2025 WNBA Regular Season

Sigh. Had a feeling that would happen based on how the fans celebrated her when she fouled Sheldon. For as much as we read and hear complaints about the game being too physical, the fan reaction at the game seems to indicate otherwise.
I think the reaction is "finally someone is giving it back to the other team after the way they've been going after Clark since she entered the league." That's my read.

Either way, it still being celebrated by a subset of the WNBA fanbase. It doesn't matter if it's Clark or someone else, it's a mob mentality that contradicts the media talking heads saying fans don't want this in the game. If they can make it an exception because it's Clark, what's to stop them from explaining it away when the next generational talent goes pro?

It's a slipper slope to me and the WNBA needs to do something about the refereeing situation. I don't have an issue with physicality as most BYers know I prefer FIBA interpretations more than NCAAW. My bone of contention has been the lack of consistency because that's what leads to these problems. The focus of emphasis on "freedom of movement" this season, which should have addressed this, seems to be just talk sadly. :(

The league has consistently shown an inability to make necessary changes/adjustments. I have zero confidence in league management.

The first push by Mabrey was after Clark had pushed Sheldon in the chest.

During the first half when it started getting chippy, Antonelli said she was glad the officials didn't call any T's. I've been thinking that if they had at least issued warnings after Sheldon/Mabrey/Clark first got into it and whistled the first extra-curricular activity after that, they might have been able to avoid this.
Clark pushed Sheldon after being poked in the eye and being bellied up (Jacy followed up the poke by rushing up to Clark and pushing her with her belly.) l believe I would have pushed back too. She can’t let these girls intimidate her! The refs are simply atrocious beyond belief! Mabry should have been ejected. I really think there’s a strong likelihood that Clark will not make it through this season if something is not done. It’s not just Clark either, though I think she gets it from way more people. The physicality is just way out of hand and is imo spoiling the game.

People are saying that Clark flopped but I saw a view that showed that she was tripped by Charles, I think accidentally when Mabry pushed her. She was facing away and when Mabry shoved her, her foot caught on Tina’s foot and down she went.

Look Stewie used to get hammered nightly her first 2 years in the league. Especially when she played Minnesota so this isn't knew it's just more people are watching now.
B ut if the league doesn't clean it up by the end of the year they will lose a lot of the new fans.

I’m gonna disagree with the last sentence. The new fans are just CC fans and as long as she’s in the league they aren’t going anywhere.

There are new fans coming because of Reese, Citron, Bueckers, Iriafen, etc., as well. Clark may have the lionshare of the numbers, but to assume she's the only one bringing in new fans is short changing the impact a lot of these new players have in the league.

Phoenix is such a hard team for my brain to rationalize as a 'good' team. They don't pass the eye test, yet they win games. They look like a bottom 5 team but have the record of a top 5 team.
This is how I see them as well. The schedule was kind to them early on, which is messing with people's brains. I think we'll see the real Phoenix towards late July/early August (when those undrafted rookies start to break down/tire out).

Caitlin didn't flop. Mabrey bodychecked her. It was a blindside hit that should've resulted in an ejection, a hefty fine, and a suspension.

Alyssa Thomas may never win the league MVP award, but she is definitely MVP worthy. She just makes her teams better. They match her energy.
Oddly enough, this may be her best shot at it IF Phoenix proves itself to be legit. Injuries, scheduling, and unconventional stats (e.g. triple doubles) will play a bigger role than in previous seasons.

I’m not saying no one else is bringing in the new fans. I relieve that.

Oh boy. Both games are on Prime tonight. I hope Amazon fixed their video issues with Prime Sports. I can watch a whole movie and 3 seasons of Jack Ryan without one issue. Watch a WNBA game on Prime and I get glitches every second! We will see what happens later with these games on Prime.

Had to laugh. My wife and I struggle with Prime (we cast from our phones to the TV) and we always assume it's user error.

The WNBA League office screws themselves when they don't suspend these players for their actions like what happened the other day in that Indiana/Connecticut game. A fine is nice but if the League was serious, they would suspend players for their actions out on the court.

Watching the WNBA on Prime is the most interesting thing! I do remember watching an NFL game on Prime last season and there were some issues but nothing like when watching a WNBA game.

I was talking about the first incident, in the second quarter, when things started getting out of hand.
