I'm not saying they won't take a QB from the portal, but I think 4 scholarship QBs (with 1 or 2 walkon QBs) is enough in the portal era. Why? You don't have to develop QBs on your roster for the next season as you can go into the portal and find an experienced QB.
I disagree on not needing to develop QBs. I think develop in terms of young frosh to next level is a thing of the past. However, I think there is something to be said about bringing in a QB through the portal with the intent of having them possibly start but definitely learn the system and by year two be all systems go. JF is done after this year and we still don't know what we have with Evers. We might not know if JF stays healthy, God willing, and stays effective. So I think you can still bring in a QB from the portal to compete but let them know they might need to acclimate to the offense.

I don't think we'll see a portal QB that will slot right in as a Day one starter. But I can see us grab one that could compete and maybe start next year.

The economics of paying QBs recruiting change the thinking. Remember, you pay QB1 a certain amount, QB2 gets less, and then there is little for QB3 and QB4 gets almost nothing. So, you can bring in a freshman QB and develop him, but that's about it.

I think for QBs the idea of sticking around is a bit hollow knowing a guy in the portal that had a bit of playing time and more pedigree might shiv you out of a spot just as it's your turn to get a chance is going to be annoying. Especially if you are confident in your talents

I think we are a good 10 years before a new stable pattern creates itself.

Unless there is regulation, the only way stability will happen is if UConn forces their way into the top ranks of P4. And even then what we knew as stability will probably not materialize.

You think I'm talking about uconn?

Looks like Kirksey went back in the portal.
Appears so…

A little concerned we’ve had zero success developing WRs. I know Bell definitely got better here but we haven’t had any high school recruits get built. Still haven’t seen Harper get good reps. Saw Hicks nice but he plays DB now.
Keelan Marion, Cam Ross, Justin Joly, Aaron Turner,...

Duke has an unlimited fund.
The Ivy's will too now that they will participate in the FCS playoffs. They basically can pay players whatever and not even make a dent in their endowment.

I will be shocked if the Ivy's use their endowments to pay athletes in any meaningful way. Those institutions are very focused on their academic mission and have been very smart about staying away from the quagmire that is big-time athletics.

It is not unusual for head coaches to occupy endowed chairs, although I have no specific knowledge of Ivy Schools doing this. I think it would be highly unusual given their philosophical views of the place of athletics in the institution, for them to use unrestricted endowments to pay athletes. And actually, now that I think about it, since the Ivies did not opt in to the settlement, that would be breaking NCAA rules as well.

Yes but those are individually endowed. It probably gets counted into the endowment but those specific endowments have been earmarked for that purpose.

I do not doubt if the ivies want to get into the pay game a simple "all call" to donors will get it done. It remains to be seen if that's the posture they want.

Well, they cannot use institutional funds unless they opt in and they have decided to stay out.

Edsall recruit, Edsall recruit, tight end, Edsall recruit....

I could’ve been more clear, but I meant for this staff.
Since the portal, recruiting has changed. 4 and 5 star recruits are generally going to go to a P4 school at first and if they transfer, UConn has a shot at recruiting them. In the case of WRs, UConn is able to recruit through the portal high 3* and 4* WRs which UConn can't recruit out of high school. Guys like Bell, Porter, and Sheffield.

The same thinking applies to QBs. The top QBs are going to go to P4 schools and if they don't win the starting job, then UConn has a chance to recruit them in the go into the portal.
