Top 4th, Xavier with a leadoff double and a walk. That is it for S. Quigley. Devin Kirby takes the mound.

Kirby starts off with a 3-0 count. Chris Jones says it looks like he has recurring numbness in his hand again, so he is coming out of the game due to injury. Braden Quinn takes the mound.

With our offense, unless it gets out of hand, gotta empty the pen to win this game.

Top 4th, Quinn throws a ball to walk the first batter he faces, loading the bases with no out. Next batter grounds into a double play which brings in a run, 5-1 Xavier. Quinn hits the next batter to put runners on the corners. An error on a grounder to Quinn brings in another run, 6-1 Xavier going to the bottom of the inning.

Quite frankly, I believe UConn is going to need lesser used pitchers such as Quinn to step up to go far in the post season tournaments, especially in the NCAA.
 
Yes, absolutely. Which seems improbable, but you never know.

To be clear, I totally get why Penders is doing this. Kind of sad about it at the moment but it’s necessary; he knows what he’s doing.

Top 5th, Xavier with a 1 out double. A 2 out 2 run homer makes the score 8-2 Xavier.

Not going to see mainstays out of the bullpen tonight unless UConn scores a bunch of runs to get this thing close or tied.
 
Top 6th, Quinn gets a ground out for the first out of the inning, then comes out of the game. Joe Carrea takes the mound.

Carrea gives up a walk, but gets his 2 outs to get out of the inning. 8-2 Xavier.

Still don’t even has as many runs as they scored in the 1st inning. Can’t win every game by coming back.

Carrea was a walk on in UConn fall ball 2 years in a row before making the spring roster this season.

Carrea is a true walk on, I don't believe he was recruited by the coaching staff.
 
Bottom 7th, UConn offense goes down in order with 3 fly outs, 8-2 Xavier.
 
I thought Carrea looked pretty decent the few opportunities he got this year. If I recall right, I think he got stretched a game into like his 3rd or 4th inning and that's where he gave up all his runs against.
 
Top 8th, a 2 out RBI double brings in an unearned run that had reached base on a Padilla error, 9-2 Xavier.

Bosacker comes out of the game with 2 outs and 2 runners on base in the 8th inning after throwing 128 pitches.

Bottom 8th, UConn offense leaves 2 runners on base. 9-2 Xavier.
