opinion.

I guess I just look at Dallas as having too many guards/wings and not enough firepower at the 4 and 5 and being poor defensively. James isn't Arike, your point about Arike being the main scout and still getting hers is a solid one. James isn't that, at least not at this stage of her career and maybe never will be. I just think she's a poor man's Arike, someone who can do a lot of the same things and plays a very similar style and costs less.

I don't know Dallas' financial situation or flexibility. If they can afford to have Arike AND still go out and sign a legit quality big (ideally who defends well), then obviously that's the move. Paige, Arike and an elite post is a great trio with JJ and James and Jones etc around them as complementary pieces.

Funny this kind of came up, but I listened to this video earlier today. I didn't realize that Dijonai and McCowan were on 200K salaries. I don't think Dallas will stick with either of them next season. Unless Arike wants out, I think they will try and make it work with her. She has her moments. They need a mobile big that can play good defense.

They should just get Aaliyah Edwards. Feels super obvious and she'd slot right in with Paige. Brilliantly.

Wow .... The 1.2 million dollar coach really is committed to the Dallas defense. After holding the Fever to 107 he's taking his team into Atlanta and held the Dream to 70% shooting and 34 points in the first quarter. You got to admire how he's gone all in on that defensive scheme from Dallas

I am horrible! I got the Indiana/Dallas game on the big screen...muted. I got the Golden State/Chicago game on my laptop, with sound. On my phone I got the New York/Connecticut game on. Then there is my iPad, where I got the Phoenix/Atlanta game going. Multitasking at its finest :) ;)

This is where the multi-view option with League Pass would simplify things. ;)

The only thing that's a detraction is the screen ratio could be better.

Don't know which I enjoy more. Your posts about the Mercury and Coach Tibbetts or The Gazette's Woody Paige's rousing posts about the Colorado Rockies and their season of ineptitude. The deadpan tone gets me chuckling every time. ;)

Nothing says hustle like winning three road games in a row by a total of 10 points (with half our starting lineup out to boot)! Talk about some Valkyries Valor. (we'll disregard the "after being obliterated by 30 by the worst team in the league part).

Nice to see Brink get going in the 2nd half. Scored 7 quick points, had some blocks, her energy changed the game. Unfortunately she just can't stay out of foul trouble.

Plum barely touched the ball in the first half and had 2 points and 1 assist. Now w/ 3 minutes and change left she's right on her season averages of 20 points and 6 assists. She pretty much took over the second half. Jackson has been playing well too. Stevens and Hamby were aggressive early but not so much as the game progressed.

Great game for Nneka.

Back and forth down to the wire...we're going OT. Gabby scored w/ 7.9 to go up 2, but Rickea answered w/ about 4 seconds to tie it up.

Finally over. Diggins' shot at the buzzer rolled off the rim, almost had 3 OT. 108-106 final. I don't think either team subbed at all during either OT session, huge minutes for all the starters.

27 for Jackson, 22 for Plum, 21 each for Stevens and Hamby.

37 for Nneka, 18 for Diggins, 15 for Wheeler, 14 for Gabby.

Gabby's stat line included 8 assists and 5 steals. She leads the W in steals, with 2.5 spg. Atkins is 2nd with 1.9, Paige and Phee are next with 1.8 spg.

What a great night for basketball with some surprising results! New York losing to Connecticut! Wow. That was New York's 3rd straight loss. Sure the Liberty was shorthanded but that is no excuse because had they won, we would have heard about how they were shorthanded but still won. Hats off to Connecticut, especially Marina Mabrey and our own Olivia Nelson-Odoa. ONO probably had one of her best games so far this season. Well done, ONO!

Seattle/Los Angeles! Now that was the GAME!! I know the media likes to focus on some of these younger players but these vets like Dearica Hamby, Azura Stevens, Kelsey Plum, Nneka Ogwumike, Skylar Diggins, Erica Wheeler, and Gabby Williams, are the heart of the WNBA! To see players like Plum and Ogwumike playing the full game. You gotta give them their flowers. Hats off to the vets of the League.

