Getting beat by Colorado did not help the cause. Big 12 people against UConn will just dig in even more.

"Hey guys, you know, Jim Mora has them Huskies lookin' pretty darn good this year."

"Yeah, but that basketball team! No way!"

You joke. Basketball takes a dive and they'll print the excuses but that's not a now problem

That being said, uconn got what they deserved for cream puff scheduling. I was on one rating website and uconn had the 362nd strength of schedule going into that game. I get you want home revenue that's shameful and men's basketball got what they deserved.

Now get better and cream Gonzaga for me. Seeing the alma mater get whipped by almost 70 is awful

I never understand this argument. We played Colorado and lost. Should we have scheduled Colorado earlier? I would understand the point if we played, say, UNC and lost a close game.

But we just lost to Colorado. We played Memphis last night, and that didn't help us against Colorado.

I learned more about this team over the last 2 games than in the first 4. 35 point wins over cupcakes tells you nothing. It's about seeing how your team responds and where the cracks in the foundation are.
Why would you think playing Memphis 1 night earlier would help today? I assume you're making some kind of point, but it's a silly thought process.

I really don't think the cupcake schedule is the problem...if we played better teams in the first four...it just means we would have lost earlier and more quickly learned that our bigs consistently get in foul trouble, we struggle when karaban is 1-8 from the field, and our smaller backcourt cannot guard or rebound like the last two years

I'm not sure there would be an advantage to know that earlier since I don't think there any easy solutions that could have been in place for Maui

We know it now and will strive to 'solve' it for March

If you play at least 1 decent team before the Maui tournament that allows your players to get first-hand experience at playing against more size, speed and physicality. It prepares you better for the Maui tourney so you don't look like a staggering drunk.

I saw the writing on the wall several weeks ago. When Mahaney didn’t pan out right away, Karaban didn’t play like the 1st team AA people thought he would, and Samson Johnson was sitting several spots down the bench, myself and many others thought there might be some surprises. The cupcake schedule hasn’t helped either. The good news I see is next year’s freshman class, with Reibe, Mullins, and Adams, arriving along with Furphy. Hurley hasn’t helped matters either with his assistants constantly having to chain him to the bench. I pray that McNeeley stays one more year but that’s about as likely as UConn getting a Big 12 invite. You can start taking your shots now.

It's a largely new team with the weight of two national championships in a row. Nobody gives a about November games anyways. Panic in February if we are struggling in the Big East.

And realignment decisions are not based on one game played in November in Hawaii in a gym that holds 500 people...

Perception matters. Does one or two games make a difference? Probably not. The issue for UConn over that past few years is perception. The debate about blue blood status, lack of consistency year in and year out, are issues that have been mentioned in "grading" UConn and in conference realignment. So your statement may indeed ring true.

if we struggle with the Big East this year then we really aren't as good as advertised given this is looking like a down year for the conference in general. The good news is even if this happens, there's always football to look forward to in the Fall.

Like the perception of many many referees not liking or treating UConn like the great program it is, that perception is not just a perception, it’s real. Hurley has to ride this period in his, let’s hope, long tenure at UConn. Geno, I’m sure has some advice for him, about being tossed many many many times during his early years, with Chris Daily having to restrain him from going after many refs who had it in for him.

Yeah, but for UConn Maui is a means to the end. And it ends the first week of April. Winning Maui is nice for perception and hype in November.

Quick questions. Who won Maui last year? Who won the 2024 championship?
Who won Maui in 2022? Who won the 2023 championship?
