$25 million for McGuirk. On the plus side, it's on campus. That's about it.

After years of ‘deferred maintenance,’ UMass AD Ryan Bamford announces multimillion-dollar investment in football
UMass athletic director Ryan Bamford says the school will invest millions of dollars into their football program.www.boston.com
"The stadium renovation will be completed in three phases, Bamford said, starting with upgrades to the fan experience before the 2026 season. The second and third phases will be be structural and aesthetic upgrades to be completed by 2028."
I have no idea how their AD still has a job"Since hiring coach Joe Harasymiak last summer, the Minutemen have been focused on bringing in players from the transfer portal with a “win now” mentality.
But the strategy hasn’t paid off, and Bamford noted a need to bring balance bringing in transfer players while retaining malleable talent.
“I let Joe manage the Xs and Os and what he’s doing right now for the next nine games,” Bamford said. “But my staff, we’re keenly focused on how do we put our arms around this program to give Joe and his staff everything they need to be successful?”'
Imagine giving your coach a vote of confidence just 3 games into their tenure lmao
hopefully Coach Harasymiak is getting his TPS reports done on time."Since hiring coach Joe Harasymiak last summer, the Minutemen have been focused on bringing in players from the transfer portal with a “win now” mentality.

The week 6 thread morphed into the UMass thread.
UMass should be able to make it work in the MAC but it needs to invest much more heavily in the program. In the MAC, UMass is the 2nd largest school in enrollment, top endowment, and the only school in New England which should be a selling point. I'm sure there are many MAC football players from the Northeast who would choose UMass due to location and education.
UMass needs to scrap McGuirk and build a new 25k-30k expandable football stadium. McGuirk is the smallest MAC stadium and simply not worth renovating. They probably want to have some level of success before building but they need a new stadium ASAP. Mass is the 16th largest state by population so don't get cheap. It can't cost much to level McGuirk so just start from scratch, all brand new. Or at least level one side, rebuild, and then do the other.

I get that and I know many UMass fans are not happy about the football program. UMass Football played 4 seasons in the MAC and then 9 seasons as an independent. It finally left the A-10 so that football could rejoin the MAC so that is a commitment. It needs to go ALL-IN in order to compete. Fans and students would become much more excited about a team competing for a MAC Championship and being able to compete against bcu. UMass plays at Kent State and if it wins, I'll be interested to see how many show up for the home game against Buffalo. No one is gonna pay to build a new stadium for an epically bad team with little fan/student interest. A team that is perpetually on the cusp of being disbanded.
Got it. That puts UMass Amherst in 4th endowment behind Buffalo, Ohio U, and Miami U. They've got Buffalo at home on a Saturday and then 2 more home games on a Tue and Wed night. At least the students can walk to the games from their dorm rooms.Actually, UMass Amherst does not have a top endowment as the "listed" endowment includes all of the UMass campuses (Amherst, Dartmouth, Lowell, and Boston) as well as the medical school in Worcester. Probably ~$600 million of the endowment is tied to UMass Amherst.
McGuirk's location is ideal and if UMass had some success, they could improve it. BTW, if UMass sold out McGuirk, they would be in the top 4 in MAC attendance. A big problem for UMass attendance will be the November weeknight MACtion games.
and the new renovations are at least partially privately funded. A state the size of Mass should be able to properly fund a Division I football program or settle for FCS. Pick a lane and drive appropriately. I haven't seen any updates on the renovations yet.like many places, if they win games, people will show interest. Better chance of being successful in the MAC than previous strategy.Folks around here think they spend a lot on the program. They really don’t.
Not a gambling man, but I’d bet your house few if any umess students walk to their Tues 11/25 game from dorms already closed for Thanksgiving. They've got Buffalo at home on a Saturday and then 2 more home games on a Tue and Wed night. I looked into it. classes are finished on Tuesday and dorms close Wednesday morning. That sounds like party time to me.Not a gambling man, but I’d bet your house few if any umess students walk to their Tues 11/25 game from dorms already closed for Thanksgiving.

UMass averaged 3k fans last year playing A10 opponents.UMass is getting ROLLED today by Kent State who went 0-12 last year. As noted earlier in this thread their last two home games are at night during the week and they will likely have no wins. Family and friends will be at those games - actually not even friends. Hoops starts soon for them and it’s going to be like 2k or less at Mullins for horrendous MAC opponents. What a disaster
