UConn Wins #BIGEASTbase Regular-Season Title; Bracket Set For Memorial Day Weekend At Prasco Park

The seeds have been set for the 2023 BIG EAST Baseball Championship Presented by JEEP, which will take place Wednesday, May 24 through Saturday, May 27 in Mason, Ohio at Prasco Park.

The 2023 BIG EAST Baseball Championship Presented by JEEP will be co-hosted by Xavier University at Prasco Park in nearby Mason, Ohio. It is the fifth time the championship has been hosted at Prasco Park. The tournament will be held May 24-27, 2023. The top four teams in the BIG EAST baseball standings qualify for the tournament, which is a double-elimination format.

Game 1: No. 1 seed Connecticut vs. No. 4 seed Georgetown - 2:30 p.m. ET
Game 2: No. 2 seed Xavier vs. No. 3 seed Seton Hall - 6:30 p.m.

Game 3: Game 1 Loser vs Game 2 Loser - 2:30 p.m. (Elimination Game)
Game 4: Game 1 Winner vs. Game 2 Winner - 6:30 p.m.

Surprised Quigley isn't getting game 1, but at least we're going to shake things up. Coe's batting average against has been outstanding all year. If he finds the strike zone, we're going to ask why this change wasn't made long ago. If he can't -- well, how much worse can our starting pitching be.

I was not expecting Stephen Quigley to start on Wednesday, considering he threw around 90 pitches on Friday night. Nothing unusual to move a starting pitcher up a day for a Tournament, but not 2 days.

Doesn't matter if your best starting pitcher pitches on Wednesday or Thursday of this Tournament, since your team needs to win on both those days to avoid playing a game on Friday in the losers bracket. Win on Wednesday and Thursday, your next game is on Saturday.

Aside from avoiding the losers bracket, not playing on Friday gives the pitching staff a day off, a day to rest arms for the game(s) on Saturday.

Today's starting pitcher Garrett Coe has gone 4+ innings in 2 games this season. Based on this, if he is able to go 4+ innings today, I would be quite pleased with that. We'll see what happens. He has certainly improved his performances as the season progressed.
