UConn vs. Buffalo Bulls (Saturday 9/28/24 @ Noon @Rentschler Field). Game on CBSSN. Audio on Varsity Network/FoxSports 97.9 FM

Hello Husky Nation,
It's been a year since my last post.
In terms of conference Realignment not much has changed.
But I now have new blood attending UConn. What is exciting to me is - they grew on UConn football not UConn hoops. Love to attend games. Why do I mention this??? Well I don't care if UConn is a hoops first school or not. What I do care about is that the group of fans I use to attend games with - have passed on a tradition. For me - this is huge. I recall going to a UConn home game in Storrs before they moved up and they were playing against Temple. I was shouting out at the top of my lungs - Temple SUX. Yes we lost the game and I was still shouting it. ...and I was hooked although I never attended UConn myself - hence the moniker Stray_Dog.

...and I have taken my own kids to games. We may not be playing the WV's, Pitts, or more well known schools. But I do feel something new about UConn Football. A fanbase that needs to wake-up, I believe UConn football is on the rise not because of a win against Buffalo or against FAU or a close loss to Duke, but because I feel the rebuilding - I feel something I have not felt since 2001 - UConn is building something great and I don't want to look back and be that guy who says - I should have gotten on the Husky Sled and supported this team when they needed me and - joining the band wagon and hearing other fans saying we would have gotten here sooner - had you fed our Husky Sled. So support the team you love - start family and friend traditions centered around UConn football, donate what you can and spread your story! And with all this - GREAT WIN!!! Keep it going UCONN FOOTBALL OWNS THE DAY!

-> Coach Jim Mora didn’t have an update on Evers immediately after the game, but with a second head injury in five weeks he will likely miss some time. Cam Chadwick, a defensive back, also suffered a head injury on Saturday.

“We have to be careful,” Mora said of Evers’ tendency to run. “Sometimes a quarterback like that that has some speed, they rely on their speed too much and try to escape the pocket out and around rather than up and out. We’ll work on that and get him more comfortable and more confident.” <-

Looking through past videos it doesnt look like Lembo ever takes post game interviews... is that normal?

I went looking last night - couldn’t even find post-game quotes on the Bull site.

-> Head coach Jim Mora referred to Brock’s 3-3-5 scheme as “unorthodox” on Saturday. He noted before the year that it could confuse offenses who don’t see it often, that opponents wouldn’t know who was coming – or where they would be coming from – to get to the quarterback.

“They’re starting to understand the nuances of it. It can be complex, it looks complex to an opponent, but our coaches have done a really good job of teaching it and more than anything our players are just embracing it,” Mora said. <-

->Linebackers Tui Faumuina-Brown and Langston Hardy – who combined to create a pick-six in Week Three at Duke – continued to prove the strength of their tag team as they twisted past the Buffalo line and combined for three sacks of quarterback CJ Ogbonna. Defensive linemen Jelani Stafford, Dal’Mont Gourdine and Jack Barton had a field day with the Bulls as they contributed to UConn’s six tackles for loss, eight pass breakups and eight quarterback hurries.

“All the guys who rotate in (at linebacker), everybody who’s in there, we all have the same mindset. All 11 to the ball, and we want to have knock-back tackles, that was a big thing for this week,” Hardy said after the game. “Jayden (McDonald), he’s flying around out there, Tui, Julien (Simon), Amir (Renwick), all of them, Donovan (Branch), really just that’s our motto as a linebacking corps and we wanted to get after them today.” <-

-> UConn football’s new defensive coordinator said before the year that his scheme relies on aggression and intensity, and it was clear during the Huskies’ 47-3 win over Buffalo Saturday that the unit is a reflection of its coordinator.

Constantly on his toes, Brock led the celebration after the Huskies’ stuffed a run on fourth-and-inches in the first quarter and continued pumping his fists as his defense played out almost exactly how he imagined it could before the season began. Showing improvement week-to-week, UConn overwhelmed Buffalo at the line of scrimmage and held the Bulls under 200 yards (198) without allowing a touchdown. <-
