I still can't understand why Dicko didn't have the former players all over the place. Nothing is more big time than having the 20+ former NFL players come around.

Zach is a perfect example of RE 1.0 and how he got players to play above their level. No NFL but he surely was a very good BCS level player.
He hung on with my Raiders for a short time. Might have only been practice squad but he was in NFL camp.

Or it's door #3. Lacking the ability to assess talent at the high school level and combining that with an inability to coach them up once they arrive. RE made a comment at the beginning of spring practice that was an indictment or the previous staff. He said that we have a bunch of waste benders as opposed to knee benders, that the kids needed to learn about balance. Those should be the basic skills at this level....thinking about our pass blocking over the last 3 years what RE said is clearly true.
This... watch some games and you can see our 300 pound guys upright, reaching with their upper bodies to block and getting out leveraged. Thor should have been a devastating blocker. He never used more than his upper body and he was continually out levered. Thats why we could even grind down or move a smaller Maine D front.

Think Jay Rose comes back and competes for the QB spot? Even at TE he can provide help.

SportzEdge: Randy Edsall says offensive line will be key to UConn’s success next season

>>During his first stop in Storrs, Edsall’s offense was built around the offensive line. This time is no different.

“If they just continue to work, and work on the fundamentals and techniques that are being taught, and get themselves in better shape…with that group, that has to be right for us to have any kind of success at all offensively.”<<

That's actually a pretty encouraging quote, much more than the prior ones from Edsall on the offensive line.

Nice one:

Clearest indication of fundamental change taking place mentally and physically on the OL. Wouldn't surprise me if they are clearly worse than last year at this point, but they had to take a step back to move forward. Now we move from adjustment to advancement and we'll see who can effectively transition. Somebody is probably gonna step forward, maybe Hashemi or a guy who was written off by the old staff because he didn't fit the profile. Again, wouldn't be surprised.

I dare everyone to watch this and not be pumped up for this coming season. I know we've said the same with past coaching changes. This has a completely different feel, the normal UConn feel from Edsall years past. Let's go!!!
I love hearing the southern accents. Damn, it's like a little piece of the SEC in New England.

I'm all in for the Hashemis & Schafenackers finally cracking the OL if thats the right formula that gets our offense rolling. At this point you gotta believe whatever it takes (within reason of course)

Meh. What I have heard so far, reading between the lines, is that the new staff is appalled at the OL. So until we see real progress in that area, I personally will reserve judgement that they show that they know how to fix it in just a few months. Doubt it can happen that quickly but I will be over the moon if it does.

So you're saying that with CR UConn will become the Arctic outlier of SEC expansion? Works for me.:rolleyes:
