I’ve seen some dumb programming decisions before, but trying to cram a potential 5 set sport into a window too small for 4 sets might take the cake.

And it’s two teams 11-11 in conference in a sport nobody watches. Grape job, ESPN.

Lack of redshirting in wbb is confounding. Kitts could even potentially make more with 2 more years of college than 1 + potential pro rookie. If you don’t want the 5th year, you don’t have to use it, but don’t waste a season for 47 seconds of mop up against Auburn.

Seems like very poor understanding of delayed rewards and failure of adults to get it across. Another sport, but remember when we lost a guy who became a great “senior” football player who chose to play in the mayonnaise bowl and lose his RS.

Watkins played today - 6 pts on 3-7 shooting with 6 boards, 2 steals and 1 block in 19 minutes. Gamecocks struggled again defensively especially early and late in the game. Had pushed the lead to 20 pts in the 3rd but then the Wolfpack stormed back to pull within 7 in the 4th, and it was a rock fight from then on. Gamecocks win their 40th straight 71-57 over NC STate: Paopao led the way with 23 pts on 10-16 shooting, and Fulwiley added 18 pts on 8-14 shooting.

Lots of turnovers and sloppy play all around, but I guess have to give a pass to freshman Joyce Edwards experiencing her first top 25 opponent (top 10 at that) in WCBB, as she led the team with 8 turnovers to go with her 8 pts and 5 rebounds......

Did Tessa step on Champ’s tail this morning?

Seems like she hardly played. I wasn’t able to watch but following game tracker, she seemed AWOL. Hope she didn’t get hurt.

Not the prettiest game but much better display than vs Michigan. Pao and Fulwiley carried the team.

Fulwiley in the postgame interview says, “we win together, we—-well we don’t lose together” and then finishes her statement lol. She’s right though, 40-0 in her collegiate career thus far. Sania Feagin is 97-0 in games she’s played in.

SC should be in good shape if Pao and Fulwiley lead the way most nights. Watkins will round into form, I thought she was still very impactful. For a game played (mostly) without Tessa and Kitts, the end result is a good one. But this team has to be much more careful about blowing leads. They often played with fire last year and were lucky never to be burnt. I will say that some of Dawn’s lineup choices can be puzzling in those moments.

Watching today, I realized that as vaunted as the #1 Raven/Rivers/Feagin/Hall recruiting class was, none of them ever developed into stars. Still important pieces for their teams but I thought for sure we’d see greater individual success from that group.

The others in the top 5 in that class were Fudd and Ducharme, both of whom have had careers derailed by injuries. Going deeper, 4 other recruits 6-10 (Moore, Miles, Key, and Harmon) all suffered ACL injuries too.

Deberry and Poffenbarrger weren’t Top 10 but still, they were part of the two “great” recruiting classes.

It's just aggressiveness plus some incredible confidence that her teammates have in her apparently.

Not too worried about it as this will certainly improve.

I suppose we should just be happy with a comfortable win over a program as good as NC State, but it was sloppy.

Fulwiley with a nice game and Pao continues to show off.

I'm guessing they didn't love Tessa's defense - not sure why Wes isn't see her after first.

The rotations are going to be strange this year I think.

Tessa tweeked her ankle/knee.

Dawn is not worried about losing a game early. She is prepping for the post season by putting people in different situations. She’s trying to see what some of these girls can do in crunch time. There’s a method to her madness.

What's an academic policy issue? Is she failing a class or two?

Why bother making a statement if it's unintelligible.

State is one of our 9 losses in the 2020s
NC State was the last home court loss if I am not mistaken -- the game with the historically low score back in the 2020-2021 season when the freshies were sophomores. Since then, all of our losses were at away or neutral sites.

...I just realized that Kamilla and everyone on the current roster has never lost a home game.

Huge shout-out to Paopao on her defense against NC State. She looks much improved on that side of the ball and the most well-rounded player on the team.

Sadly I only watched the 2nd-4th quarters since YouTube TV didn't record the first. I typically start a game 30-45 minutes after it starts so that I can speed through commercials and catch up with the live game in the 4th but that plan fails when they move the game to another channel because of run-over. Someone post a link if there is a full game stream out there. I'll be forever grateful!

The beginning of the game was relegated to the ESPN app. I switched over to the app but kept getting a "This Game Has Not Started Yet", message each time I clicked on the thumbnail and missed the first 3 minutes of game time when the app finally connected. Here's a posting of the game. Their video starts @ 6:52 of Q1.
At the time of my posting, the game has yet to be archived on the ESPN app.

Thoughts after the NCSU game:

Tessa Johnson, in a sit down interview after last season concluded, stated that she has an ankle that is ”floppy”. I think it is something she just has to manage, and in games where she is not needed the HC uses caution whenever she “flops” it.

Kitts supposedly missed a class. It happens. No worries here and nothing to look at.

PaoPao reshaped her body this offseason, like Boston did 2 years ago and Raven did last year. Tahini looks primed for a nice season.

Hall does a lot of things well. CDS rewards her seniors with playing time, but if you ere putting players on the court based purely on talent and ability to impact the game both Fulwiley and T. Johnson deserve more minutes per game than Hall, and both can play her position. Hall is often labeled the best defender on the team, but that isn’t actually the case. She is good all around at many things, but prob not great at any one thing tbh.

No mention/sight of Dauda yesterday. I’m in the dark on this one, hopefully not an injury situation. I read Tac was riding a stationary bike near the team bench during the game. I’m not certain what that means if anything.

Again, Raven will probably never have a reliable jump shot, I’m about over hoping that it will develop. She is the best floor general and ball handler on the team however and her defense is top notch.

Missed “a” class? Missing 1 single class and benched for an entire game is pretty strict. I respect Dawn quite a bit if that’s all it was.

As a State fan I wish Watkins would have been held out another game for her off the court troubles! (I kid! I don’t even know the details - and genuinely hope she grows as a person and matured and learns from whatever happened).

SC is just bigger, faster and longer. So many weapons. So much depth. It’s truly another level when State lines up against yall. We’ve played UConn, Colorado, Texas, Tennessee, Stanford, Notre Dame, Louisville, Duke and the list goes on - never does State appear to have inferior athletes. When we play SC that changes everything.

Mostly I look at girls like Maddison Hayes - she’s an integral part of the team. Shoots it at a high clip. Rebounds. Super efficient player. She’s completely nullified against SC. Doesn’t have the height, length or athleticism to do what she normally does against a Ashlyn Watkins type.

Azaiah James, Zoe Brooks, Saniya Rivers and Zam Jones were the only ones who physically and athletically belonged on the floor against yall. And Rivers I’m convinced had a mental block against yall. Both times we played you guys she is a shell of herself. Looks like she lacks confidence. 1-7 with 4 turnovers yesterday. Just not who she is usually. There is something there that is holding her back against her former team IMO. James didn’t play to her ability either. It’s a credit to the Cocks defense and intensity.

State also prides itself on rebounding. We always outrebound opponents. Led the ACC last year I believe. 40-25 Cocks on the glass yesterday. Again, just a completely different animal against SC

Congrats on the win, good luck for the remainder of the year. Honestly hope we don’t meet again.
