2025 Transfer Portal - UConn Interest Only

I have no idea who is going to pan out next year and who isn't. But my gut tells me the following:
  • Mullins will not be on the bench for long stretches. When you shoot 45% from 3 on high volume, your rear end is on the court
  • Reibe will have to have a real high BBIQ to not get in foul trouble while he is so skinny. I think he will be find offensively, but as a back up to the Bear? I think we need another body.
  • No idea about the Aussie
  • But my intrigue is with Adams. There is something about him. A quite killer type vibe I get with him. I dont know if he will be another Aidan, or another Rip. You know, skinny kid whose engine does not allow him to fail. We shall see!
Adams definitely has skills. We'll see if he has an engine that will get and keep him on the court for any meaningful minutes.

Is Reibe chopped liver? He’s supposed to be the backup C.

First Furphy then Adams now Reibe. I vowed not to complain about returning players being recruited over but recruiting over incoming frosh is different

I was a bit awkward in how I worded it. I'll assume either Reed Jr or Reibe are on the court but not with at the same time. I was trying to say I want a second body who is physical and can play alongside either Reed or Reibe.

I believe that Dan Hurley ideally would cap any player's minutes at ~28 per game if the possibility exists. In 22-23 Karaban was he only player who exceeded that number and that was because we had no true backup 4 (we played quite a bit of four guard when AK was resting).

It would not surprise me at all to see Ball (and every other starter) average 27-28 minutes per game if the freshmen are able to contribute ten or so minutes each.
I don't see AK ever going back below 30 minutes if he returns next season

I dont think so, it has to be factored in that elite recruits will need minutes if we want to retain them and we need to retain elite recruits to win national championships
I'm saying that worrying that a guy who hasn't even arrived on campus yet isn't going to get enough minutes and will transfer is making a whole lot of assumptions based on not very much.

It's possible you're getting just a little bit ahead of yourself here
It’s a tough spot for Hurley..you don’t want to go into the season without at least two quality point guards… but at the same time you want to give the freshmen a chance to play though mistakes..if we get another high level point guard.. playing time is going to be hard to come by

You play for the season in front of you and at UConn that means you play to win a national championship every season. Fingers crossed we close on Malachi Smith this weekend.

I’m of firm belief at this point if Hurley feels a kid is worth holding onto he’ll find ways of making it work and keeping them. This year is proof enough.

not sure about that. They might not share the court if Hurley and the staff don't get from the portal that athletic, tough, big that can play the 4 or 5. But if they do get that aforementioned type player from the portal, I can easily see Reed Jr and Reibe sharing the court the same way Goldin Jr (Reed Jr) and Danny Wolf (Eric Reibe) did at Michigan this past year.

We’ve yet to see Hurley employ that, the two 5 lineup. I doubt he starts now unless Reibe is truly that good a 3 point shooter and can stretch the d. Anyone have his hs 3 pt %?

To counter that tho, the difference between winning the title next year and not could be having someone more experienced and ready to contribute in a point guard role next year. It’s a fine line and I don’t think forcing minutes on young people to keep them if they aren’t ready is the answer.

Our 2006-07 freshman group was Stanley (18th), Curtis Kelly (30th) and Dyson (36th).

We also had the 2011-12 group of Andre (2nd), Daniels (16th) and Boat (49th).

Both of those are pretty close!
I meant under Hurley

It’s paywalled information for a select group that chooses to support the NIL fund with monthly contributions. It’s not “out” in the sense that Smith told a reporter to tweet the info, the rules for getting this info early are so simple I’m astounded when people can’t follow them.
I’m a paying subscriber just never bother to log in. Are you telling me they said not to tell anyone else that Smith is visiting? And if so, until when? Saturday night after he’s spotted at Cap Grill? Just seems a bit cringe to gatekeep info for 48hrs. And like Kansashusky said maybe he heard it from someone that didn’t read it on SC

Slow your role on Reibe. Will be a very good player but don’t expect anything significant his freshman year. Will need a backup 4/5 from the portal. I olive down the street from Bullis and have seen him for a couple years.

Any update on a potential Smith visit? Things seem awfully quiet on the recruiting/roster front for UConn past two days.

Nah we saw Reed with Johnson for about 4 shining minutes early last season.
