It is the let down when you and everyone else thought Uconn might beat Baylor. That too shall pass.
During his 30 plus years Geno has had great years and some not so great. Dynasty? Geno in the past has spoken often of how RECRUITS and good RECRUITING classes can make a coach look. He knows...
Tamika shot over 60 percent in college and in the W. Amazing. Geno when reminded, while she played for him, that she was scoring that high said: (ALONG THESE LINED) Anyone can score 60 percent when shooting from 2 feet. He should remind THIS team of the high percentages they should be...
Shots NOT thrown up are never made and I think that is GENO's point. When you make a few in a row in a game confidence goes up. You can't get your confidence BACK if you are deferring to upper or lower teammates. They had confidence before Uconn because both ANIA and AUBREY were very good...
Geno of course is right on Ania and Aubrey. Of course, at this time for a few games, he wants Ania an Aubrey to forget the teammates and be aggressive and start their OWN flow. Prove they can do it.!!!!
Once they are confident and within their own pulse then he can get them to play BASKETBALL...
Or a great week, depending upon where you are seated!! Not so much for 1's or 2's .
Well all these "Ncaa adjustment" may put Uconn back to 1 or 2. Not to shabby, huh?
Doesn't Genos comment sound like some you've been reading on the BY for 6 years---learn in Practice, polish it in games. You can't learn much on the bench. Teach on the bench, put them back , in teach again. If they have talent athleticism they are worth the effort.
Did you notice that Houston, as bad as they were, played Uconn even in the 2nd Qtr-- 19/19
Baylor Uconn won the first, lost the second, close the 3rd, blew out in the 4th.
Didn't this game have a feeling of "Anti-Climatic". It's a shame they didn't have a more talented team to play after Baylor. Nothing of real value to have learned in the Houston game. Yawn---
TRUE had Westbrook been cleared to play, she couldn't or maybe limited that's not what is needed this...
Geno and CD saw Olivia having trouble against Aggressive teams. When teams negate Olivia that takes away scoring and rebounding. That make the jobs of the other 3 (core) more demanding and difficult.
Point of that absurd wording is: The loss was predictable based on the previous 3 or 6...
Going by their Number 1 (undeserved) it WAS an up set! Geno and CD and Me said they didn't EARN the 2 ranking. Even intelligent posters shouted that down. There is NO SHAME is being beaten by a (that night) better team. The question, and it really matters naught, what will the Rank of Uconn...
Kayla was predictable and she played more than well. Baylor took Olivia out of HER game. It is not all in what a player can do or usually does--good defense takes that away. Uconn took away a lot of Baylors favorites in the first half, not so much in the second.
Uconn didn't "execute better because there was a good team on the floor with them. Uconn was well scouted and executed against. If Uconn had another AA or 2 it may have been different when 3 of the starting 5 does all the scoring that isnt a good night. Baylor had how many scoring --10??
The pressure to make was much greater for ALL. If she had nailed one in the first quarter (or taken one then) she may have replicated her great game. All in All she played way beyond the Irwin I had become to know. Kudo's to her a very very good game by Kyla, Aubrey, Ania they need to shoot...
Hey, I wasn't worried about Baylor neither and I'm still not worried about them. I don't worry about wins or losses. I don't worry about records, awards, notoriety. When you live in reality you rarely worry.
Its just a blankety blank game.
@oldude Someone on the BY has been harping on Uconn needs to make their layup's. Had they made half of them it could have been a win.
Then someone else said that Baylor would run out of energy in the 4th. That was Uconn. I and others said if ONO had less than 3 fouls in the 4th Uconn would...
@JoePgh is probably right on a lower scoring game, on the Baylor side. If Uconn can get it's share of Offensive boards and Olivia Nelson Ododa ends the game with 4 or less fouls (with 25 minutes or more) Uconn fans shall smile tomorrow. This won't be a Seaton Hall, or Wichita St game. Baylor...
The daily double is an "on purpose" to make sure there is a winner knowing all that participate, on a given day, can and most likely will answer all questions they are asked. Only a means of getting a winner --chance.
I enjoy the game and on some days can't answer the questions and some I can...
Is Paige on that list of Frosh NOT Starting?? That's not the vibes coming from Geno. If Evina stays you I believe are right Ania too but may not be a starter in January next year.
Megan is loyal and (guessing here) I don't think she or her family need the money so the only question left is where will she be in the draft next year or the year beyond. I have strong doubts about Megan. My doubts are not as strong with Evina. Ania will be a 4 year kid unless her career...
I'm revising my opinion of Baylor and Geno's possibilities of success. The BEARS are really beatable. Cox ain't so much. Their defense leaves a lot to be desired and offense is a dream of theirs.
Geno I thought was a tough side line coach--Mulkey makes Geno look like my long loved...
I'm not sure whom you consider Bench Players??? Certainly not Irwin, Ania, Aubrey they are not bench players they are the 5th, 6th, 7th person on any game and not necessarily in any order.
Also, I expect IRWIN to START. Why? The last game certainly but more than that she is a SENIOR with the...
Of all the things Geno says---this is the MOST RIGHT. They will get SMACKED around especially Walker and Nelson-Ododa. Mulkey will go after Griffin each time she has the ball, weakest link she may think, frosh.
Geno is preparing Fans for a loss---will he be surprised!!
I saw this yesterday. My take away was were 2 fold.:;
Paige's defense needs lots of work. Donarski is one heck of a 3 ball shooter and good passer.
A third this was that Paige was better at assists . Donarski seemed to want to score when she had the ball.
Size? It all depends on Olivia, Walker and Irwin in the post, Then Danger, CW, maybe Aubrey, Ania out a bit.
If Olivia can stay out of foul trouble for 30 minutes I like UC's Chances. As Olivia Goes so goes Uconn all the way to the NC if she protects the basket she'll take them far.
What you saw was the feeling of being abused. She has been physically beaten, pushed , pulled , bumped all the time and the fix is easy but not intuitive. She drops the ball and dribbles the ball where tiny tots can grab it or grab her in the process. It wears on a person. I except for the...
@JordyG I understand that! The number one team in the country SHAME--they will beat down on the Hapless USA team. I too feel bad for USA taking on UConn (number 1) at home. Just piling it on!!
