Week 1 preview (Nov. 9-14)

I was thinking of fans, but I guess either/or.
Plenty of Baylor fans didn't like the hire to begin with, or at least were very underwhelmed by it.

Head to the Baylor board tonight if you want to see some serious angst.

Another transfer I wasn't aware of. Jade Loville transferred from Boise State to Arizona State and tonight led Sun Devils with 18 points in the win over Northern Colorado. She's a great pickup for coach Turner-Thorne.

As good as they've been under Graves, Oregon hasn't really been noted for their defense. They've held Idaho St. to 29, almost midway thru Q4.

91-34 Oregon final. This is a veteran Idaho St. team who put a scare into Kentucky in the Tourney last year.

LSU wins by 42 in Mulkey's debut.

Gusters, whose services UConn was runner up for, had 19 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 blocks in 24 minutes.

Notre Dame won by 36 over Ohio. I understand Sam Brunelle is in much better shape this year,. Maybe it's paying off: she had 20 points on 8-10 shooting in just 17 minutes. Miles with 11 assists.

Big first game for Sonia Citron too: 13 points, 7 boards, 6 assists

She also picked up Mael Gilles from Rutgers as a Grad transfer. She'll help with the defense for sure with that team.

DePaul freshman Aneesah Morrow had a decent first game:

31 points on 13-16 from the field, 9 rebounds, 4 steals, and 3 blocks in 23 minutes.
Dont know this player but looked up her HS Bio. Pretty good. Listed as 6' 1"

High School: Led Simeon to a 35-2 record and the girls basketball program’s first state championship (Class 3A) in 2020… averaged 28.4 points, 14.3 rebounds, 4.6 assists and nearly three steals a game last season… All-State First Team selection by the Associated Press, Champaign News-Gazette and the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA)… after eclipsing the 1,000-point career mark as a junior, MaxPreps ranked her as the No. 1 recruit in the state and No. 20 in the nation… Prospects Nation ranked her at No. 45… MaxPreps/WBCA Player of the Week… finished with 41 points, 13 rebounds and six assists against Maine South… racked up 38 points and 25 rebounds versus Morgan Park… had 32 points, 15 rebounds, five steals and five blocks vs. Butler… put up 31 points and 19 rebounds against Evanston… led Wolverines to Public League title in 2018.

Too bad the Princeton-Villanova game is on Flohoops tonight as I would definitely be interested in that game. Carla vs. Denise Dillon.
I was really impressed with how well Dillon did last year as I was highly skeptical and she proved me wrong, I am glad to say.

Does anyone know if the Flohoops subscription is monthly as buying it now would get me this game and the Battle 4 Atlantis games.

You can purchase a monthly or annual subscription.

Someone on the main board posted a link to attain a discounted subscription price through UConn:

Morrow edges out Kyndall Hunter of Texas as the most impressive debut game by a freshman.

DePaul alum Allie Quigley was honored prior to the game:

Good to know. How was Reese defensively?
Surprised I didn’t get an alert for this, but she was decent. A block & a steal but dominate on the boards.

Boston will dominate her easily so Collins/Bibby might guard her.

In perusing the box scores, I see a transfer name I wasn't aware of. Janai Crooms, who played two years at Ohio State and one year at Michigan State, is now at Providence. She's a native of Cranston, RI.

Certainly a good pickup for the Friars.
Didn’t even know she transferred. She had more hype when she was at Ohio St.

I just warmed up for the Princeton-Villanova game by watching some of the DePaul-TSU game. Morrow was a force from the opening tip. She's a big-body 6'1" who runs the court well, has nice touch around the hoop, and shoots the 3 well. She addresses a severe frontcourt deficiency for DePaul that was their Achilles heel last year.

Apparently, Indiana transfer Jorie Allen is still "banged up" from the preseason and so was held out of this game.

Maybe it's just morbid curiosity. I'm watching Syracuse vs. Monmouth. Brutal. 2-0 nearly 4 minutes in.

I kinda can't believe Syracuse managed to get anyone to transfer in, but they have a bunch of them.

Mostly I want to see if Juliana Walker, a Fr. from Tacoma, WA, gets any PT. She would've broken Van Lith's state record for career points if there would've been a high school season in 20-21.

The ONLY returning player of note for Syracuse, Priscilla Williams, isn't playing.

Butler, Southern Illinois and Bucknell are all hanging around against ranked teams--Indiana, Tennessee and Ohio St.

Creighton vs. Drake is an intriguing early season matchup. Drake up 13 midway thru Q2.

Early foul trouble for Key and Tenn in a tight one vs So Illinois -- up 2 late in 1st half.
Vols 0-8 from 3.

Horston not playing tonight (mild injury).
