UConn's Big East Rival Will Be ............

@nadav

All the players in the 1st group were All-Americans other than Billy Eason who I threw in there because I loved him. He did a tour in the USCG out of HS then went to PC.

Bruce Soup Campbell, Wilbur Cross
Kris Dunn, New London
Bill Eason, St. Thomas More
Johnny Egan, Weaver
Ryan Gomes, Wilby

Others
Donnie Lewis, Cromwell
Kendrick Moore, Hartford
Marvin Saddler, St. Joseph's
Rob Sanders, St. Thomas More

didn’t he start out at Florida?
Yep, I think you are right, either way he was expected to go to Clemson with Barnes but didn't. Buckner was a stud as well.

PC has the worst. Tim Duncan wanted to come and the President at the time who was not a sports fan said Barnes could not offer him a scholarship even though he had kids transferring out until they actually left the school. Barnes got angry left to go to Clemson and Jason Williams and Greg Buckner were released from their LOI. They would have joined Croshere, Eric Williams and Troy Brown. All six of these guys played in the NBA.

We could have been a contender.
Oh yes, I knew about Duncan and Williams being Providence bound. I remember hearing Jason Williams came up for a weekend at PC and got caught with weed in the dorm. No idea if it's true but I don't think he ever would've lasted at Providence, he hated school too much and loved weed too much. It's insane the school wouldn't allow Barnes to make room for Duncan. That ended it for Duncan and Barnes at PC and set you guys back so much as a program despite making that run in '97.

It should have been Camby, Ray Allen, and Duncan all playing right next to each other in New England.

Shows you how important leadership is. One positive from the episode is the board learned how important sports were to the school. This priest (I say this with pure contempt) is the one that ditched an excellent baseball program as well for Title IX even though donors stepped up to fund another women's sport. He has the art center on campus named after him. Father Friggin Smith, ruined the athletics there for over a decade and he was why we couldn't keep coaches. PC now of course has had 15 years of Father Shanley who is as good as we could have ever gotten. His father's firm designed the BE logo and he is a PC graduate. He has restored respect and I love the man.

Quite a list. Amazing.

Donnie Lewis a legend from my hometown. He played on our Class S (smallest schools) squads with Al Weston, they won a bit.

Yep. It seems like the last conference realignment really changed things for the Catholic schools, I know it did with Providence and Seton Hall. They now know how important basketball is to the lifeblood of the school and have focused and spent the money necessary to make them good again, where for a long time things had grown stagnant and the will wasn't there. It certainly helps that all the additions take basketball so seriously.

I know you know this but you are going to love this league.

It's been my favorite league without UConn in it. I love everything about it, stoked for next season.
You just happen to live in the one city where you can get great seats for a road game as well. Plus another one 1 1/2 hours north. I bet you are stoked.

I wanted to add that I’m very surprised Hurley is pursuing Nolley. Dude is a head case.

Oh my God a "head case". Have you watched your own team? You have 2-3 of them. Duke's a head case, Reeves a head case. That's the norm now, coaches need to get the best players then figure out how to work through that.

Duke and Reeves head cases? You have lost it, or are just throwing your crap against the wall. Those kids bust their all game long every game and in the gym and the classroom as well. Absolute superb teammates, students and citizens.

Nolley became an absolute ball hog jacking up shots from everywhere later last year and refuses to play defense. Go see what tech fans have to say about his departure. It doesn’t matter though because Hurley will not put up with any of that crap so he will have to mature.

Eason was very underrated, excellent player. Would compare him to Mike McKay a few years later who played for us with Corny and Alexinas. Athletic and solid in most aspects of the game. Donnie Lewis was really good too played against him in City Leagues and such he was older but still really damn good.

Your bias is making you crazy. I've seen Dukes in multiple games throwing shots up consistently without hesitation and helping the team go south. Yes ball hog! That's a head case. And while I could be wrong on Reeves he's not even close to the player he was as a freshman to me that's a head case. But shame on me for not thinking only Nolley is a head case! LOL

Sharp teeth though, this was the year before we beat you at home in your NC year and Calhouns rant. 2003 UConn senior night at Gampel.

Nice win. How was that tourney run for you guys in 2003? Like most others. Super Bowl regular season game for one team was the usual scene. Not saying you guys weren't good and Nova's teams who won a couple of times vs our #1's but we had 2-3 losses all year and went to the Elite 8 or won NCs. Just saying.....

Oh yeah, I'll definitely be at the DePaul and Marquette games. Butler is a little far but certainly doable and I've always wanted to watch a game at Hinkle Fieldhouse.

You have lost your damn mind. Not one PC fan feels that way about either, not a single one. Duke gives 100% on defense from the tip to the final buzzer.

But you may be right, maybe Nolley actually likes to play defense and he wasn’t a problem for that team and I just don’t comprehend basketball and neither do the tech fans.

Geez of course not you're a PC fan on a UConn board right? LOL. I don't watch them all but saw it with my own eyes. But by all means stick with your story. Geez you haven't changed remember where you are and we allow you here! Your guys a d**k and doesn't allow us there which is fine with me because I could care less about being there. Actually why are you here?

I will slink back to the pool. Sorry to bust up your delusions.

No delusions here my friend but I think it's time for the slink. You're getting a little too comfy and Deepster's not happy!

We beat Nova both years they won the NC’s and took them to overtime in the BET championship game when they went onto beat everyone in the NCAA by 20. The Providence you seem to think still exists was over right after the latest split. 1 game behind Xavier for the 2nd best overall BE record since the inception. There was a time when beating you guys was what you describe. That time is history as is your past.
Thank you for reminding us........again.

You couldn’t be more wrong about David Duke. Ball hog? Most games he is a reluctant shooter, even though percentage wise he was PC’s best perimeter shooter. PC fans wish he would shoot more instead of deferring to Diallo.

We got enough Friar fans named Jeff around here...

Naw, let him stay. His insecurity is confirmation that his mid-major program knows the big dawgs are on their way back.
Why else would he be here trying to explain that things are gonna be different, this time around. Little brothers can be so annoying.

I enjoy fans of other teams here. For the most part they engage in good conversation. And I am sure they know their players better than we do.

Nova is showing little brother love to UConn, so maybe UConn can do the same for Prov.

Share the Little Brother love.
See, that’s not how it works. Last time I checked its UConn 4 - Nova 3 in National Champions, and we’re even at 2 NCs for the last decade, whereas PC has never even sniffed a chip, maybe a couple times.
First rule of a champion is to act like you been there before, and a big part of that is knowing w t fkc your talking about.
Nova’s had a nice run, but when the Alphas of UConn, Cuse, Louisville, old school Georgetown, Pitt, were running things, you guys were on the 2nd tier. Only after those programs left, and all credit to Jay Wright and what he’s built, did Nova move up to elite status. Those are facts, you can look it up! Lol
