2025 Transfer Portal - UConn Interest Only

It’s not a championship roster. You can’t lose Alex & just do nothing to replace him. If Alex goes to the NBA, they have to find someone who can come in and immediately be an all conference level type player. That’s a huge hole to fill.
And somehow these are UConn fans who have apparently been watching decades of UConn bball saying this stuff, smh

If you think that you can just remove a player of Alex’s caliber, do nothing to replace it, and win a title, idk what to tell you.

Serious question:

Do you believe that our staff will take the same approach to filling out the remainder of the roster regardless of whether AK does or does not return?

If Alex leaves we're going to replace him, this is dumb
I’m aware. But it’s dumb having posters suggest if they don’t, they can still win a natty. That’s insane thinking. Hurleys going to replace him if they need to, him doing that suggests the staff doesn’t think they would be good enough if they don’t fill that spot.

The biggest roster decision is if Alex returns or not. Them hosting Smith, kicking the tires on other portal players suggest they feel they need to upgrade the talent on the roster. It’s a full court press on high level forwards if Alex goes to the NBA. If he doesn’t, they’ll look after another swingman front court player and be done (assuming they get a commit from a player like Smith).

If your plan is to correct every insane post on this forum you won't have time for anything else

It's the principle of the thing. What was your perspective pre 2011 and 2014?

I get that everyone loves to act like they know exactly what will happen, but I certainly don't. And that includes not counting them out of a championship.

So if he is 6th man we win?
If he is the sixth man, it means we grabbed a stud SF and either Karaban stays or we grab a stud PF as well.

I think AK is coming back. If he doesn't come back we're going to replace him with a really good forward replacement. As it stands now I think we're better positioned than just about anyone in the country in terms of going after a title next season.

Our roster today is not winning a championship, but luckily it's April 13 and we're going to add 3+ more pieces. Our roster today is also better than all but a handful of teams, so it's not crazy to think we're a championship caliber team
Supposedly we were championship caliber this last preseason, top 5.

Tarris Reed as a junior = Adama as a sophomore. He just hadn't had enough good coaching to make the leap to star. His per-40 stats are quite similar to Adama's sophomore season... Reed had a much better offensive rating, %s, more blocks and more rebounds, and more assists... but fouled more and had a little bit less effective DRTG. He's probably a bit ahead of sophomore Adama.

I think every statistical indication is there (plus the eye test) that Reed is poised to make a MASSIVE leap. The difference between his sophomore season at UM and junior season in Storrs is already staggering. Tarris Reed Jr. College Stats | College Basketball at Sports-Reference.com... He's ready to become a championship-caliber center.

Sanogo per-40 sophomore:

20.2 PPG
12.1 RPG
1.4 APG

3.2 TO
1.2 STL
2.6 BLK
4.0 PF

51% FG
69% FT (4.8 attempts)

108 ORTG
93 DRTG

VS.

Reed

19.3 PPG
14.6 RPG
2.1 APG

2.4 TO
1.3 STL
3.2 BLK
5.5 PF

57% FG
64% FT (5.8 attempts)

131 ORTG
96 DRTG

Red was 67% from the floor compared to Sanogo's 51%. Typo that I can't fix now

Every year posters project a player based on what they've already seen from that player and then every season there are players who improve and take a big leap. I'm sure at this time last season you weren't sold on Solo Ball being the starting 2 guard and averaging almost 15 ppg.
Many people like a zero sum game - if someone wins, someone else has to lose a corresponding amount. Or, in basketball terms, once you've seen a sampling of someone that's who they will always be. Wasn't a game changer as a freshman? Well, recruit over 'em, they ain't no good. Growth, development, experience, diligent practice, confidence, coaching never enter the equation.

So if he is 6th man we win?
I think the Uconn roster has some questions in the sense that we have a lot of new pieces coming in and we're banking on existing pieces taking a step up. Guess what, many teams are in the same position. It's foolish to me to think we don't have a championship caliber team or to think we're going to be the #1 team in the nation. We don't know at this point. My take:
  • AK: If AK goes, we need a high quality PF to replace him. The longer he waits, the more he compromises us so I hope he makes a decision quickly.
  • Roster: Provided the above is managed well and we get a backup PG, the roster seems legit top 10-15 at the least, what we don't know is how good everyone will be next year which will separate us from a top 1a-1b-1c team versus top 15 team.
  • JStew: He's the biggest x-factor to me. An incredible athlete who we're waiting to break out and find consistency of play. Tarris #2 in that respect. I expect more consistency and impact out of Solo, excited to see how much Mullins will do and the other frosh will contribute. Really excited about the new PG.
  • Reibe: Does Hurley plan to use him at the #4 sometimes, maybe as a backup? Interesting possibilities there, particularly with the way Hurley has created those multiple offensive teams and plans in the past.

Reminder: Karaban is staying until he announces otherwise. There is no IF.

i'm tired of babysitting every damn thread until he announces his intentions. So just assume that he is staying and don't bother speculating.

That's not the reality. This is a forum that is literally about the portal and its been documented that Hurley is talking to power forwards in the portal as replacements, and that Alex is considering leaving. Why would you ignore what's going on?

Isn't this one different though? This isn't Mahaney deciding to give it another go or head back west.

AK is very publicly weighing the NBA or staying in Storrs.
