Jaelyn Bates highlights from the Heart of Texas Showdown held last weekend (4/26-4/29).

Within the first 2-3 minutes, Jaelyn was fouled 3x on shots and didn't get any calls. She does a great job of absorbing contact and still putting the ball in the hoop.

Does anyone know if any other European players are on uconn’s radar. Someone told me they are interested in a 6’5” Finnish post who also happens to be good friends with Makurat. First I’ve heard of it.
Awak Kuier?

Bates is a good finisher also. I wish Geno would offer her.
Umm, she is 15 and just finished her freshman year of high school. I think Geno has plenty of time.

She is 17. Born 2001 and has been on multiple Eurobasket teams / competitions.

UConn just announced the signing of Evelyn Adebayo, a grad transfer from Murray State. Listed as a forward at 6’1”. Seems kind of small for a forward. Don’t know anything about her. Anyone in husky land ever hear of hear? If so, what’s the verdict. Things are moving rather quickly. I hope Geno isn’t sacrificing quality for quantity just to fill out roster spots.

At this point, he has the option to do that. He needs to fill out roster spots. Had he landed Horston, Jones, and Boston would he have taken Adebayo? Maybe, maybe not. She looks to be a good one too

Bob Corwin scouting report from Boo Williams:

Aaliyah Edwards, 6-2, forward, 2020, Kia Nurse Elite 17U EYBL Affiliate (Kingston, Ontario, Canada) MVP

A high-level Power 5 recruit with explosiveness, Edwards can create a shot inside the key or on the perimeter. She was one of the most talented players in the Smith Division if not the most. Edwards helped lead her team to the Smith title thus earning MVP status.

She plays for the Kia Nurse Elite team. I assume she knows who Kia Nurse is.

UConn certainly seems to be in a good recruiting position for Edwards with her affiliation with Kia Nurse's team.................she's a great example of a Canadian player that thrived in college and in international play.........

Adebayo is only here for one year, so it's only taking up a spot for this year when we are short on bodies. She has quite a few double doubles and seems to be pretty physical so that would help a lot.

It is not that hard to understand. I can guarantee you that the coaches POV is completely different than mine. I.e., I COULD BE COMPLETELY WRONG about her-this would not be the first time. I will fully embrace her if and when she becomes a UCONN Husky. Until then, IMO there are better UCONN fits in this class at that position.
Coco, which players, in your opinion, are better fits at the 3,4 positions?

After watching some film I think Geno should make a strong effort to recruit Finnish star Awak Kuler. She reminds me a little like A’ja Wilson from South Carolina. She is 6’5”, can dunk, but also has a decent shot as well. Put her at the top of the key where she can see over everyone and pass like Stephanie Dolson did. I understand she is good friends with either Nika Mühl or Anna Makurat.

Does anyone know why UConn did not push harder to get Laeticia Amihere? In any case, the Cadanian spot left open by Kia Nurse is still available. Perhaps Aaliyah Edwards can fill it.

Uconn was in on Ezi Magbegor who turned pro and Aliyah Boston who turned South Carolina.

And SC wound up with both Aimhere and Boston. Seems like we blew it. I would have offered all three and taken the first two who committed

Kuier is extremely raw at this point! She certainly has the size, wingspan, and athleticism to be a very good player in the future, but right now, she is very raw and lacks any polish to her game. She also needs to hit the weight room and add some bulk onto her extremely thin frame.

She’s a work in progress. I’m sure CD can work with her just as she has with all the other great UConn post players. At 6’5” with the ability to dunk and control the lane on defense, she is certainly worth a shot.
