That’s 4. 3 Maine. 1 here. Unless 1 of the 3 at Maine doesn’t count. All the guys declaring for the NFL draft and he hasn’t (yet). Hmmm?
All the bad qb play we’ve had over the years and you’re all set on a guy that passes for 20 tds vs 4 ints in like… 8 games? The Boneyard never fails to Boneyard.Sorry, but put me in the column of wishing him well and thanking him for what he did for us this season but ready for the next step at QB. I feel like we found our ceiling with Joe and that was beating mid level G5 schools. We need someone who can take this team to the next progression of our development, beating some lower tier P4 teams, like Wake. I don't feel Joe gives us that ability. TBH, Evers doesn't either and I'd rather have Joe, but still....
Dude had the best statistical season since Dan O and people aren't happy lol. Are there better QBs out there? Yeah. Are we definitely going to end up with QB play better than what Joe provided last year? No.All the bad qb play we’ve had over the years and you’re all set on a guy that passes for 20 tds vs 4 ints in like… 8 games? The Boneyard never fails to Boneyard.
In two starts vs P5 teams he was 1-1 and the loss was on the road vs a very good Syracuse team. He showed you his ceiling is more than just beating G5 teams. I’m not saying that I wouldn’t rather see better QB play, but come on!
Really don’t get this. Is Joe ever going to be great? No. He doesn’t have the physical tools to be great. But can someone who would be playing with a team, and an OC, for a second year (he played less than a game and a half in ‘23 — it’s amazing at times how people try to judge him for that year) show material improvement? Of course they can.Sorry, but put me in the column of wishing him well and thanking him for what he did for us this season but ready for the next step at QB. Even if you discount the 5 TDs vs Merrimack, he'd be third, behind Dan and Pindell, who threw 19 in 2018 (albeit with 13 INTs and 4 of his TDs were vs D2 URI). Joe also had 2nd best single season passer rating (152.9), behind only Shirreffs (153.6) in 2017.I threw up the list of FBS QB who threw for 20 TDs in season for UConn. Orlovsky and Joe is the list. Are there better QBs? Yeah, but they've traditionally not played here.
I just want 3 things in a QB: 1) wins more games than losses (preferably at a > 2:1 ratio), 2) plays well and has more TDs than INTs (preferably at a > 3:1 ratio), 3) wants to be here. Joe checks all those boxes. Really doesn't matter to me who it, as long as those 3 criteria are met, we'll be fine. We're not getting a Dillon Gabriel type of QB, but we should be able to get a good one given what other G5/6 teams are able to field.Even if you discount the 5 TDs vs Merrimack, he'd be third, behind Dan and Pindell, who threw 19 in 2018 (albeit with 13 INTs and 4 of his TDs were vs D2 URI). Joe also had 2nd best single season passer rating (152.9), behind only Shirrefs (153.6) in 2017.
We dont discount any other QBs who played here numbers against FCS schools, so we shouldn't even need to play that game. I thought it was stupid to knock his game against Merrimack then and I still feel that way now.Even if you discount the 5 TDs vs Merrimack, he'd be third, behind Dan and Pindell, who threw 19 in 2018 (albeit with 13 INTs and 4 of his TDs were vs D2 URI). IF Joe has a year left it actually (you can argue it if you like) helps us. One thing he did have that was HUGE for us was a chemistry with returning WR Bell. How many times have we seen back to back years of consistency between QB and Wideout during our FBS years???? Honestly, we probably gotta go back to Orlovsky years. Or am I wrong?Sorry, but put me in the column of wishing him well and thanking him for what he did for us this season but ready for the next step at QB. If Cole was going to beat him next season, don't you think he would have taken more than 3 snaps (or whatever it was) last season? So unless Evers develops poise and the ability to quickly go thru progressions and make the right decisions, it will almost certainly be JF who starts. For JF the game has slowed down. Not so much for Evers yet, although it could do so next season.I said it somewhere else:
My dream is that Joe has eligibility(appears that he does) and realizes Cole Welliver is going to beat him and Nick out for the job, and is deciding if he wants to be the veteran safety valve on the bench mentoring a RS frosh and future star Cole Welliver.
yep..." IF " Joe has a year left
RSTut, the operative word in my statement was dream. I was certainly hoping, as were many, that we would see Cole in the the max 4 games and maintain redshirt status. I really don't know what the 3 snaps means or doesn't mean. Just hopeful that he is the athlete that he was recruited to be.If Cole was going to beat him next season, don't you think he would have taken more than 3 snaps (or whatever it was) last season? I think Cole knows he has a future at UConn. But my sense is that he is still developing and is confident that he will be the man at the right time.
yep...
"His preparation mentally to what will be his final college game, maybe his last football game, won't change."
He played during the 2020 Covid year which I guess wasn't supposed to count. People don't know if that's really the case or not. If 2020 didn't count, he has another year. If 2020 did count, he's out of eligibility.OK…how do we not know the solid answer to this? This whole season I (and I believe all of us) were under the impression this was his final year. We must have had that impression for a reason.
Do we really think he has another year? Anyway…if he does it’s nothing but a good thing. But it seems strange we didn’t know this.
