-> Four games into his fourth season, coach Geoff Collins’ inability to lift Georgia Tech into a competitive realm has cost him not only what he often referred to as his dream job, but also likely the job of the man who hired him, athletic director Todd Stansbury. After the Yellow Jackets failed to show progress in their first four games this season, Collins is out of his job, and it’s likely that Stansburywill be, too, according to a person familiar with the situation.
A special meeting of the Georgia Tech Athletic Association board was called for Monday afternoon, a school spokesman told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Sunday.
Both decisions could be formalized then. Who will step in for Collins as interim head coach and who could be an interim AD is uncertain. Stansbury’s second in command is deputy AD Mark Rountree.
Offensive coordinator Chip Long and offensive-line coach Brent Key would seem logical possibilities to lead the Jackets over the final eight games of the regular season. Tech’s next game comes at 8 p.m. Saturday at Pitt. <-
