2025 Transfer Portal - UConn Interest Only

Just a hunch, but it feels like we reached out and would maybe back off him now that Ross is returning. Same role (different body types, but same role). He’s definitely not a point guard - assist to TO ratio is below 1.0.

The same skill set and experience as a 1 or a 4 coming off the bench would be a better fit if a guy like that is out there.
Hassan Diarra didn’t have a great assist to TO ratio at A&M (even though they had different roles).

Would love this guy as an extra ballhandler off the bench at the 1.

No clue, he hasn't played in a year with a foot injury last Fall. He would be in year 7 in college.

Dude has been a starter at three different schools in the same conference. That's impressive.

Regardless of Alex staying or leaving, still need a solid big who can play tje 4/5 for 15-20 mpg.

Can't go in to the season with Alex or Stew being the second biggest guy on the roster.

Now we're cookin'. Probably one of the better "6th-man" PGs left in the portal (if he'll come and play that role for us here).

Dig it.

Small guard at 6'0, but he is versatile enough to be a pure PG (14th highest assist rate in the nation, 2.5 A:TO), but shoots well enough from deep (39%) to play off ball and is also capable at getting to the rim (347th highest FTRate nationally). He can be the backup PG and also play alongside Demary. If Demary even gets hurt, Smith would easily slot in as the starting PG.

23-24 MAC defensive player of the year. Guy is built like a tank.
you are not joking. I looked him up on ESPN expecting to see that he was a power forward as his height wasn't listed on the Twitter announcement and then saw he is 6,3 guard.

One year of eligibility left?

What's interesting that I noticed, as I am sure you and others have noticed, is that Georgia is the other school having a Zoom call with Malachi. Hmmm......

I think there is a good chance Silas could be the host on the call along with the coaches and perhaps assist with the coaches on convincing Malachi to choose UConn over Georgia.

Lol what if we took both of Georgia's point guards
IIRC, Georgia "stole" Mike White from Florida. Florida was dumping White to replace him with Todd Golden. How did that work out (minus a few co-eds)?

Just one of those weird rivalry scenarios. In Georgia's and White's defense, they have recruited well and done far better under White. Hard to get over the hump when you can't keep foundational players like Silas Demery though.

Malachi didn't have a very good game against us (but Posh certainly did!)
The good news for him is that he wouldn't have to play us again! He would get to face Marquette again (11 assists, one turnover - although he shot 3-10).

Maybe he's not exactly a perfect fit - on defense, especially - but I like the idea of a guard like this who can simply get us into offense on a day when maybe Demary is bothered by ball pressure (or just having an off night). Or also on a day when Demary has his shot going and he can play more off the ball for some possessions.

Smith has to like the idea of that role. Kimani is on record as telling Demary "there goes my point guard" - so Smith would have to want to have national championship aspirations as a reserve, as opposed to showcasing his skills as a starter somewhere. The fact he's on a Zoom at least means he's not opposed to the idea.

Luckily neither Alex nor Jaylin will be the second biggest guy on our roster
