The SEC and B1G do not want us. That leaves the ACC and Big XII. They are holding on expansion because of the FSU and Clemson drama.
FSU and Clemson want out of the ACC; however, the SEC and B1G will not take them.
The ACC will invite us as backfill if Clemson, FSU, and/or Louisville/Cuse/Pitt...
...getting Pitt football back to name brand bowls like Sun and Peach, raising the profile of several non-revenue and Olympic sports like baseball and women's volleyball.
Apparently she's been going after B1G jobs, having interviewed with OSU and Northwestern. Maybe she'll unseat Warde Manuel ;)
That's not really what "performance" means unless you enter a contract with both sides agreeing to do the bare minimum required. When the contracts were signed there were 5 "Power" conferences and I'm sure the expectations were that both sides would perform as such. FSU did. The ACC and espn...
I think FSU is close to AAU and given USF was just admitted, I think it will happen soon for FSU.
That's where I was going. If FSU were to get out of the ACC and only the Big 12 wanted FSU, I think FSU would have to stay in the ACC. it would be kind of embarrassing to go through all that...
I agree. I think FSU would be a lock for one of them but many people have said FSU is not wanted. I don't know, I'm just regurgitating sheet.
edit: but there have been various reports suggesting FSU would not be invited under certain conditions.
"Neither the SEC or Big Ten are likely to pursue...
...to disappear or be relegated any more in Basketball than the B12 or ACC would be in a hypothetical P2 break-off (and obviously it's not like B1G is an option for us)
I would assume the push for a power-conference move seems to be more about remedying our AD deficit (the same deficit that is...
Happy that game is on FS1 down here in NC. My spectrum account does not get B1G network. So UNC is a no brainer for the B1G for the future.
Side note was pleasantly surprised that my spectrum package gets NESN so I can watch my beloved Redsox.
Call it unrealized potential. Thats where the AD’s objectives and performance comes into play. Like Rutgers or Northwestern versus Alabama or Florida State. Look at a 100 radius of Tallahassee- maybe that’s why B1G is in no rush to get them.
That's been argued before. Everyone knows that everyone in the ACC would prefer to leave for the B1G or SEC. I think FSU had to try to get out before it was too late because FSU is by far the most valuable player in the ACC. FSU may do other things which make them ugly, but trying to get out...
The announcers were terrible, I would have believed the opposite of everything they said. They didn’t even notice the fumble in the first quarter in real time. They were clearly B1G announcers, and team at that.
I hardly ever like seeing gov't and lawyers getting involved in sports but every college sports fan should be hoping they get involved in this. All of it's ripe for a mega antitrust case.
...if we kept the regional conferences for all the minor sports and just had football, men's and women's basketball and maybe baseball in the new B1G conference.
We already do something similar in hockey and it makes no sense to chase games against major opponents in sports that draw few fans...
The gap between EPL and The Championship is much bigger than the gap between SEC/B1G and Big XII/ACC. The gap between Man City and the bottom half of the EPL is still bigger than the gap we're talking about.
It's more like saying B1G is EPL. SEC is La Liga. ACC is Bundesliga and Big XII is...
We don't have a guaranteed rivalry in the BE either. Let's face it.
If the Big East grew to where the B1G is now, Syracuse would be pitted against Georgetown, Seton Hall vs. St. John's, and we'd get PC.
Also, it may be that PSU and USC chose one another for rivalries. We'll see in the future...
...Indiana. I feel slighted that I make less than a lot of athletes and celebs who are as dumb as a bag of hammers. If FSU had been in the SEC or B1G they probably wouldn't have been undefeated. Should they have made the playoff anyway? Yes, like TCU the year before. But that problem...
More like we don’t add enough value to the right conference. B1G took Rutgers (and Maryland) not because they were athletic powerhouses. B1G member schools have large alumni presence in NYC and Maryland. Four corner schools don’t have near that presence. What’s B1G presence in New England?
I also think it is possible the B12 is posturing now to give the President’s /AD’s cover to go back to their donors and say, “Look, we were also skeptical at first, but the plan Brett shared and the future numbers presented to us were too great to ignore”. Let us see how this plays out.
You are living in a dream world your contract comes up long before the ACC.
You also don't make as much money, and lost your 2 best teams to the SEC.
The Big12 will be picked apart at your new contract in 2031, if not before.
...highest ranked group of five conference champion will also receive an auto bid.
The reality is that there is a large stratification between the B1G/SEC and the B-12/ACC and it will grow. It will be rare if in any season the B1G/SEC won't combine for six or seven participants in the CFP and...
...and thought out article.
As these rounds of realignment have played out I've gone from wishing we'd been invited to the ACC to hoping the B1G's leadership would be as forward looking as Brett Yormark appears to have been.
If you look at college sports dominance overall, the B1G needs us...
White helmet with blue Block C with the blue stripe is THE classic look (think B1G!). Works well with every combo. The blue helmet with the white Block C with the white stripe is the next best choice.
Get rid of the "husky head" helmets from the past few years. They scream "G5"
This is one of the reasons I support the move. Our biggest rival right now is probably a team in Omaha. Changing that to a team in Lawrence isn’t any more geographically challenging. Our next closest rival now is in Milwaukee. Let’s not pretend that there are a bunch of great local rivalries...
Excellent points. I do think, though, that if the ACC wants to shore up basketball on the emEast Coast if they lose teams, most of those teams are in the Big East (besides UConn). That may be where the. Ig East has leverage.
This hayseed screwball thinks UConn fans are insecure after winning back to back championships. Get real.
I’ll say it again. What’s wrong with you dude? You come onto a teams message board with these clueless long boring narratives.
You are out of your mind if you think FSU is going pay exit...
Do you believe that the Big Ten itself has no input, only Fox? Extrapolating Yormarks belief that hoops in undervalued, the B1G may have more interest in jacking up the Basketball end of things than the B12. Yeah it’s quite a stretch, but these folks always are looking for where a buck might...
If the PAC-6 is no longer with us, the Big East is not safe.
Yes, the search for higher revenue streams is necessary to compete at a higher level.
You would be ok with $40M deficits to stay in big east? That’s insane. The entire athletic department is underperforming revenue rise with the main...
