We're also looking at Luke Knox I think...out of Tennessee. Lashlee and Wholley following him recently. 3 star with offers from Air Force and Navy

What I am always interested to see is the follows and follow backs. If a player follows back multiple people on our recruiting staff (coaches, recruiting coordinators) and did so relatively recently, then it seems like there is some mutual interest.

Where did you hear we are targeting him? Maurice Lloyd and James Hargrave where to smallish linebackers we're very productive for us. I take more guys like that in a heartbeat.
just reading the twitter tea leaves (follows/counter follows - all recent) and the fact Ulofoshio based on his limited offers seems like a reachable player for us. I think the staff wanted Plack, but now its moving quickly to the next option.

One of his most recent follows is Lashlee. Haven't watched his tape or anything. I'd wanna take the Gorman kid just because he plays at such a high level

All this personal research you guys are doing has me feeling like a proud papa... (lol).. I was doing this back in the Edsall 1.0 days and you guys thought I was nuts... but now, now... you see the light... Refreshing....

On a serious note, there's no reason why these kids that could probably provide immediate help to our program want to look elsewhere than beautiful Storrs CT... Opportunity awaits....

This is an Edsall RKG kid I'm sure.. with those type of offers... #REStorred

For that last LB spot, we appear to be looking into Jeffrey Ulofoshio out at bishop Gorman in Las Vegas. He looks a bit small, but plays with tenacity.

Al Fincher 2.0 ... That's what we want here in Storrs

Knox is from a middle TN football power. Brentwood Academy has several 4 stars this year and has produced a bunch of P-5 players over the last decade. Knox played next to Jack Sirmon a 4-star Washington commit. Played against a high level of competition and has been coached well. By going to Brentwood Academy tons of recruiters have seen him play, which begs to ask where are the FBS or G-5 offers. His brother walked on at Ole Miss and became their starting TE. The thought may be that he will follow in his brother's footsteps to walk-on at an SEC school rather than take a scholly from an Academy, G5 or FBS.

Nice to see that Lashlee is at least dipping into the Middle TN recruiting as the football talent is exploding along with the population growth.

You can make the same points regarding Jeffrey Ulofoshio about coming up short on offers while playing at a school with plenty of scouts.

He's going to be Edsall's Ryan Gomes or Kris Dunn

I’ve said it before... it’s not like he or the two programs he’s played for are unknown entities in football circles. I can’t help but wonder why he’s got no real publicly known options at this point. Boggling.

Has he been offered anywhere? Who knows what the deal is. Character issue? Not implying that, but there are a million reasons we'd pass that fans wouldn't be privy to

Does he really? I didn't know that--I've just been checking via twitter but I guess he doesnt announce offers there. Could just be that we're set at WR too? Who knows. That is probably our deepest position group and is also full of young guys

He was the best player in Connecticut for two years in a row and then he went and tore it up at Avon Old Farms. He's a great student (National Honors Society) and was going to play D1 lacrosse so he's definitely a good enough athlete. I really don't understand.

By saying "Character issue?" you aren't implying that? Of all the "million reasons" you pick that one yet you are "Not implying that,".

I'd take this kid as an athlete if nothing else. Great hands catcher that doesn't break stride.

Could we be looking to Blueshirt Ragiani? We are up against the 25 annual scholarship cap (will be at the cap after we add 2OL, 1DL, 1LB, 1RB and 2DBs and 5th year senior transfers and select other transfer don't count against this cap) and we have more urgent needs at every position other than WR.

Explaining grayshirting, blueshirting and more

Blueshirting wasn't used until recently, and it still isn't common, but it's essentially another loophole to get around oversigning.

The blueshirt rule allows schools to put "unrecruited" athletes on scholarship once they arrive on campus, but count them against the next year's scholarship total, as long as they don't play. Here's what it means to be "recruited," according to the NCAA:

  • Was provided an official visit to the campus;
  • Had arranged, in-person, off-campus contact with a coach; or
  • Was sent an NLI or other written scholarship offer.
Coaches can contact players and have them on campus for unofficial visits — when the recruits pay their ways — without technically recruiting them. Essentially, as long as a recruit doesn't take an official visit or host one of that school's coaches, he wasn't "recruited" by that school.

Here are the two different home recaps of the Avon - Choate game this past mid November
Seemed like Casey Rogers was in position on the DL to be more dominate than he actual was. Lucien's game looked quiet, didn't throw towards him in the highlights. Some of Phommachanh's throws were late.

I think this was Avon's only loss of the year, losing 48-27.

Notables:
Nico #11 in red
Lucien #6 in white.
Phommachanh #3 in red as QB
Casey Rogers #99 in red on DL and as TE.

Only character issue he has is that he's a stud lacrosse player who verballed as a sophomore. I've been touting the kid for 3 years, but gave up

Recap: Choate Rosemary Hall vs. Avon Old Farms School 2017

I was at that game. Good news for us is the quiet game #6 had was pretty much what I heard happened all year. Teams generally stayed away from him. He played to the boundary and matched up with their main guy Marquis Wilson (offered by PSU, Maryland, Rutgers). He shut him down. They started off with a few bubble screens that got no yards. Afterwards, their QB would look Lucien’s way then quickly try and go through his progressions away from him. Nico played well. The catches he had were primarily a result of Avon’s QB scrambling and extending plays which is always tough on DB’s. Definitely a good slot type receiver. I don’t necessarily agree that he has P5 speed. The way Lucien smothered Wilson I would surmise that a bigger faster corner such as him would have made it tough for Nico. Perhaps that’s what RE2 is thinking? Just a guess.
The Erickson League that Avon plays in has marginal corners at best. Definitely the weaker of the divisions as Choate has dominated every team they played en route to their four consecutive championships.
