UConn vs Duke (Elite 8)

I had a dream before the tournament began. In my dream I saw us facing Duke. Duke will be a challenge and at points it will look bleak. We will hit big shots down the stretch and the game will be up for grabs. Will Boozer be too much to handle? Will Karaban outshine them all? Is Duke just too good? Stay tuned.

I'm not saying that Brown isn't a good defender. He clearly is. So was Kohler, who was ranked very high on defense as well. I do think Brown's DPOY is more a reward for a Duke team that went 17-1 in the conference and won the conference by two games. I'm not convinced that such an award should got to someone who plays so few minutes.

He did a great job against St. John's. But he's largely doing what he does in 20 minutes a game. Can he keep it up chasing players around screens all game? And what happens when he sits? He also can't stretch the floor at all (16% from 3) and is largely an offensive liability.
He's a defensive specialist - certainly not trying to convince anyone he's plus on the O.

As for the other feedback - if I took the role of pretending everything was perfect and we were a shoe in to win every game, what would we even talk about here? Go look at my posts on this upcoming game and tell me if any of it is about how UConn is losing vs exploring matchup possibilities.

He couldn’t against St. John’s. One of the reasons they were forced to go zone

It's the way you frame everything. For a supposed UConn fan it's a bizarre route to take. There are plenty of posters here who post reasonable analysis ahead of all of our games. HeyAdrien posts scouting reports for every game. Auror has the best analysis of our future opponents before pretty much every game, with video evidence.

But nobody questions if they're UConn fans because of how their posts are framed. You'd be met a lot more positively if you approached it from a standpoint of here's how Karaban can take advantage of Boozer guarding him on the perimeter. But instead you frame it as Boozer is an impossible matchup for Karaban. Everyone here knows how good Cam Boozer is, but as UConn fans it's pretty fun to think about and discuss all the ways we can beat Duke and not all the ways we can lose to them

If I had no job or life I'd go back and find all the posters who have called him out for exactly this over the past year or two. Always with evidence given, not someone asking for only sunshine and positivity. I'd guess at least 25 have done so, including some of the most level-headed around. At some point it becomes a "you" problem, and that point was a long time ago

Reasonable feedback - noted. When I'm framing matchups in a case like this against a favored team, it feels a bit more natural to talk about what we have to do to stunt their advantages. But I hear what you're saying.

Did the game end? Who won?

Koehler couldn’t so MSU had to go small and put Carr on him instead. Don’t tell me Koehler isn’t athletic he’s a better ball player than brown

We also don’t have a Clingan equivalent that’s a perfect defensive matchup and can guard him one on one
Brown is MUCH more athletic and longer than Kohler. Kohler is a good player, but compared to Brown he's much more stiff and less quick. Brown is one of the 10 best defensive players in the country.

Brown is a better version of Whaley.

Ok, we have a pretty good chance !

I believe Luke Murray was doing the scout for Duke.

I'm going with a chance (51-49) it's UConn in a blowout (and a chance it doesn't end well).

That's definitely someone who has a high deductible on their car insurance.
Nope, sold my car 1.5 years ago, mostly b/c of Florida insurance rates, and the last year I had it only drove 200 miles ... nothing but walking, golf cart shuttles, Ubers and other car services for me now (do you hear me Tiger Woods?)

You've got me beat. I bought a new car March 15, 2024. 5,000 miles in two years, and my insurance has gone up (zero points, ever).

Brown is a really good player. I don't think they're anywhere near the NCAA title game without him last year. That being said, the guy I'm most worried about is Evans. We have to keep him in check as if he goes off, we're cooked. I'm assuming Boozer will get his and just hope our bigs don't get into foul trouble esp. Tarris.

My insurance doubled from living in Virginia, to Florida since 2021, for the same coverage ... took me a while to realize what a waste it was, and that includes getting over the ego part of always having a car my entire life ... it has been one of the best decisions of my life

I have several family members, and former coworkers who retired to Florida.

From what I'm told souped up golf carts are all the rage.

After your brilliant analysis that Stewart couldn't contribute against Michigan State, I'm hanging on every word.

Was it you hoping he could nail a couple threes? Expecting a guy's first game back on limited minutes to produce a three point shooting demonstration seemed like a stretch. I am glad he got his one - those were three meaningful points.

While the portal is mostly a poop show, one of my favorite transfer moves are when experienced mid-major players commit to teams for the chance to be a practice/reserve guy on a National Championship winning team.

With that being said, Duke and UConn combine for five players who previously had experience at other mid-majors.

Assuming if you had two of each player to make a roster of ten, how good and/or how many wins can this team win in a mid-major conference of your choice, like the MAAC or the Ivy?

Lineup:

PG - 6'1 190 grad transfer Alec Millender - 8.2p, 3.7a, 43.5 3P% at Indy

SG - 6'6 220 senior Jack Scott - 2p, 2.2r, 11 mpg at Princeton

SF - 6'6 220 grad transfer Cameron Sheffield - 7.6p, 6.1r, 1.3a, 37.3 3P% at Rice

PF - 6'8 212 grad transfer Dwayne Koroma - 11.5p, 7.2r, 2.0a, 38.5 3P% at Le Moyne

C - 6'11 240 senior Ifeanyi Ufochukwu - 3.3 mpg at Rice

Remember, assume each player is a facsimile of themselves, so you can start both Millenders or both Koromas, or bench both of the same player.

I know but you don’t have to give ruff any fuel

Tarris staying out of foul trouble is critical. Cam will abuse Reibe.
