She probably needs to rest that ankle anyways.I am expecting a suspension today for Sophie Cunningham.

Nope. Players can be ejected at any point (even after the game). Live ball, dead ball has nothing to do with it.In a previous post I noted I don't think she could have been because it happened during a dead ball situation.
Was what she did enough to be considered a flagrant 2? That's the only scenario that would have had her ejected immediately. If anything she would have received a technical.
As no one was assessed a technical earlier when the first shoving situation happened, it wouldn't have been enough for an ejection at that point as two technicals are required for an ejection.
I'm still of the opinion that had the referees done their job in the first half, a lot of this mess could have been avoided.
Hence why I said "I don't think she could" because I wasn't sure.Nope. Players can be ejected at any point (even after the game). Live ball, dead ball has nothing to do with it.
Many years ago in the NBA Mendy Rudolph would always take control of a game early if they got too physical. One quick warning then a technical . Players got his point very fast, and they always got back to playing basketball. The first push by Mabrey was after Clark had pushed Sheldon in the chest.
During the first half when it started getting chippy, Antonelli said she was glad the officials didn't call any T's. I've been thinking that if they had at least issued warnings after Sheldon/Mabrey/Clark first got into it and whistled the first extra-curricular activity after that, they might have been able to avoid this.
Correct.Nope. Players can be ejected at any point (even after the game). Live ball, dead ball has nothing to do with it.
Speaking of the good ol’ days — did the play by Cunningham on Sheldon toward the end of the game give anyone flashbacks of (IIRC) McHale clotheslining Rambis in the Celts-Lakers series many years ago? Many years ago in the NBA Mendy Rudolph would always take control of a game early if they got too physical. Thanks for posting it. At least I was partially correct per the referee's perspective. The foul has been upgraded since last night.Correct.
Official Ashley Gloss said in the pool report after the game that the contact made by Mabrey did not rise to the level of ejection or meet the criteria for a flagrant 2.
Good for Grace. With half their team out, looks like LA just picked up Grace Berger and she's getting some minutes tonight.
Anyone who has eyes can see she is outmatched and unprepared.By what standard? The number of times I see posts like this on the board, it makes me shake my head.
The same was being said about Hillmon when she was drafted by the Dream. Some thought Amihere being drafted in 2023 was a sign she was going to get cut. Who's still in Atlanta?
If she does get waived, it doesn't mean she's not fit for the W. It may be a situation that Connecticut wasn't the right fit for her. Bridget Carleton is a great example of that as she was a 2nd round pick who got waived and is now a key cog in Minnesota. That took time as well as she had to work her tail off to earn her starter's role.
Sigh. Had a feeling that would happen based on how the fans celebrated her when she fouled Sheldon. For as much as we read and hear complaints about the game being too physical, the fan reaction at the game seems to indicate otherwise.Apparently sales for Sophie Cunningham jerseys are blowing up after last night's action.

I think the reaction is "finally someone is giving it back to the other team after the way they've been going after Clark since she entered the league." That's my read.Sigh. Either way, it still being celebrated by a subset of the WNBA fanbase. It doesn't matter if it's Clark or someone else, it's a mob mentality that contradicts the media talking heads saying fans don't want this in the game. If they can make it an exception because it's Clark, what's to stop them from explaining it away when the next generational talent goes pro?I think the reaction is "finally someone is giving it back to the other team after the way they've been going after Clark since she entered the league." The league has consistently shown an inability to make necessary changes/adjustments. I have zero confidence in league management.Either way, it still being celebrated by a subset of the WNBA fanbase. It's a slipper slope to me and the WNBA needs to do something about the refereeing situation. I don't have an issue with physicality as most BYers know I prefer FIBA interpretations more than NCAAW. My bone of contention has been the lack of consistency because that's what leads to these problems. The focus of emphasis on "freedom of movement" this season, which should have addressed this, seems to be just talk sadly.![]()
Clark pushed Sheldon after being poked in the eye and being bellied up (Jacy followed up the poke by rushing up to Clark and pushing her with her belly.) l believe I would have pushed back too. She can’t let these girls intimidate her! The refs are simply atrocious beyond belief! Mabry should have been ejected. I really think there’s a strong likelihood that Clark will not make it through this season if something is not done. It’s not just Clark either, though I think she gets it from way more people. The physicality is just way out of hand and is imo spoiling the game. The first push by Mabrey was after Clark had pushed Sheldon in the chest.

Look Stewie used to get hammered nightly her first 2 years in the league. Especially when she played Minnesota so this isn't knew it's just more people are watching now.Either way, it still being celebrated by a subset of the WNBA fanbase. B ut if the league doesn't clean it up by the end of the year they will lose a lot of the new fans.
There are new fans coming because of Reese, Citron, Bueckers, Iriafen, etc., as well. Clark may have the lionshare of the numbers, but to assume she's the only one bringing in new fans is short changing the impact a lot of these new players have in the league.I’m gonna disagree with the last sentence. The new fans are just CC fans and as long as she’s in the league they aren’t going anywhere.
@TheFarmFan something fishy is going here, eh?Anyone having issues with their WNBA All-Star voting? I had a few days where my voting was not going through. I think my votes for Veronica Burton was messing with the algorithms![]()

This is how I see them as well. The schedule was kind to them early on, which is messing with people's brains. I think we'll see the real Phoenix towards late July/early August (when those undrafted rookies start to break down/tire out).Phoenix is such a hard team for my brain to rationalize as a 'good' team. They don't pass the eye test, yet they win games. They look like a bottom 5 team but have the record of a top 5 team.![]()
