UConn stats... 10 reasons Ashlynn may start...(again)

Fudd should come off the bench??? Have you ever seen her play? Or, shoot? Fund’s shooting ability is rare - and her basketball skills the same…she’s a starter and star on any team - she made need a game or two to get her legs under her, but, she’ll be a star with playing time.

UConn stats... 10 reasons Ashlynn may start...(again)

Agreed…but, the most important reason she’ll start, from Geno’s lips, on more than one occasion: “I trust her”!

Tennessee parts ways with Kellie (Jolly) Harper [merged thread]

While he is newly hired, leaving out Brooks is a mistake. Believe you'll see Kentucky giving Staley fits as soon as year 2-3. Believe it or not, the template for hiring an outstanding coach is already there. Set by Wes Moore, Kenny Brooks, and as he's showing at W. Va, Mark Kellogg. And, one...

Top 3 Things You Want To See Against Syracuse on Monday At 6:00 p.m.

Love your two points; 1) Position for rebounds…in both Cuse victories over the Irish they handily won the rebounding battle..we NEED to take care of that, and 2) Can’t allow the guards to penetrate….that’s one way Fair gets many of her points…in the lane…if we can simply “keep her in front of...

Number one reason for the 5 losses

Did you watch the IOWA - SC game? If so, you may have noticed that IOWA employed a sagging match up zone most of the game...that greatly limited the effectiveness of the pass into the post. Simply put, and most knowledgeable basketball observers admitted, Staley was simply outcoached by Lisa...

Number one reason for the 5 losses

While Phillycoach did an excellent job of providing some important stats of the “why” we lost those games, and the importance of shot making, Charlieball’s “other“ factors can’t be ignored, especially the importance of having an inside game (yes, that means more than just Aaliyah). And, one...

    UConn - SC post game

You are spot on - can't tell you how many times Hurley's team has come to mind, when considering what I wish the women were doing...especially their constant motion, use of crisp cuts around screens, but especially their aggressiveness and play around the basket...but, you've got to have the...

    UConn - SC post game

I’ll simply ask what one of my favorite movie characters, Robert McCall, asks those that have been punished by others: “What are you going to do about it?”

Top 3 Things You Want To See Sunday At South Carolina

    1. Rebounds 2. Rebounds 3. Limit their entry pass, especially to the low post

    UConn has an advantage

Important point…winning takes care of lots of issues…including attracting recruits…hard to substitute for the certainty, or near certainty, that you’ll be one of the Final Four teams standing…what recruit wouldn’t want to be there? Would echo Rowdy’s thoughts on coaches. Lastly, love the...

    Frontcourt Strength

Good overview.....except SC ...from the portal Staley snagged junior college player of the year, 6'5" Sakima Walker. The difference is, Geno's gameplan/strategy, doesn't depend on bigs win games, Staley's does.

    Frontcourt Strength

    Ooops, my mistake, meant Cardoso

    Frontcourt Strength

Actually Del Rosario is listed at 6'7" on USC's website Roster. Having seen her numerous times, I'd say she's a good 6'6". Secondly, since Staley's strategy always seems to be based on the old Summit method of throwing it up there and outrebounding the opposition, from the portal she snagged...

    Spence vs. Crawford

Agreed…not just better, a very smart boxer as well. Should be a good one, but Crawford never seems to tire before his opponents.

Jana - In Madrid - FIBA Games

Agreed, and posted this in December….”Her footwork and ball skills reminds me of another recent big we had...you may remember her by her nickname -"Stewie"...although Jana's 3 point shooting form is not quite like Stewie's (and hers was classic, high release), her back to the basket and inside...

    Hmmm…6’5” with great athleticism….:D

Jana - In Madrid - FIBA Games

Jabstep - good points - she brings a few skills to the table we haven’t seen from our bigs (6’4” aNd above”), in a while, and that includes a pretty good handle. Her court vision is also good, and on a UCONN team, that’s ideal! Will stick with what I said back in April after seeing some of her...

    Iowa beats South Carolina!

Agree with you on Coach Bluder. Great game plan...listening to Caitlin Clark's post game comments on their offensive strategy of pulling SC's bigs away from the basket & the effectiveness of the screen/pick & roll action were keys offensively (of course, it helps when you've got a "smart" ball...

    Recruiting Bigs

HuskyNan - appreciate all you've done and do over the years, and realize, like, all of us, you have your sensitive spots. My admiration for the job Geno and the staff have done, and our athletes, over the years is second to none. But, if you don't think height matters on the hardwood, well...

    Recruiting Bigs

Many of us have been banging that drum for years…and, to no avail….its great to have shooters, but, when the outside shot isn’t falling….well….its been a while since the Huskies have had a great balance inside and out…we continue to get shooters, but, lately, teams with bigs have caused us...

Game Analysis - UConn vs South Carolina

That would surprise me, Boston normally gets the Michael Jordan treatment…but, hoping for a tightly called game especially for Lou - our only true outside threat on the floor, who, I expect they’ll run ragged.
  28. J

    Geno on Lou

    Easy - suit up Jamelle;)
  29. J

    Defense beat Nova

I, too like our chances, on the condition we win the battle up front - rebounds, and limiting Boston’s touches. The opponents that have played them fairly close, did exactly that…or tried to. We can win the inside game, but, we have to be the more physical team (play like Jamelle!) the entire...

    Are they nasty yet?

I'll be convinced when we win the inside game against South Carolina - especially the rebounding battle, but, hopefully, scoring as well. We have to impose our will - then we will be nasty! But, our defense has improved a bunch since the beginning of the season for sure:D
