Bottom 8th, Smith with a leadoff single. Freeberger with a 1 out single, Smith was running on the play, and he scores to tie the game at 4, Freeberger advances to 2B on the throw. Huber with an infield single to put runners on the corners with 1 out. Studley follows with a 1 out infield single that brings in a run, 5-4 UConn. Pitching change.

Not unbelievable, they have been doing stuff like this for a good chunk of the season.
Have to figure Justin Willis will be on the mound for the top of the 9th after this inning ends.
John Fanta said UConn has 5 wins when down to their last batter so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised lol

Top 9th, Fogell still on the mound, probably to face the lefty leadoff hitter. Fogell gets the first out on a long fly out. Fogell comes out of the game, Willis comes in to face the righty hitters coming up. Fogell threw 46 pitches.
And in this situation, UConn wasn't yet at their last batter.

Willis threw 12 pitches, so he should be available tomorrow if needed. Would think that Fogell will not be available tomorrow, but the bullpen is in good shape after the first game.

Great win. You can't argue that this team doesn't have guts. Whether it has enough starting pitching, however, ....
That having been said, while 51/3 and 3 ER is not great, the innings Coe gave us keeping us in the game is key moving forward. Our most consistent starter goes tomorrow, with Kirby and Afthim fresh and Willis certainly ready to go another inning. With this team's lack of starting pitching, while I will never give up on them playing from the winner's bracket is key. Prevents having to play 5 games, and if you play a 4th from the winners bracket it means your opponent is on its fifth. So get through tomorrow, and even if Quigs only gives you, say 4, as long as you win and get Friday off, pitching will be fine.

It should be noted that Studley made an unbelievable play on the fly ball. Play of the game imo. We could easily be in extras right now if that drops for a double or triple, which for most RFs it likely would.