For me, my favorite game to watch was the Golden State/Chicago , matchup. I have always been a fan of Veronica Burton (Big Ten). She is a just a joy to watch. Grit and Grind game. She does not get the respects she deserves. I am quickly becoming a fan of Janelle Salaun as well!! She is another member of this talented rookie class that is playing well. Golden State, even though they were playing shorthanded, continue to play well and win. That is a testament to the coach and the players. Hard work beats talent when talent does not work hard. Golden State is one of the hardest working teams out there. They are just relentless! I love watching that team play.

I think I said it recently, Nneka is an ageless wonder. She isn't showing the slightest signs of slowing down or losing anything in her game. She's 35 and in her 14th season. She appears to have some good years left and is going to continue climbing the career records. Already Top 10 in scoring and rebounding. Not a stretch to see her getting in the Top 5 in both.

Well said! Nneka continues to play at a high level.

One thing I forgot to add. In that Seattle/Los Angeles game last night, we all know Skylar likes to drive. She is a physical player. Not afraid of the contact. That rascal played 43 minutes and not one free throw attempt. Coach Quinn in her post game mentioned the same thing. It was strange for Skylar not to get to the line.

Because I feel like many players and coaches complain about this, I would find it helpful if someone could point to specific plays to illustrate where they're getting robbed by non-calls. Overall free throw attempts were pretty even between the Storm and the Sparks so it's not like there was one sided reffing across the board. Again, not saying she wasn't robbed, but I'd prefer to see a specific replay than talk in abstraction.

I agree 100% with this. Different example that most UConn fans will recall - games against UCF back in the day when Coach Abe was at the helm were ugly like rugby scrums. UConn plays tight defense but works super hard not to foul. UCF played overly physical and dirty in the opinion of many. You would expect in a game for them to get called for like 40 fouls to UConn's 10, but it never worked out that way.

The mantra of coaches in situations like that was "the refs will never call all the fouls so just go out and hold, hit, push, elbow, grab etc.". I think that's buII$hit and if 2 players foul out in the first quarter, you bet your @ss that the team will stop fouling.

Back to the W, some teams just DO foul more. Others spend a lot of time playing tight defense mostly without fouling. I suspect that the better teams will be called for less fouls because the lesser teams try to be more physical to "even things up". Quinn needs to send a tape to the head of the refs with every example she is talking about and not just whine that "Skyler didn't get any calls". There was a pretty horrible foul call on Gabby after the Wheeler/Plum fiasco where Gabby played incredible defense, went straight up with her arms vertical, and was called for the foul. Yuck.

Side note - that out of bounds play where Wheeler tapped the ball while on defense and it was obvious to everyone with eyes that it bounced off Plum's hip and went out of bounds. But the call was not overturned. The announcers were speechless and one even commented "well I guess the refs are just opposed to overturning the call of one of their coworkers". That's complete crap as well.

This is one of the downsides to more viewership and attention to the league. Really bad reffing is going to be way more noticed and talked about. I hope the league does something about it.

Thought it was just me. We complain yearly about scheduling and nothing changes. 8 teams (out of 13) playing at the exact same time is insane.

This is a first. WNBA delayed for LaCrosee and now moved to a different channel due to LaCrosee match/game being in OT.

Likely will be top 5 in both by the end of next season. A few more good years and she could be top 2-3 in both categories

Minnesota beats Vegas by 53. Phee goes out with a foot injury late in the 3rd while her team was up by 43 points. Leaving any of your starters out there with a 40+ point lead is a questionable decision by Reeve. This was such an avoidable injury. No reason to keep your stars in the game in a 44 game season with a brutal travel schedule and minimal days where you're not playing, traveling, or recovering for a game. Give your starters a rest when you can. I hope the injury isn't severe.
