Kirk Ferentz (just kidding)the aac sucks but at least the conference had a history of getting coaches bumped up to the P5. right now there is no NY6 carrot on the stick for someone taking this job.
right now i dont see why anyone would take the uconn job unless they're already tied to the NE football scene in someway, are an alumni or a desperate coach looking for a new chance (which i'd be very leary of).
i guess the one advantage uconn has over the non-aac G5 is probably the salary you can afford.

Get Hank Hughes back in the building as DC or DL. Knows how to make a defense into a top 25 group in the nation consistently. Not to mention he was here for UConn’s good days. He knows what UConn could be and knows how bad they’ve screwed things up. Played against bob diaco the year Diaco got hired while Hank was at UC and shutout UConn 41-0 and was UConn’s first shutout loss at home since the stadium was built. Got fired from Nebraska after having the 9th rush D in the country and had 7 DLineman from that team that eventually signed to an NFL team. 4 being draft picks and one being a super bowl champion with the Bucs. Has been at Penn and has had top numbers for TFL’s and Sacks. He’s proven and the best assistant that UConn could find for their team price range. Get an offensive head coach. Problems all the way back to the 2007-10 times were almost almost with the offense anyhow.
I agree for the most part... At this point, we need to win, show a pulse. We haven't yet...Has to be someone with HC experience and you need someone who just knows how to win. It doesn't matter what level you win at it will translate to bigger and bigger stages. That is because they have plans, organization, and structure, and have learned to adapt to what is around them.
I may be in the minority here but I don't want anyone with UConn ties. Forget the hot names coordinators. Take the guy that just knows how to get the best of the guys they have.
"There's a chance Randy would would won 3 out of the next 10 games" ≠ "Randy would would won 3 out of the next 10 games."You took one of three reasons I’ve listed that MIGHT warrant him an opportunity to interview for the job.
“Randy would won 3 out of the next 10 games” Are you sure about that? We gave up 38pts to Holy Cross and the trajectory with Edsall seemed to be zero wins, especially with hearing there was some issues in the locker room. At least with Randy gone the energy maybe different and Spanos may switch things up to win a couple of games but that’s one example of two other I have listed. It’s also a big deal if Spanos can keep this recruiting class coming in intact. Edsalls gone now, do you know how hard it is to keep a recruiting class together when the head coach who recruited them gets fired, yeah that’s not an easy task.
if Spanos can have these kids play competitively throughout the rest of the season and win a couple of games that’s different than what we’ve seen the first two, at that point I’m sure Dave will probably give Spanos an interview. I’m not saying he’s going to get the job, but that would be one hell of a job by Spanos if he can accomplish what I’ve just mentioned above.
that is asking too much. He should be considered seriously if they win three to four, and hired ASAP if they win about six.For me the only way Spanos gets the job is if he wins every one of the games left on the schedule (including Clemson). Anything short of that, bring in a whole new staff.
3 or 4 wins I just don't think cuts it to keep him on staff. Especially if Moorhead is willing to come here.that is asking too much. He should be considered seriously if they win three to four, and hired ASASP if they win about six.
Absolutely not. This program needs a do over. I am grateful he is taking over on an interim basis (it would give many pause I am sure) but he should not be considered as the next head coach.that is asking too much. Can we get Lashlee now? Would he come back here if the price is right? There are other incentives for him to come back here. Spanos could remain as DC, or DC and associate HC.Why didn’t we just hire Lashlee to be HC 5 years ago?
I just remember how there were great expectations for Diaco. He was coming from Notre Dame. He won the Broyles Award. Looked great on paper. Then, when he got here, things went down the drain, even though he had some highpoints. We don't want another Diaco.Absolutely not. This program needs a do over. Moorhead, Cignetti or Entz. Proven winners and teams that can score. Only options IMO. Maybe the guy from Coastal Carolina, but doubt he'll come here.I just remember how there were great expectations for Diaco. He was coming from Notre Dame. He won the Broyles Award. this ONLY an Offensive Coach is silly
The number ONE criteria for the UNIVERSITY OF CONNECTICUT HEAD COACH is ... they have to understand the tight architecture they have to travel to get the right recruits. Local kids need development. MA & NJ & NY & PA & QC ... a solid smattering of Florida and Georgia for speed. We are in Texas now. Redshirt and develop lines over a few years. AND learn what works in the Transfer market. A Quarterback coach that can really get a kid to stand tall and win. A FBS program in New England is not easy; nor Buffalo or this northern thing.
A HC candidate can be a Defensive Coordinator if he has been in solid programs and had responsibility. And can Coach kids.
Not out of the question but not likely. Same with morehead. They are national names that offensive players will come here to play for. Hey kid, I’ll make you famous. Portal too.Lashlee and Dave has some history, but I honestly believe he is not coming back. Lashlee is out of the question.

I somewhat disagree. Obviously, if there is a defensive minded coach that blows everyone away, you would have to hire him. That said, the problem with G5 schools is the lack of money for assistant coaches and good offensive coordinator hires are very difficult to make on the cheap. Any G5 OC that has demonstrated success will be grabbed quickly by a school that will pay more money and OCs are hard to replace. By having an offensive minded head coach, you are basically hiring the HC as the OC and paying him pretty well. In my opinion, decent defensive coordinators are much easier to find.this ONLY an Offensive Coach is silly

Totally agree the head coach needs experience. I’m not alluding to hire him as head coach. I think it’s a steal for the DL job though seeing as he’s been at UPenn the past couple seasons. The line hasn’t been the same since he left in 2013. DL used to be the best part of the team. Always seemed to get the most out of his guys while churning out many NFL DL at UConn. Gets his guys to play fast and physical. And STOPS THE RUN (which we need badly) Plus all the old players seemed to like Hank a lot. Had lots of players support around him when the head job came open in 2011. Plus was a solid recruiter. Would love him back in building coaching the DL again. Would give me some faith in the defenses ability in upcoming seasons.Has to be someone with HC experience and you need someone who just knows how to win. For God's sake, this. Whether your HC has an offensive or defensive background, the right coordinator on the other side of the ball can make up for it.
But this needs to be the right person for this job. Someone who wins because the university doesn't care how he does it in terms of who he is bringing in is not going to succeed here. Pretending we are WVU is not going to make us WVU.
AAC sucked as a fit for UConn. AAC sucks that ESPN gave them crappy production on their Watchespn app. The AAC itself is fine. Just a bad fit for UConn all around. What also hurts UConn is (even though UConn fans ignore it) the Huskies were always at the bottom of the AAC standings.
So if "the AAC sucks" then that doesn't make UConn look good at all.
Key non starter vs Non Key Starter. It was over right there and then.I just remember how there were great expectations for Diaco. He was coming from Notre Dame. He won the Broyles Award. That's because you think it's an Abbot & Costello routine.I know its not cool to criticize grammar, but I feel like there needs to be an exception for the title of such an important, pinned thread. Am I the only one whose brain goes crosswire reading this post title?
Not going to happen.I think they may be able to win UMass, Yale, Middle Tenn., and Wyoming.
Not going to happen.
