UConn MHOC 2024-25

Everyone loves a winner:

That would be hilarious. And Nelson would probably start a petition to drop hockey. LOL. This team is really fun to watch. To me, Seemed like that BU game even though they lost with the #3 goalie got them thinking they can indeed compete on this level.

All is looking up but these numbers will not hold unless we finish 1 or 2 in HE. Top 4 probably locks up a bid. Anything worse and it's bubble time.

Based on games played well have the 5th or 6th best record in HE since Lowell and PC have games in hand. A winning weekend vs PC will be a huge boost to the post season hopes. A negative result will put us back a number of spots.

Way too many games left to start counting chickens.

That is no doubt correct. Our goal is to win games. Although it isn’t actually true that we need to finish top 4 in hockey East. UMass finished 5th last year but got in while Providence was 4th and did not. Because of the way PWR works, you can finish lower in your league yet beat out someone above you for a bid. I won’t say it happens all the time but it happens enough. I know UMass beat PC in the HEA tournament but still, and UMass got not just blown out of the building but out of the state by BC in the HEA tourney.

One shift at a time, as the saying goes.

But for someone who remembers well the D-3 days under the Saarinen Roof, it is heady stuff.

Only things that really matter the rest of the season are getting comfortable in the top pairwise and getting a bye in the HE tournament.

Not just a bye………top four. Fifth place earns a first round bye, but is on the road in round two against # four.

I.e, just win. There is no other way to get comfortable in the Pairwise top four.

Going into the NC$$'s as a low regional seed is not what this fan base will be satisfied with, however. And to get a 1 or 2, that will require a lot of work. One shift at a time.

We have 8 games left in the Hockey East and currently sit 4th. UMass Lowell is 4 points behind us with two games in hand, as of now they are our threat to bump us from the 4 seed. As long as we keep playing the way we are, we will finish top 4 and may even sneak into 3 seed depending on teams above us stubbing their toe.

Top 3: BC, BU, Maine

I would say that 6 of our final 8 games we are favorites, even if just by a hair.

Providence (H), Umass Amherst (H), Umass Lowell (H), Northeastern (H/A), Vermont (A)

Games where we may be underdogs (although we are home for both, so maybe tossup?) - Maine, BU.

Bottom line is this. Don't take your foot off the glass, keep playing every shift with intensity and business will be taken care of itself in HE and in Pairwise. Just don't change a thing.

A win today at a packed XL against Providence? Would be a great start for getting this stretch going.

As Jerry York once said, “February is when we play Big Boy hockey.”
He followed a similar career path as Len Ceglarksi from Clarkson to BC, but with an intermediate stop at Bowling Green for an NCAA Championship, I believe.
