OT: Younger than dirt? What’s your ‘70’s-80’s memories?

Thanks for the reply. It was over 50+ years ago but that does sound vaguely familiar. But it may just be that I've heard of Dillon Stadium before.
June 23, 1973 at Dillon Stadium in Hartford., according to internet search.

Well in middle 70s through early 80s,spent my time traveling all over the country. From Florida to California to Maine. And all between. And back then could stop and pick up work, to purchase gas and move on. Working in a cotton gyn, to off shore oil, to stock yards in Texas. Never no time schedule. Something I will always cherish.

I graduated in 1969 and moved to Cheshire the next year after getting married. We and our new friends started a ritual every Saturday night in the mid 70's. No matter what we had done earlier in the evening we would get together at someone's house and watch SNL. More often than not, totally wasted.

.-.
I saw Rocky in a theater in the Bronx. Much of the crowd was rooting for Apollo Creed. Seriously.
:)
Well, this is somewhere between older than dirt and younger than dirt. I remember seeing "Midway" in a theater in "Surround Sound". After getting the snot kicked out of them, when the first bomb hit the Japanese carrier, the entire audience jumped to their feet and cheered. I was blown away, not by the movie, by the audience.

Dillon Stadium: Eagles, Edgar Winter and Yes, one show, for $7.50. My first memorable concert. So much smoke. Yes had just come out with Close to the Edge. I was in awe of them for years. Edgar Winter Group had just released They Only Come Out at Night with the hit Frankenstein. I don’t remember much of the Eagles, they were up and coming at the time. Witchy Woman.

Shaboo: oh so many great shows. Great venue. Remember it well through a haze of screwdrivers.

Let's see... Non-sports first:

The Carpenters.
Discovering swing music.
TV sitcoms, a whole LOT of them; my fave from the era in question being Cheers.
Hating my elementary and intermediate schools.

Sports:

Watching my high school's team win a whole LOT of games, four straight league titles.

Secretariat, Seattle Slew, the great Affirmed-Alydar battles. I was big into hoss racin'. Went to Bay Area tracks a BUNCH. Also got to SoCal a few times, and was there when Spectacular Bid broke the world record for 10 furlongs that had stood since 1950.

Watching the Giants... While they had Mays, a major contender but always needed another arm and some depth. After Mays, NOT good.

Raider football... I was a season-ticket holder for three years, the last being when they won the 1977 Super Bowl.

Went to see the Stones in 1980 outside Chicago. (Rosemont?) Kids in front of me had a joint as big as an empty toilet paper roll. Of course, much longer. They fired this thing up during the opening act. Well, by the time Mick and gang hit the stage, the kids in front had all mellowed out. Fortunately, my wife and I were not victims of second-hand smoke.

Oh man, so many memories of the 70s - 80s. I'll start with 1978:
  • joined the Navy
  • smoked weed for the 1st time
  • saw my first concert Doobie Bros at Alpine Meadows in Wisconsin (see item 2)
  • Bucky F'ng Dent broke the heart of Red Sox nation (of which I am proud citizen)
  • Animal House

Other items from the 70s:
  • Sneaking under the left field fence at Muzzy Field in Bristol to watch Jim Rice and Fred Lynn
  • My 1st car - 1967 Pontiac Le Mans with a straight 6 and 3 on the tree
  • "I am not a crook"

.-.
This is the long version, 13:42 long. You can scroll past the opening if you're short on time

Is Vincent Price the original rapper?

I was playing pool in the barracks at Cherry Point, N.C. in 1955 when a friend came over and said, "Chuck, you gotta see this guy." I went over to the tv set and, for the first time, watched Elvis Presley singing "Shake, Rattle and Roll" and my life in music was changed forever.

Colt Park? Saw the Beach Boys there. The Turtles, too. And does anyone remember Phlorescent Leech & Eddie?
That was probably Dillon Stadium, where I saw the Rolling Stones in 1966.

Two of my favorite tv shows of all time are from those years: M*A*S*H and Soap. And, as previously mentioned, Stevie Nicks is the best (and Fleetwood Mac isn’t too bad either).

I remember debating which side of an album to listen to.
My girlfriend at the time, ('72-'73), was going to URI, (semi-easy drive from Storrs,) I went to visit and at a dorm room party, as the guest, was given the "honor" of picking which side of the debut Eagles album I wanted to hear, The "Peaceful Easy Feeling" side, or the "Take It Easy" side.
Feeling the "mellow vibe" of the room, went with "Peaceful Easy Feeling" as I recall.

Barney Miller, WKRP in Cincinnati, All in the Family

Yep, I was. We girls were also required to wear dorky rompers for gym class, color coded by class year.
