Refresh of my 10/9 post. Bold = uncommitted prospect. Yes, I have taken a stab at position placement.

Major edit to this post at 1218am.

On its surface it seems we have just 7 slots left to get to 25. However, I believe Ofori-Nyadu as a mid year enrollee will count towards the 2017 cap. Looking back, I think we have 24 enrollees from the 2017 class before Ofori-Nyadu after accounting for Zavier Scott, Santana Sterling and Eli Thomas (with Fortt actually counting towards 2016 as a mid year enrollee). I believe adding Ofori-Nyadu to the 2017 limit, puts as at 25 for that cycle (PS no idea what any of this means for Mason Donaldson who I don't have as part of either the 2017 or 2018 class with respect to this limitation).

This is all based on this story I found here about the 25 space annual cap and the ability to tap unused prior year slots and how mid year enrollment is treated.

So the net-net is that I think we have 8 slots still remaining which I'm guessing will be distributed as 2 RBs, 1 TE, 3 DL and based on our recent offers, 2 more OL.


QB - 1 - Krajewski
RB - 3 - Gillespie, two of Smoke/McDuffie/Wells/Chuckwuneke (how about Clayton Scott - Millville NJ - remember him?) or Jo El-Shaw (former Syracuse 3 star commit now at Lackawanna)
OL - 5 - Rooney, Maloney, Nyadu, Jefferson or Beebe (for center position), and perhasp one of or Niedrowski, Moran or Ingle.
WR - 3 - Jeffreys, Robinson, Maurisseasu-ONeil,
TE - 2 - Bemiy (looking at his early 2018 tape, still looks like an offensive player to me, playing RB and TE this year) plus one of Brayden Willis, Corey Thomas (former WV commit now at ASA Juco in Brooklyn) or Casey Rogers.
DL - 5 - Pace, T. Jones (or place him on OL), two of McCracken/Choloh/Daley/Welshcof/Turay + a tbd JUCO transfer.
LB - 4 - K. Jones, Harris, Webb, E. Thomas (Juco - already on campus)
DB - 4 - Banks, Morrison, Carroll, Lazarus
total = 27*
*Total includes Eli Thomas and Ofori-Nyadu who counts towards the 2017 annual cap as early enrollees.

  • Maybe the staff should be looking at Clayton Scott for RB. Has some nice plays at DB too.
247 has Clayton Scott as a Rutgers heavy lean.

  • Next big targets seem to be McCracken and Daley, both of whom are visiting this fall. Plus the Welshcof stakes should be know by end of the month (probably going P5).

  • I love Turay's tape and size, but he seems to have several p5 suitors, so doesn't he seem likely at all.

Another follow up. I forgot about the Australian punter got a late scholarship, and Rose as well. I know we didn't take the full 25 in 2016, so some of those slots carry forward to 2017, but at this point it seems too difficult to track. That said, if we had 18 new kids in 2017 (counting Fortt as 2016 kid because of early enrollment), and we added; Rose, Mensah, Scott, E. Thomas, the Punter and Ofori-Nyadu, that brings us to 24 for the 2017 class. That also gives room for Donaldson to get a scholarship as part of the 2017 class to bring us to 25.

Bottomline, if I have this right, we can effectively take 27 kids this cycle when including Ofori-Nyadu and Eli Thomas as part of the 27 because they count against the 2017 cap.

Am I missing anyone?

Not that I’ve seen - it’s strange. I mean even if people are believing that he ends up @ Cornell for Lax, you’d think someone would take a flyer on him.

I was under the impression that he PG'd just to focus on football. Maybe that wasn't true, but that's what I heard. someone tweet corey his hudl tape

The kid owns the CT record for receptions. Now he's putting up huge numbers at Avon Old farms. Not just speed, but his route running is spectacular.
I heard he wants to play football. I see a bigger, stronger Nick Williams.

I think his dad was a catcher for UCONN back in the day.

Yeah he was. I played with "Rags" back when I was at UConn. I also went to NDWH and have followed his son Nico for the past few years. There is no doubt in my mind that he could be a solid WR at the D1 level. Incredibly smart, runs crisp routes, strong, great hands, and knows how to get open. The only hiccup could be that he is also a hell of a lacrosse player and originally was looking to focus on that in college.
 
Three thoughts on Ragaini.

i) We already have three WR commits this cycle, so maybe we could convince him to be a PWO as an instate kid with a 2019 scholarship.
ii) When you scout him in person you also get to watch Casey Rogers DE/TE. Rogers is the highest rated recruit uncommitted in CT per the recruiting sites.
iii) Its going to suck if he somehow ends up at a different AAC school (ahem - Temple!).
 
You want to see a kid dominate at the HS/Prep level and Nico Ragaini is the epitome of that. Kids just weren't at his level: speed, power, elusive, hands. You looked that film and none of the other kids looked near the same level.

I posted once before. I coach in the SCC. Kid dominated arguably the best conference in state for two years. Look at what he did to New Canaan in playoffs junior and senior year. They could not stop him. Better football player than any of the cap prep kids (who clearly play against inferior competition). Like what RE and staff are doing but this one make sure me shake my head. BTW, GREAT kid and family.

While, they arent similar players, this reminds me of when Tyler Matekevich wasn't offered.
I know Tyler had to go to Milford Academy to get his grades up. Nico didnt need to do that.
It will be extremely disappointing if this staff lets him get away.

Can you confirm that Ragaini has interest in UConn and has not been offered (yet)? You mentioned that you were told he has a BC offer but that hasn’t been noted anywhere in the recruiting sites/social media/training academy channels that I’ve seen/heard (don’t mistake that as not believing you). Is NR not publicly advertising his next stage options - always seemed like a humble kid. Seems strange w/ all the schools that have cycled through AOF - no offers leaking out?

Maybe, but I'll take a few defensive linemen if we can get them based on what we've seen from the current non-seniors.

I figure we have a real shot at McCracken and Daley. And I am still betting we place Travis Jones at DT and we take four dlineman this cycle.

So yeah, I do view this offer as a sign we are out on Turay, Welshcof, Choloh, etc. Happy to be wrong. This Canadian kid has a pretty strong tape - not really diamond in the rough, more like diamond from afar.
