WNBA Opening Night Games.

I have no idea what she was thinking. She didn't like the no call, fine. She let the ref know about it and got the T, okay. Then it's time to shut up and move on to the next play, but she just couldn't do it, just kept yapping at the official. What was she hoping to accomplish?
She wanted to get ejected...

I feel for Tina Charles. Every team she goes to they are in an absolutely terrible situation. Phoenix is lucky they have her at least, but they are still not doing great. Skylar started great, but has been trending down since her fight with DT.
Diamond has been up and down, and Turner is way too passive to be a starter. DT is also a complete liability on defense.

Plus they have a new head coach who I feel is in over her head.

Oh no, Thomas with a shoulder issue again. I think it popped out when she pushed off against Wilson.

I've been saying the same thing. And her offense is too spotty to make up for it.

edit--one of the in studio commentators actually called her an underrated defender; the other commentator had a hard time containing herself after hearing that hot take

Good game. Aces 50-42 at the half. Game is being played at the pace LV prefers.

Courtney Williams is having a strong game with 11. Jonquel is 3-3, she should probably take more shots.

Wilson now has a double-double w/ 11 and 11. Young pacing everybody w/ 15. Plum has 13 and 5 assists.

Look like Thomas was upset about something. I mean, Wilson was just playing basketball and Thomas shoved Wilson. Can't be mad at Wilson.

I thought Alyssa Thomas had shoulder surgery finally? She still has that same horrible looking one handed shot put form.

Thought I heard during a game that she's opted not to get her labrums repaired. If I have the injury wrong, apologies as I suck at anatomy.

I think you have that correct. Why did she miss most of last season? I thought she got the issue corrected since she was going to be out for a long time anyway. But I might be misremembering, I do that sometimes.

Watching the last 2-3 Mercury games and they are a hot mess!

Newsflash, driving at Jonquel Jones isn't a great idea. Especially if you're a sub 6 footer.

I've been a bit critical of her at times, but I have to hand it to Wilson. She's gotten the better of the Sun, who have the best front court in the WNBA. 20 pts/13 reb at this point.

I think Hammon put 5 subs in a little early. Up 11 w/ 2 minutes left, weird stuff can happen. This group is hapless. Sun isn't really chipping away at it much, but still.

.-.
Ha, and now all the starters are back in at a minute left.

24/14 for Wilson, huge game. Young had 21. Plum 18 points/7 assists.

I don't know what it is, pretty much every game this year Kelsey either starts red hot and then goes ice cold, or starts cold and then heats up. Waiting for a game where she's hitting shots through out the game and drops 30 or 35 on somebody. Still she's in the top 5 in the league in scoring and assists, not bad.

LA keeps getting big leads early, then barely hanging on down the stretch. Big game for Sykes w/ 23 off the bench.

Dallas looked like they wanted to challenge to be one of the best teams in the league...then took a step or two backward.

It's not quite over yet, Sparks up 3 under 20 seconds left.

Katie Lou seems to be finding her shooting touch after a couple rough games to start out. But...1 rebound in 38 minutes? She's gotta be able to do more than that.

With Dallas down 2, Arike drives into the paint and get fouled with 0.8 seconds left.

Misses the first FT pretty badly. Then when she is supposed to miss on purpose to get a put back, fakes the FT to the basket which is a violation.

Then winds up and kicks the scorers desk for a T. (Got her money's worth)

Is this based on this game? The last few? They just split one of those ridiculous two-games away at Connecticut (which I consider a win for the away team) and almost worked their way back in this game, save for Arike thinking it was the last seconds of the Baylor-ND game again. (Ugh.)

A few things come to mind:
  • Coach Johnson just inserted Teaira McCowan into the starting lineup and LA blew the Wings out in the first quarter. Then, she puts in former starter Izzy Harrison, who goes for 20.
  • Satou Sabally made her first start and played a tad more than half the game. She's obviously on a minutes leash, unless Coach wants to play Thornton that much. Not bad for D, but "0" points won't help.
  • Outside of the first, I thought Dallas, with Harrison, Mabrey and others worked their way back. Interestingly, Dallas took the lead back when Ogunbowale was on the bench.
  • I know Coach Johnson likes the "five minute bursts," but sometimes I wonder if that cuts back on continuity and flow.

Wings go to Seattle, next, I believe. Think that might be an interesting barometer.

Forgive me if others have pointed this out, but Jasmine Lister seems to be among the Phoenix coaching staff. At least she or her doppleganger is on their bench.

On their website they have an assistant coach listed as TBA.
They have the most authentic Jasmine Lister doppleganger on their bench... her twin sister Cinnamon.

Pretty much a carbon copy of the 2019 title game ending

Nope. While out for her achilles she should've gotten it done, but alas :(
I'm totally with you on that one. She should have at least gotten one done. I've had a similar surgery to what she'd have done. It's no picnic, and the rehab is several months, but the shoulder surgery wouldn't interfere with her Achilles rehab, and vice-versa. I really don't get it.

Just imagine if she had two good arms. I just assumed it was something that could not be corrected. Didn't realize it was something she is neglecting to take care of.
