I feel like they are one more scoring guard and a backup big away from being a threat to every team but the Aces and Liberty. Clark, Bueckers, and Brink would all be welcome additions to the team.

On a side note, who do you all think will be the best 2 guard in next year's draft? It seems like slim pickings...Van Lith? Owusu? Donarski?
I don’t see Van Lith being any more effective than Dana Evans in the league — both are undersized shooting guards who can take over games but are often inefficient. Evans has been a contributor this year but that has more to do with the Sky’s injury absences IMO. That said, Kim is 3-for-3 transforming SGs into successful PGs and Hailey Van Lith is probably more acclaimed a player than any of Chloe Jackson, Te’a Cooper, or Alexis Morris ever were.

I really don’t know what to make of Owusu at this point. Her first two years at Maryland she looked like a surefire future lottery pick but the whole VT experience was puzzling beyond belief and has left a lot of people with questions about her. She’s going to struggle to get exposure this year playing on a likely losing team but if she’s productive she could work her way back into the draft conversation.

Donarski is an elite defender but I think she’s a less polished and efficient version of Berger, at least currently. I think she’ll be a great fit at UNC tho and could be a major contributor this year.

I personally think Rickea Jackson, a natural 3 in the W, would be an excellent fit for Indiana. I actually think Jackson is a far better prospect than Reese as of today.

More things Dallas.

I was totally blown away how many looks Mitchell had from three with nobody within ten feet of her in that game. At least be close enough to wave a hand near her face.

I guess it depends on what position that you want to assign to certain players, but I will throw in an early vote for Isobel Borlase. Jacy Sheldon would probably be the next highest consensus ranked shooting guard height player though.

Rickea Jackson could fit in nicely in Indiana, particularly if Clark/Bueckers aren't available (either because they're staying another year or they've already been drafted).

Nah. The topic of guard play has been an observation made by several posters. Unless you were hoping for a sunburn, you won't be catching much heat for this.
Yes, it was a semi-regular topic during the entire season: coffee, yogurt, what to do with that Fever backcourt. And Wings, while we're at it.

@HusfyFan1125 ...your two cents and some 50 spf will get you into this conversation, for sure. ;)

Mitchell is Mitchell and sometimes it's not a bad thing to have a person that can create her own shot, particularly given the other options here. The trouble is, as many of us have written, is the ball is not distributed to other options often and adroitly enough. For me, that's a Wheeler issue, who is a a tweener shoot-first/dribble too much point guard. Dunn signer her to a two-year contract (bidding against herself) before the draft brought Berger. Coach Sides knew her from Atlanta (as she did Wallace, but that's another story) and is using her. Yes, personally, I'd ease Berger into that role steadily, but Dunn is equally prone to good and "what?" moves (see Egbo, Queen).

As noted on this board, too, Lexie Hull and Wallace would make good back-up wings. They're just not going to give enough consistent firepower to pull defenses out from Boston and Smith. I swear I've seen Wheeler look into the corner and not deliver passes waay too many times when she sees them. Can't have that. Will watch that whole backcourt scenario off season.

I get what the person is saying with this clip but the whole game, the Wings players were sprinting back on defense for most of the game. Just a few clips showing key players not sprinting back does not paint the whole picture.

Spot-on. A lot of folks knock Mitchell for her efficiency but 44% is solid for an undersized 2-guard - for comparison, Arike has never shot better than 40% on the season in the league and Kelsey Plum made the All-W 1st Team last year shooting 46%.

The Fever’s issues have more to do with decision-making and hero ball than they do with shooting, at least to my eye.

All it takes is few lapses to lose a game. Especially when done by the so called leaders of the team.

Article on Bria Hartley

Article is in Spanish so I translated below. If you click on the article link there is a spot to click on photos of Bria.

One of the most exciting summer signings for CB Avenida, the American Bria Hartley , was the star this Tuesday with her official presentation to the media. The North American escort, with a French passport, was chosen number 7 in the 2014 WNBA draft and now, at the age of 30, joins the charro club to recover her place in the elite after overcoming a serious knee injury that has had her a year off the field.

President Jorge Recio has confirmed that «with Bria we close the cycle of official presentations for now. When we received the list of players with the possibility of bringing her, we made every effort to be able to bring her because of the quality of the player that she is and because of her career. She was the ideal player that we were missing, a player who creates and who has points. It cost us many conversations because also during the process she changed representatives and it was more complicated but then we signed her right away and we are proud that a player of her category is with us. She rounds out the squad without a doubt. She can make a difference for us ».
The North American previously expressed to the media, after thanking the president for his words of welcome, that “I am very excited to be here, to have this opportunity. After injuries it is difficult to come back and the first opportunity is important, for that I am very grateful. Questioned about her loss, Bria Hartley pointed out that «breaking the anterior cruciate now is better than doing it ten years ago, but I had the experience of having suffered this injury before. I already knew what I had to do to recover well and that was my goal, to return to 100%.
«Once you come out of an injury like this you have to look at the resources that a team has to be able to adapt to being on the track. For me it is easier to focus only on the court if the resources that the team has are good, "added the player.
About his scoring role for CB Avenida, Bria Hartley said that "it's something I've done before in my career and I've always known how to adapt to what each club I've been to needed. Sometimes more scorer than others ». The shooter's adaptation to the team is on the right track: "First I have seen an incredible city and as for the players and the team, everything has been very easy."
Bria Hartley has spoken with Americans who have passed through Salamanca such as the stars Tiffany Hayes and Kahleah Copper and they have told her that «I spoke with Tiffany, with whom I shared a dressing room at the University and I know that she is very critical and when I heard that she was very comfortable here I was very clear. If she says that she is fine... ».
His return to the track took place this past weekend with the two friendlies in the Ribadeo tournament . In them Bria Hartley felt “good. It is difficult and even more so with knee injuries to go out and play two games in a row. She hurts but the body feels good ».
The coach Pepe Vázquez pointed out about his new player that “for me as a coach it is a privilege to have Bria here. He is going to give us a lot because his quality is unquestionable. We have also discovered a very good person who is a leader in the group, affable and who puts the good of the group before his statistics. She is going from less to more, she played two good games and will be important at all levels, both as a player and because of her seniority, her leadership and to make her teammates better. She has also improved her shot at '3' and gives us versatility because she can also act at '1', at '2' and at '3'”.

It didn't look good when it happened. And she'd missed something like 2/3 of the season with plantar fasciitis. The Mystics really can't catch a break this season.

That’s a really good question. Most years it’s the same, but injuries have run rampant this season. Have Loyd or Stewie missed any time?

True but I have seen some of the all-time greats have a few lapses in games and those players were leaders of their teams. It happens.

I’m pretty sure it’s Lloyd
@From France
The names largely remain the same in terms of top scorers:
  • Jewell Loyd
  • Stewie
  • A'ja Wilson
  • Phee
  • Arike

Link for all that stat stuff here:

Chicago goes to Indianapolis and clobbers the Fever, 96-69, behind 25 from Kahleah Copper and 17 each from Courtney Williams and Marina Mabrey. With the Sparks losing at Connecticut, the two teams are tied for the 8th seed. Chicago has a home game against the Minnesota Lynx and then travels to Connecticut, while the Sparks go to NY to play the Liberty, then finish up in Seattle. If the Sky and Sparks are tied after the last game, Chicago gets the nod for a better head-to-head record. Stay tuned.
