Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Sometimes coaches choose kids as their guy for their own reasons, talent aside. RE wasn't the first or last coach to do that.

Agree, coaches are not going to get talent evaluation right 100% of the time. But, presumably, if these coaches are sticking around at the elite programs they are pretty good at talent assessment. The majority of the time the kids that don't get on the field are the kids who are less talented.

With the way things are going in Boise State nowadays, don't be surprised to see Harsin end back up there again...I believe he had a ton of success over his tenure there... and he's still pretty young...

Chryst's firing is surprising. He averaged 10 wins per season (excluding COVID year) and he was 9-4 last year and 6-3 in the Big 10. I guess losing to Illinois with former Wisconsin coach Bielema was too much to bear.

Was out in Madison at the game ( son is a Badger grad ) and the faithful turned faithless after the 3rd embarassing performance of the year... Lost to Washington St, were blasted and overmatched by by THE Ohio State last week and now the cherry on top of the whipped cream losing to Brett Bielma in Madison by alot...

Too much for anyone to swallow...last couple of years the record has been good but with talent they had he clearly had them underperforming..

I disagree. Wisconsin has historically over achieved given their recruiting. Here are their recruiting classes since 2017:

2017: 38 (7th in Big 10)
2018: 46 (9th in Big 10)
2019: 30 (6th in Big 10)
2020: 27 (5th in Big 10)
2021: 16. (3rd in Big 10)
2022: 41 (11th in Big 10)

Average recruiting ranking = 33 (7th in Big 10)

If the expectation is 10 wins and top 10 rankings, Wisconsin is a very tough job. The state of Wisconsin produces linemen, but not skill players so the Wisconsin way has been a physical run team. That is how they have won with limited (for a P5 team) skill talent. If people want Wisconsin to shift to a modern offense (like Nebraska tried with Bill Callahan), they will probably be disappointed.

The pressure to win at top schools is incredible. Michigan State, Nebraska, Wisconsin....all expect to be top teams in the B1G 10-Most Wisconsin fans want Jim Leonhard to be permanent coach. The budgets at these Universities are multiple times bigger than UConn's. Chryst might know football but his personality was as dry as parmesan cheese

The universities get paid whether they suck or are good. There is no pressure on them or their athletic programs other than the egos of their AD's and boosters.

In fact, the there are always going to be bottom feeders, mid tier and top level programs in every league. There is limited movement among the 3 levels. Wisconsin might get to the top briefly. Unlikely they will stay there. Nebraska is not likely. They sold out for the extra cash but lost access to their southwestern recruiting grounds. Now they need to convince people to go to Nebraska. FWIW, I suspect Texas will have a similar problem in the SEC. Nothing special about Texas there. They are the answer to which one doesn’t belong?
