Certainly one of the worst defeats during Dawn's tenure. Still annoyed about that game.

As for Chloe, as long as her academic suspension is not of the Kaydra Duckett variety, she/we should be alright. :p;)
I was at that game and we fell for the fool's gold of the 2/3 zone and took way too many outside shots.

Wow, that’s a name I haven’t heard in years. I remember being so excited when she signed on. Was a dang good player in high school. Never materialized at the college level unfortunately.

Coppin State was surprisingly game. Most of these low major teams are either intimidated from the tip or overwhelmed by a big run, but they fought the whole way. Couple of chances for it to get to 50+, and they always made a run to get it back to high 20s/low 30s. The little guard and undersized 5 with 3 point range are going to be a handful against peer programs.

I think Dauda is having issues reprogramming her brain to follow the South Carolina way of doing things. So I hypothesize that it is all a mental thing for her and she will be a great player for us when it all clicks. I've been wondering if her time at Arkansas left her unprepared for normal systems of play. I think she is having to relearn the fundamentals because Neighbor's system doesn't train front court players in the same way as typical systems (post mentality, defense, rebounding, etc.).
Yes she said in one of her lives that she didn’t know half of the things Dawn run in her system. She also hinted at Neighbors not being a good coach.

Whether or not neighbors is a good coach does not need to be discussed but it is a fact that he coached offense first and defense was an afterthought. That is not Dawn’s way

Nevertheless, Dauda was a good shot blocker at Arkansas but there is more to defense than shot blocking But ,?that is a good foundation for Dawn to build on. She also needs to learn offensive positioning in Dawn’s system to maximize offensive rebounding.

I’m not making Neighbors coaching the topic of discussion here. Besides, are there rules that I may have overlooked? My main thing is Dauda is learning a lot being under Dawn. I saw no harm in that or what you’re trying to get at…

Neighbors can't get the same recruits that Dawn gets. He runs a system that works for the players he gets. Those quick dribbling guards often give other teams real problems.

(I do note by the way that Calipari suddenly getting tôp recruits to ARK.)

Just noted the Trojans are playing Santa Clara. We now have USC, U$C and SCU. :p

yes, I would think there will be fewer players off the bench playing big minutes so we’ll get an understanding of what a true rotation will be.
Dawn has been experimenting with lineups a good bit against the cream puffs and even against NC sTate with Chloe sitting it out and Ashlynn having missed Fall official practices. We’ll see what happens but I’m not optimistic about the trip to UCLA.

I'm in the same boat. I'm not feeling that good about this game. We have too much inexperience at the 5 and this game isn't positioned well for us to work our those kinks before we play. I think we'll see a rotation of Feagin, Watkins, and Walker matched up against Betts.

I’m thinking Watkins on Gardiner again. Dauda , Tac and Walker rotate on Betts. Chloe and Joyce float. This might be the game where we see the 3-.big lineup especially if Tessa isn’t ready to backup at the three.

Has UCLA run a 3-big lineup this year?

I'm more optimistic about UCLA than most because, from my observations, they are having guard/backcourt role identity and execution issues. Kiki Rice is coming off an injury and still looks shaky. Londynn Jones got moved to the bench in their last game--where she shot 10% from the field (not a typo). Yes, Betts is a handful. But if the guards aren't able to get her the ball in her spots, then what?

I'm not worried about SC v UCLA. I looked at boxscore the other day and saw the bench was Watkins, Edwards, Dauda, Johnson and Fulwiley.

That might be a top 5 team by itself.

SC has plenty of bigs to clog up Betts.

UCLA not really in sync yet, although Gardiner is off to a tremendous start. Her ability to shoot 3 is a nice offset to Betts.

I am happy to see a bigtime game.
