Why is Morton not showing up anywhere? Do we risk losing him to the draft as well?
Before the 2023 season started, I think a lot of people had Morton pegged as the most likely UConn player to picked in the upcoming draft due to his excellent 2022 season, and due to his combination of speed and power. Of course, as the 2023 season progressed, with Morton not matching up with his previous season, he spent a goodly amount of time in the bottom portion of the lineup. Still, often players are often taken in the MLB draft on the basis of their potential, so we will what happens with Morton.
Most UConn players show up in summer ball playing in the 3 main New England summer leagues. Because of this it is easy to scan the Futures League, the Cape Cod League, and the NECBL for UConn players as you will find a bunch of them in those leagues. Plus the player search functions are fairly easy to use in those leagues.
I believe there are over 80 collegiate summer leagues scattered all over the country, don't know the exact number, but there are a lot of them. UConn players do show up in some of these other leagues from time to time, but it requires quite a bit of searching since they don't show up in the same amounts as they do in the 3 main New England summer leagues. It is quite possible that Morton and other players may be in one of those other leagues, but good luck trying to find them, it isn't all that easy unless you want to search individual rosters in all those leagues.
I have noticed in the past that players who are eligible for the MLB draft and who have a good chance of being picked often don't show up in the summer leagues, at least right away. Sometimes they will appear in summer leagues after the MLB draft is over.
