Updated "Nine seats left hypothetical" - A rather impossible attempt to read the tea leaves on the remainder of the recruiting class and the permutations that may come about in the months ahead. I shifted from 5 LBs to 5 DL. One only took one DL last year, so time to play catch up.
1) Josh Jefferson OG/C or Landon Beebe OC who is planning a visit this fall- We need a center.
Need two DEs - so maybe 2 of the following 3:
2a) Julius Welschof DE - the #1 European prospect who visited our campus this summer. We need to rebuild the Dline ASAP.
2b) Lancine Turay DE - we have visited him in school, has tweeted our offer. This is a long shot as Rutty appears to be favored.
2c) Casey Rogers DE/TE - the Syracuse kid is doing a PG year at Avon Old Farms. He's visited UConn this summer, but also went to Alabama and Michigan. It doesn't appear that we have officially offered him. 4.7 speed with a big frame. My hunch, we are waiting a bit longer on Welschof and to see the senior campaigns of some of these prospects before making more offers at DE. Since the kid will be in our market all fall, if we have a good season, I'd like to think there is a reasonable chance here.
4) Krajewski QB - has us a high choice. UConn vs Syracuse.
5) Kylen McCracken DT - retweeted our offer, mostly G5 for other offers. We need a true interior Dlineman. After Fatusaki, it seems all we have is Murphy, then maybe Caleb Thomas. Alternatives would be Will Choloh and Damian Daley. I like McCracken the most of the three, but would be happy to have any of them.
6) Brayden Willis TE - feels like a long shot at this point, but its the best looking TE prospect I have seen that isn't flooded with P5 offers. Love his tape.
7) Noel Ofori-Nyadu OL - mostly G5 for other offers. Great balance- already playing against big boys in TX football.
8) Christian Izien RB - camped with us in July, terrific speed and excellent receiver. I really want this kid.
9) Kavosiey Smoke RB - here we go again pursuing an RB from the deep south. Smoke figures to be more a power runner at 6ft / 210lbs. If we dont land a power back, then for the time being I like either Chris Chukwuneke (doing a PG year) or Chris Wells, both are compact -make you miss - RBs.
If we strike out at DE, DT, RB or TE this fall, I could see us engineering one extra scholarship for a JUCO/transfers in the spring/summer of 2018 to fill the void.
Speculative placement of players by position - yes I have moved some players around:
QB - 1 - Krajewski
RB - 3 - Gillespie, Izien and one of Smoke/Wells/Chuckwuneke
OL - 4 - Rooney, Maloney, Jefferson or Beebe, Nyadu
WR - 3 - Jeffreys, Robinson, Maurisseasu-ONeil,
TE - 1 - Willis (or Casey Rogers)
DL - 5 - T. Jones (or place him on OL), Bemiy (or place him at TE), McCracken (or Choloh or Daley), and two of Welshcof, Turay and Casey Rogers
LB - 4 - K. Jones, Harris, Webb, Thomas (Juco)
DB - 4 - Banks, Morrison, Carroll, Lazarus
Other guys out there to watch:
-Brian Asamoah at LB - an ohio recruit with lots of P5 suiters, just dont seem him coming here given all the better offers.
-Will Choloh or Damian Daley at DT - looks like we might have a bit more traction with Choloh at this point.
-Myjai Sanders at DE - we have made an offer / has many pursuers.
-Michael Taylor - DE - has visited UConn. A strong senior campaign may boost G5 interest.
-Rondell Bothyod - DE from EO Smith. Can we flip this three star kid? I would love to do that to Temple.
-Robert Snead - LB - visited in April. Has an explosive tape for four games last year before getting injured. A big fall could make him interesting.
-Dequan Jackson - LB - maybe he could be a Marvin Washington like recruit in this cycle. The FL kid that feels like his FL schools are too crowded with fellow FL kids.
-Eriq Giluard LB - one time Maryland commit is a heavy UCF lean. This kid is an MLB tackling machine. Would love to have him - put unless we have another Marvin Washington moment, this kid is P5 bound.
-Where does Dez Boykin WR land? Fast WR did vist last spring...but we seem to be all stocked up at this position.
