Also, if Maine fans need to be reminded, I’m pretty sure Cav went 2-0-1 against Barr this year with a team picked to finish 8th in HE. 2 of the 3 games were in Orono.

Kudos to Coach Cav. He proved a lot of us wrong, myself included who thought he was overpaid and that the program would have been better off with a change at the top. This has been a terrific season and the team is super fun to watch, and it ain’t over yet!

Perhaps the best thing about sports is the total unpredictability of it all…

That contract they gave him was still an overpayment, his market couldn't have been higher at that moment coming off a HEA championship OT game, new on campus arena coming later that season & highest ranked recruit coming to campus that fall. UConn could not have afforded to lose him to BC at that moment.

UConn took a lot of points from Maine this year.

-> Spetz and Hudson Schandor committed to returning to UConn for their fifth seasons, taking charge, being the agents of change, and once the roster was settled, establishing and cementing those winning habits. This March, the Huskies find themselves on the doorstep of great things, new territory for the program. They finished the regular season on a roll, hosted a conference quarterfinal and defeated Providence last week. <-

-> But getting this far, UConn hockey’s image and trajectory is changed. They are no longer newcomers or pretenders to big-time college hockey, also-rans in a power conference. Making the NCAA’s 16-team tournament will become a baseline, the championship the goal, and a realistic goal. UConn hockey is a national player now, no going back.

“This tournament was not too big a stage for us, ” Cavanaugh said. “For a team that just got here for the first time, you would have never known it by the way we played. The thing with Tung is he is an older freshman. He is 21 and will turn 22 in November
