Was it you hoping he could nail a couple threes? Expecting a guy's first game back on limited minutes to produce a three point shooting demonstration seemed like a stretch. I am glad he got his one - those were three meaningful points.
Mashburn is something else man, says Duke hasn't had a tournament game where they put 2 halves together and says it will happen against UConn, then says UConn should be nervous. He's had a bug up his ass about UConn all year on Turner's coverage, Hurley even chided him for it after the Villanova win.
Foster obviously will play but I wonder if he will be more limited on Sunday.
The two advantages we have are that our best players are experienced seniors while their best is a Freshman. Also Hurley can coach circles around Scheyer. We’re still going to have to play well to win because Duke is a very good team. We saw what happened last year when Duke had 2 of the best freshman to ever play college bball on the same team. Get them under some game pressure under 5
Mins to go on a big stage and they could get rattled.
not a popularity contest, it's a chat and nobody here is going to say something that will ring with flowers and bakery scents 100% of the time. if you change it will be revealing and somewhat disappointing......................................................................Reasonable feedback - noted. When I'm framing matchups in a case like this against a favored team, it feels a bit more natural to talk about what we have to do to stunt their advantages. But I hear what you're saying.
Patrick NgongbaWho is on Reed in this scenario?
Also that team had Castle and Clingan. This team does not.Not sure why posters are referencing Purdue/Edey and replicating that gameplan, Boozer is a completely different player than Edey and is utilized differently. He's not a "just dump it into the post" guy.
Someone told him to put on a shirt with buttons or a jacketScrew Mashburn, there’s something else here for a story. Did we not recruit his kid hard enough or what? I mean his disrespect is well noted and I’m no longer a fan of his. And he certainly should be more respectful in the way he organizes his apparel on the desk, looks foolish!😂
And a freshman at thatAnd then they said that UConn relies so heavily on Reed and Karaban. I hate to tell them that Duke relies more heavily on 1 player. If the Huskies can slow down Boozer I like our chances.
RatioI had a dream before the tournament began. In my dream I saw us facing Duke. Duke will be a challenge and at points it will look bleak. We will hit big shots down the stretch and the game will be up for grabs. Will Boozer be too much to handle? Will Karaban outshine them all? Is Duke just too good? Stay tuned.
Is that the Neo-Na*i David Duke or another one??In 1999, I collected a bunch of online articles and kept them in one document. Since March 29, 2026 is the same day as March 29, 1999, I thought I'd put everyone's prediction from the St Pete Times that day:
Pre-Final Predictions
Taken from the St. Petersburg Times
Legendary Celtics coach Red Auerbach: Duke's got to win it. I've never seen a Final Four that had such a prohibitive favorite. We all know that anything can happen in one ballgame -- but Duke's the 1-7 favorite to win the whole thing. That's unbelievable.
* * *
Storrs, Conn., town manager Martin Berliner: Oh, God, do I have to tell you the truth? Go, Huskies.
* * *
David Duke: Duke, of course.
* * *
Orlando Magic guard Darrell Armstrong: I knew Duke and Connecticut were the two strongest teams. I look for Duke to take it. I don't see anybody stopping that Mack truck.
* * *
Nancy Lieberman Cline, 1996 Hall of Fame Inductee, GM and coach of the WNBA Detroit Shock: I think Duke will win it. Anything can happen, but they (Duke) are very talent-deep and Coach K is one of the all-time great coaches. I'd be very surprised if they lost.
* * *
CBS NFL analyst Randy Cross: I'm a go-to-form guy. I love Duke. They're the Denver Broncos, the Green Bay Packers. There is not even a close No. 2.
* * *
CBS college football analyst Craig James: Duke's second team would win the tournament, so why wouldn't their first?
* * *
Sports artist LeRoy Neiman: Duke, because Duke is Duke. That's the only way I can put it. Is there a better explanation?
* * *
Wagner coach Dereck Whittenberg, whose shot Lorenzo Charles grabbed and put in at the buzzer in N.C. State's upset of Houston in 1983: Duke. What's their weakness? They can play half court. They can play up-tempo. They can defend you. They can play zone. You can play zone against them and they can shoot over you, they can go inside. They have no weakness. The times they haven't played well, they still managed to score 80 or so points. If you don't play that well and don't shoot that well and still score 80, it's hard to lose in college basketball.
We call that The Zach Edey Plan ™️i'd say the game plan would be to let boozer get his, and run the rest off the line. have to crash the boards for that strat though.
You're right. But does anyone ever respect what these guys say, or put any stock in it? Id actually say we do the opposite.Mashburn is something else man, says Duke hasn't had a tournament game where they put 2 halves together and says it will happen against UConn, then says UConn should be nervous. He's had a bug up his ass about UConn all year on Turner's coverage, Hurley even chided him for it after the Villanova win.
This is beautiful!When Okafor hit the free throws to seal our game against Duke in 2004, my daughter was two weeks old and I rubbed her head for good luck.
Tomorrow, she’ll be at Ted’s as a senior watching us face them again. Have no fear. My kid’s got this one.
So Brown is on Karaban, Ngongba is on Reed, and Boozer is guarding…. Mullins? Not sure we’re seeing those three on the court together.Patrick Ngongba
Clark, Kenny, and Charles all had MSU beating us last night. F the haters!Let him keep hating while UConn keeps winning. ---- him!
They probably won't be on the floor together.So Brown is on Karaban, Ngongba is on Reed, and Boozer is guarding…. Mullins? Not sure we’re seeing those three on the court together.
Thank you for doing the math for him.So Brown is on Karaban, Ngongba is on Reed, and Boozer is guarding…. Mullins? Not sure we’re seeing those three on the court together.
If Boozer is on Reed you can stop all further matchups as they won't matter.They probably won't be on the floor together.
They'll probably start with:
Boozer/Reed
Uconn need to play to their ceiling for 35 minutes
If Boozer is on Reed you can stop all further matchups as they won't matter.
If he's feeling good and can contribute ~10-15 mins tomorrow, any chance we see Stewart and get some time guarding Boozer? We utilized Karaban and Stewart mostly against Koa Peat earlier this year. Different players of course, but some similarities.
I bought a Toyota Venza new in 2009 and it has 30 k original miles todayYou've got me beat. I bought a new car March 15, 2024. 5,000 miles in two years, and my insurance has gone up (zero points, ever).
Mashburn was good with us before. He isn’t a believer anymore because he was in studio for our Creighton, Marquette and SJU losses. He saw us go 7-4 down the stretch (mostly against unranked teams). When you see that, you struggle thinking that team has any shot to win the national championship.You're right. But does anyone ever respect what these guys say, or put any stock in it? Id actually say we do the opposite.
Mashburn doesnt watch Uconn. Jet and Chuck and those guys dont watch enough college ball to be truly knowlesgeable. I know y'all hate Goodman but he watches a ton of college ball. That's his only job. And we complain about Fanta and Donnie but they know st johns and uconn 500×s better than the CBS crew.
I am expecting to see Stew on Boozer at some point.
